Vol.1 Chapter-24

End of the Exams.

As the exam continued, one by one, the teams dropped, and so, it was left with the final two teams.

Lady Catherine's team and Alfred Marti's.

"Congratulations to both teams for reaching this far!" Teacher Loupe says while clapping his hands in a exaggerated way.

"Hmph, it was only natural." Lady Catherine says, carrying herself with her usual grace and elegance.

Man, why are you so pretty Lady Catherine!?

"As the final two teams, the principal and I wanted to make things more interesting." Teacher Loupe says, now with the principal by his side.

"I suggested it to be held in a flat stage with no obstacles. Only the skill of each team will be seen." The principal says.

I see so that's what they're going with... But in actuality, they lost the possessed student, didn't they? So they are trying to lessen the obstacles to see clearly if he tries to attack us again. Although, nothing like that happened before.

"It would make no difference." Lady Catherine says.

"It is fine with us too." Alfred says as his team finally arrives onto the stage.

"Yo, Aya, are you ready? We won't be taking it easy on you." Alfred says, maybe trying to banter.

"Hmmm, we'll see, I won't be holding back either." Though that's a lie, I HAVE to hold back, because even with Teacher Loupe's barrier... Bones do break.

"Nice competitiveness from both teams!"

"Leon, let's win this!" Sophia said, pumping her fists into the air. Making the prince di the same.

"Yeah!!" They both raise their arms then end with a high five.

...Sorry to rain on both of your parades, but both of you have barely done anything useful, I don't even remember the prince casting a single spell.

"Then, are both teams ready?" Teacher Loupe looks at both teams, waiting for a confirmation.

"I am always ready." Lady Catherine said, her words filled with confidence.

"Yes, we are ready." Alfred says, looking confident also. Maybe he has a plan?

Seeing both teams, Teacher Loupe raises his hand and fires a fireball into the sky then shouts...

"Begin!"

Alfred's team wasted no time in attacking, they all started chanting their spells and they pointed all their magic onto one person, Sophia.

Alfred's team consisted mainly of fire magic users, they had one wind magic user and one water magic user. But those two really don't amount to much when attacking, so I think those two are going to focus on support.

I honestly couldn't care less to defend Sophia, but the prince had other intentions.

Seeing the volley of fireballs heading towards Sophia, the prince finally had something to show for himself.

"Haah!!" The prince summoned a giant wall made out of water that blocked all of the attacks, protecting Sophia.

"Kyaah!!" Sophia screamed loudly.

"Sophia, are you okay!?" The prince said rushing to Sophia's side.

"Leon... Thank you for protecting me." Sophia said, as she held onto the prince's hand.

The fireballs that hit the waterwall evaporated instantly leaving us all with poor vision.

"Fire again!" Alfred said, not stopping to let us take a break. This time, instead of aiming for Sophia, they aimed for Lady Catherine.

"Enough!" Lady Catherine shouted aloud as she summoned her own spears of flame and clashed with the fireballs, extinguishing the onslaught of fireballs just by herself.

"As expected of Lady Catherine!"

"Hmph! This much is normal! Such unrefined flames will never touch me!" Lady Catherine smiles as she summoned more of her spears and launched it towards Alfred's team.

Even with the Wind user and Water user trying to divert and extinguish Lady Catherine's flame, it was still too much for them to handle.

"Don't forget about me! Light of the world, heed my call! Spear of judgement!" Sophia also started to attack with her spears of light also making trouble for them to handle, but they were still holding up, they were stuck on the defensive now rather than on the offensive.

The bright spears of flames that Lady Catherine made, shined even brighter than Sophia's spears.

I couldn't help but think to myself that her flames were exceptionally beautiful.

My heart aches everytime I remember what happens if I don't do anything to protect this...

Putting my glove on I stood right next to Lady Catherine.

"This will not be as pretty as your flames, Lady Catherine, forgive me for that."

Taking a metal ball from my pouch, I enhanced my hand with magic. I got into form and threw it. It made a snap as it left my hand.

"!" Alfred probably wasn't expecting this as he was preoccupied with defending.

"Gah!" My pellet hit him right in his hand, making him reflexively hold it. Of course it didn't do any real damage, but it probably made his hand shake.

"Oh n-!" He got hit directly with Lady Catherine's spear.

I looked at Lady Catherine when she did it, she clenched her fist when she did, celebrating.

Alfred was now eliminated, with him out of the way, his team was clearly startled now, losing their leader.

"Laura!" I said signalling to her.

"Sure!" Laura casted a spell that took out a portion of the platform from under them, making them momentarily lose balance, which in turn made them lose focus even more...

Needless to say, they got wiped out by the barrage of spears heading their way.

"Okay that's done! Well done everyone! The exams are now over!" Teacher Loupe says clapping his hands.

The nobles watching from the sidelines couldn't help but cheer.

"Nice display of magic!"

"I have never seen anything like that before!"

They shouted out praises for the contestants below, mostly for Lady Catherine and Sophia.

Teacher Loupe gathered us all in the middle of the stage.

We all shaked the other teams hand, showing that we all enjoyed that.

"Alfred! It went nothing like you said! We got destroyed!" The nobles we fought put their arm around Alfred's neck, smiling.

"Oh, come on! There was absolutely no way to defend against that!" Alfred says laughing with his team.

I'm glad that he found some people he could call friends, back then I remember that he wasn't anyone this impressive. Which makes me think, if I was the reason why this happened, if I can change the fate of one person, surely I can change Lady Catherine's... Right?
