CHAPTER 10

There's still fear in the back of Valouise's mind, it never left her since then. She fears death and knowing that her life is at risk, it makes her anxious every single moment. But, even though Bylur is also a stranger to Valouise, it didn't stop her from trusting him. Ilang beses na s'yang iniligtas ng lalaking iyon. Higit pa roon, magaan ang pakiramdam ni Valouise kay Bylur kahit kakakilala lang nila— alam n'yang hindi siya dapat magpakampanti at maging ma-ingat pa rin.

“Val! Is something wrong?” pagpukaw ni Bylur dahil nakita n'yang nakatunganga ito kahit nasa hapagkainan.

“H-Ha? Y-Yes! Ayos lang ako, may iniisip lang.” Sagot naman nito. Agad namang bumalik ang atensyon nya sa pagkain at umastang ayos lang.

Alam na ni Bylur kaagad kung ano ang iniisip nito. Alam n'yang natatakot pa rin ang dalaga sa kung ano man ang mangyayari sa kaniya dahil sa sitwasyon nila. Bylur doesn't know how to soothe her feelings, he just sighs in secret— trying to figure out what to do. He just can't stand seeing Valouise being so bothered and anxious. Hindi nya pwedeng hayaang ganoon lalo na't kasalanan niya ang mga nangyayaring kaguluhan sa buhay nito.

“Your room will be the same as last time. Katabi lang ng kwarto ko para kung may kailangan ka, madali kitang mapupuntahan. Don't hesitate to call me, whether it's a small or big thing, I'll be there.” Bylur said and finished the food on his plate.

“And also, mas mabuti kung ang protection necklace at gagamitin mo lang kung nasa panganip ka. Kung may mga kailangan ka lang, katukin mo lang ako sa kwarto. Para naman alam ko kung kailangan kailangan mag-alala o hindi.” Dagdag pa nito at agad namang tinanguan ni Valouise.

Napagkasunduan nilang manatili muna si Valouise ng ilang araw sa bahay ni Bylur at kung hindi man siya maging komportable rito ay hahayaan siya ni Bylur na mag desisyon kung anong gusto n'yang paraan. Bylur thought this was the easiest and safest way to protect Valouise.

“Thank you, Mr. Eisenhower.”

“Please drop the formality. I will appreciate it if you will call me by my name or nothing at all. Nakakailang kasi na palaging apelyido ko ang binabanggit mo.” Sambit pa ni Bylur na sinang-ayunan naman ni Valouise. Bylur thinks it was awkward for her to call her by his name constantly even in a casual conversation.

“Sorry for that. Hindi ko kasi alam kung ano ba dapat itawag sa'yo but rest assured that I won't call you that way again.” Sagot naman ni Valouise.

Ilang minuto pa ay natapos na ring kumain si Valouise kaya niligpit agad ito ni Bylur. Pagkatapos ay agad naman pumasok si Valouise sa kwarto at inayos ang mga gamit kung saan siya mananatili. It was homey for her. The room was warm and comfortable to stay in.

She sat down on the edge of the bed and sighed. The uneasiness in her mind is still there but she's trying to calm herself down and trust in him. Sa mga pinapakita ni Bylur sa kaniya ay dahan-dahan na niyang pinagkakatiwalaan ito. She's left with no choice but to trust a stranger that had protected and saved her countless times rather than to let herself be and die without a match.

“Kailangan ko magtiwala sa kaniya.” Sambit n'ya sa sarili at sinubukang iwasan ang mapaisip ng masama.

Bylur was worried. He saw how bothered she was and it bothers him too. He saw how down and silent Valouise was and he couldn't let it be. Desperately, he searched the web on how to comfort a person. Natatawa siya sa sarili n'ya kung bakit niya ginagawa ito para sa taong kakakilala n’ya lang pero hindi n'ya magawang hayaan si Valouise na hindi komportable.

After searching the web, he was able to decide what to do and went out of the house immediately. He went to the nearest convenience store to buy ice cream. He doesn't know what kind of ice cream Valouise likes and went for a chocolate one since it can enhance moods. After buying, he went home in haste and went for Valouise's temporary room. Hindi siya agad kumatok dahil hindi n'ya alam kung ano ang sasabihin o paano n'ya ibibigay ito.

“Hi! Sorry to bother you but I bought you some— Shit, no! It's weird. It sounds too formal.” He practiced and shook his head on himself. Hindi niya alam kung bakit niya ginagawa ito!

“Hi! I hope you'll like— tangina ano ba ‘tong pinagsasabi mo?!” Inis na sambit n'ya sa sarili. Naisip n'yang para siyang baliw na kinakausap ang sarili sa estadong iyon.

“Hi, Valouise! This is for— no, it sounds cringe!” He sighed in annoyance. Bahala na. Saad n'ya sa isip. Kakatok na sana siya nang biglang bumukas ang pinto. Bylur’s eyes encircled, confusion and shock was visible in Valouise's face. Nagkatitigan sila ng ilang segundo bago pa nagsalita si Valouise.

“H-Hi? M-May problema na?” Naguguluhang tanong ni Valouise rito. Kita niyang mag dala ang lalaki at halata ang gulat sa mukha nito.

“May sasabihin ka?” Tanong nito ulit.

“I-Ice cream?” Utal na sambit ni Bylur at pinakita kay Valouise ang bitbit nitong paper bag. Nahihiyang inabot ni Bylur ito na naguguluhang tinanggap ni Valouise.

“Bakit? Para saan?” Tanong ni Valouise.

“Uh… I think ice cream is a good idea to enhance your mood. Enjoy!” Sagot ni Bylur at tumalikod. He immediately went inside his room without looking back.

Valouise was left speechless and stunned with the ice cream on her hand. She went back inside the room to look at the thing he gave her.

It was chocolate ice cream. It made her smile. Kahit hindi pa niya nakakain ito, gumaan na kaagad ang nararamdaman niya. He is so thoughtful.

Masayang binuksan ni Valouise ito at kinaon. Whether ice cream is an effective comfort food or not, she was already relieved knowing and seeing that he cared for her sanity and not just her safety. She never had someone to take care of her that way ever since her parents died.

It might not be my favourite flavour but he have his time and effort to make me feel better. It makes me feel loving the chocolate flavor now.
