CHAPTER 26

IT WAS A LONG DRIVE that Valouise fell asleep. It took them more than 2 hours before they arrived at the farm where his favourite botanical garden is. Hindi na inabala ni Bylur ang tulog nito at hinintay na lang itong magising. Sumandal siya sa upuan n'ya habang matiim na nakatitig kay Valouise.

His gaze was filled with tenderness and adoration. Looking at Valouise made him realize lots of things. His eyes that were filled with love and softness were replaced with conscience and letdown. He has ruined her life again.

Akala n'ya ay natanggap na n'ya ang nangyari sa kanila noon pero nang makita n'ya si Valouise sa Espanya, hindi mapakali ang puso at isip n'ya. Lagi na nya itong hanap-hanap hanggang sa muli silang pinagtagpo na para bang tinadhanang multi silang magkita.

Is this really fate? Or a curse?

The curse of the bad decisions he has made back then. Those bad decisions that ruined not just him but Galina's life, Colden and their relationship.

But was it really my fault? I'm just trying to protect them.

Bylur squished his eyes shut and deeply sighed. This should be a happy day for Valouise. I should ruin this.

Suddenly, Valouise was awake and she found Bylur with his eyes shut and looked so bothered. Valouise reached for his hand and held it, squizzed it softly as she ask him, “Ayos ka lang?”

Malumanay na boses n'yang tanong kay Bylur. Agad napatingin si Bylur sa kaniya. Nagtagpo ang mga mata nila at nababasa ni Valouise sa mga mata nito ang lungkot at pagkabahala.

“Leave your worries behind, let's just enjoy this day, okay?” Saad ni Valouise at nginitian ito. Maliit na ngiti lang ang tugon ni Bylur at tumango.

“Andito na ba tayo?” Pag-iba ng usapan ni Valouise at tumingin sa labas.

Then, she found a familiar road, surrounded with trees and the sky’s very clear, that's when she realized they were away from the city. She gasped in excitement and didn't waste any second, she immediately jumped out of the car.  Bylur went out the car and looked at how excited she was.

“Oh my God!” She gasped upon realizing they were on their way to Bangkong Kahoy Valley. She roamed her eyes around the place and couldn't hide the excitement as she said in a high-pitched voice, “Let's go! Let's go!”

She hopped back inside the car. Napailing na lang si Bylur at napangiti. Sumunod kaagad siya at pumasok sa kotse. Hindi na siya nag aksaya ng oras pa at patuloy na nagmaneho.

Pagdating nila ay agad namang tumakbo si Valouise at masayang nagpaikot-ikot.

She was swaying her whole body, dancing gracefully as her hair sways together with the wind.

“Thank you, Bylur!”

She screamed while looking at Bylur from distant. Bylur smiled at her and sighed.

It's been a while since she called me by my name.

Bylur was happy. He is happy. Seeing Valouise happy with this small thing he did for her makes him feel a little ease. He have hurt her quite a lot of time and he knows he doesn't deserve her. She's too kind and sweet. She's too innocent and forgiving for a man like him.

“She's too good for someone who's as evil as me.” He whispered to himself and bitterly smiled at himself. He looks at her once again.

“Ha? May sinasabi ka ba?” Sigaw nito.

“Wala!” Sigaw pabalik ni Bylur umiling. Agad naman siyang naglakad papalapit kay Valouise.

“Let's go?” Sambit ni Bylur at marahang hinawakan ang kamay nito.

Valouise looked at Bylur's hand, holding hers. She felt that once again. That warmth that always sends electricity through her veins, setting the butterflies in her stomach in havoc— he is holding me. Then, she looked up to him, staring straight to his eyes. He smiled softly at her, making Valouise felt that strange feelings — mixed emotions enveloped her. She's happy yet sad. She feels love yet guilty. She feels excited yet afraid.

Bylur's hand tightened holding hers and he pulled her gently and walked with his hand holding Valouise's. Valouise let him walked her until she saw a picnic mat with her favourite foods placed in there.

“Sit down, Val!” Bylur excitedly said as he guided her to sit in the picnic mat. Valouise was still surprised.

“W-What’s this?” she stuttered. Bylur sat down across her and looked at her with his soft gaze.

“A date. A real date with you.” He whispered.

“I-I mean… How did you know this place? This set up? The foods?”

Bylur layed down and looked at the blue sky.

“Remember our last fight?” Bylur asked in a whisper. Valouise just nodded.

“When you left… When you left the house, with your things unpacked. I went to your room after days. I missed you.” Bylur started. He closed his eyes as he recalled what happened those times.

“Nakita ko journal mo. Nakabukas ‘to and I couldn’t stop myself from looking. I've read the opened page. Your bucket list.”

Valouise was shocked. It was not just her bucket list in there. She left a note saying that her life is getting worse for what have happened recently and she knows that Bylur knows what she meant. She thought it might have hurt his feelings.

“I want to grant at least few things in your bucket list. Things are not going well for you, this is the least I can do.” Bylur added and was silent after it. There's a hint of sadness and his voice.

Valouise was teary eyed. She felt seen. She felt loved and valued. Something she never have experienced before ever since her parents died.

She blocked Bylur's face facing the sky with her hands.

“T-Thank you, Bylur.” The only words that her mouth could utter.

Bylur opened his eyes and found her looking at her with tears in the corner of her eyes. Bylur reached for her hand and pulled her. He held her waist and pulled her for a kiss.

He placed his lips gently on hers. He gently moved his lips as he savoured this genuine moment between them. Valouise answered his kissed and held his face. Her tears flowed down from her eyes while they were kissing.

This date. This moment. This kiss. Everything feels magical and special.
