Chapter 10 ~ Darkness meets Light in Fire

Third Person Pov:

The ninja couldn't believe it...

It's Kai... He is standing in front of them. But it's also not Kai because of how messed up and terrifying he looks corrupted. Kai was a deep shade of black with only his face glowing bright red. What made them more scared was that he was smiling. And they've seen how Morro was before. He was more visible to see in the dark and only his dark green eyes glow. But Kai is pitch black, darker than Cole's gi! The ninja and the Rabbits' eyes were widened with fear. They knew they had to find him, they just didn't expect him to be different. "K-... Kai...?", was all Rabbit could whisper out as her bottom lip trembled. She was on the urge of tears. "Kai! Don't worry! If you can hear me, we're going to break you free from the corruption! Okay?", Nya smiles to hide her worry, trying to get to her brother. But as soon as she said that, Kai's hand flinched. And Rabbit gasped at what Kai did next.

He lit his hand on fire. And another thing that's worse about Kai is how his fire is no longer a bright red and orange fire, like the one on the torch White Rabbit was holding in her very hands. It was white. Although it still shone bright enough to see, it was a sign that Kai was close to full corruption. He lit his other hand on fire. Taking this as a sign of a fight, the ninja put their masks on and summon their elements as well, getting into fighting positions. Zane looked to Rabbit, "I suggest you stay out of this fight! Kai is a good fighter and since he's corrupted, he won't go easy." She nods and goes to hide behind a tree next to a few bushes. Luckily there was enough space for them to all fight together. "Make sure you don't let him bite you!", Cole warns. "Right!", they respond with determination. I'm not going to let you go again..., Cole thinks as Kai starts the fight. He runs towards Nya with a fist of fire. Nya quickly jumps out of the way, making Kai failing his first punch. Kai whips his head to Zane. Zane tried to jump out of the way but Kai grabs him by the feet. He uses spinjitzu, using Zane to hit the others close by.

"Zane!", Jay screams to him. The next thing they knew, Zane was launched into the sky. They could hear his robotic scream as he began to fall, closer and closer to the ground. Cole reacts quickly enough to catch him. "Ugh... Thank you Cole...", Zane thanks his friend as his feet are back on the ground. Cole doesn't say anything, looking back at Kai as he seemed to have stopped his spinjitzu. A hallow laugh was heard, sending shivers up their spines. Kai looked to them with his creepily happy smile. Lloyd's eyes widen knowing what he's about to do by creating a pretty big fire ball. Lloyd gasps and warns the others, "Get down!!" They bend their knees, being in a ducking position, as Kai launches a massive wave of white fire. "Whoa!! It feels like I'm in an oven!!", Jay yells. "It must be the corruption! It seems to be increasing his powers!", Zane states. The fire seems to be never ending. But Cole seemed to have caught something in his eyes, "Guys! The white fire is changing to grey fire!" They all look to see the white fire was indeed changing its color into a grey. Meanwhile, with Rabbit, her face filled with worry as she sees Kai covering the ninja in a coat of grey fire. She had to do something! She then realizes she that she has a torch lit up with normal fire. The girl had an idea but didn't know if she would burn alive or luck would be on her side. She started to run out of her hiding spot, screaming a battle cry. The corrupted Kai looked to her while keeping fire from his hands burn. Tears began to run down Rabbits cheeks hoping it would work. She runs in the fire. But as she thought, the fire on the torch fought off Kai's fire!

The ninja look to see that White Rabbit is using her torch fire to fight off the corrupted fire. They cheer to Rabbit, praising her for her assistance. "Now is not the time to celebrate, friends!", she grunts struggling to keep herself still. The winds, the fires made colliding with each other, were strong and began to push her back. The ninja run to White Rabbit and help her stay in the spot. Unfortunately, they were only able to keep still for not long. Kai used more fire and pushed them back. They groaned as they all sat up. Kai calmed his fire. "Are you okay, Rabbit?", Nya asks helping the hybrid up. "Agh! My arm...", she turns to her left arm, "It hurts..." Zane walks over to the two women. He softly grabs White Rabbits arm as he scans it. Once he finished he stated that it is dislocated. Lloyd comes in, ordering Nya to stay with Rabbit until they are able to free Kai. She nods and goes behind a tree helping Rabbit sit for the time being.

"Guys... Something's wrong...", Cole explains. The boys look at what Cole is seeing. It's Kai... He's shaking, trembling. Grunts could be heard while he's trying to raise his hands onto his head. "What's wrong with him?", Jay asks. "He's trying to fight the corruption! Kai is trying to break free!", Zane points out with a grin. Lloyd smiles and decides to use this as an opportunity to try to hit Kai with his energy to free him. "Hang on Kai!", Lloyd yells to him summoning his power and shot it at him. A bright green glow shines along with a strong wind. They cover their eyes and look back, "Did it work?", Cole asks. The black ninja slowly walks forward trying to get a clear view of where Kai would be in the cloud of dust. Then, an eye appeared. Soon the dust cleared out and they gasp in shock. The figure is Kai, still corrupted. But the only thing that seems to be back to normal is his right eye. His tanned skin is shown with his eye closed. But the corruption surrounded it and was still the same. Jay scoffed in disappointment, "Are you serious?! Lloyd hit him either way! He should've been back to normal! But it's only his eye that's back to normal?! Come on!!", he complained. Cole back away, returning to the other four.

"Wh... Why didn't it work?", Cole asked quietly and looked to Zane, who seemed to be in thought. Zane blinks in realization, "That's it! Didn't White Rabbit say that most of these people that were corrupted were unable to use their powers depending on how powerful they are?" "Yes, and...?", Jay replies. "Well maybe when they are able to use their powers, it also makes the corruption harder to fight off?"

They actually never thought of it that way. "But if it's true..." "Then, we're gonna have to shoot him with Lloyd's power every chance we get!", Cole interrupts Lloyd. They nod in agreement and bring back their confidence. "The thing I don't get is that why Kai's eye is closed. Did anyone notice that?", Jay points out. Zane scans him, "He's unconscious. It seems he's wasted a lot of energy trying to, at least, slow down the corruption." "Maybe we can try to wake him up! If he's awake then he might be able to stay still and we'll have a better chance to save him!", Lloyd plans out and explains to the others. "It might take a while to wake him though. He seemed to have waisted a lot of energy", Zane explains. Cole puts his faces together, "Then, let's make sure we wake him up as soon as possible!"

"Ninja... Go!!"
