"About not underestimating your opponent," Chang muttered and walked away casually, where he picked a spot beside Jessica and went into cultivation to replenish his used energy.
My mouth fell.
There was only one sentence running through my head on repeat: 'He knows ancient martial arts! He knows ancient martial arts!'
Maybe watching the boys combat was way cooler. I mean...
I turned to look from Mingming to Ruby and couldn't help but shake my head.
'Good for nothings. Fainting themselves with a punch each.'
I looked at Teacher Haggz, expecting him to show surprise or nod thoughtfully. Nothing. He simply looked on as if it was no big deal at all.
'Weirdo.' I wondered why he was so charming, anyway. Such people were normally ugly, to begin with.
Tang managed to stand up with a purple and swollen pair of eyes that looked as big as the meat balls I ate last night. He looked around and shouted, "Show's over! You may now look away!"
He walked away, managing to shoot himself up to the lowest branch of the tree he was earlier on, and clung hard, before sitting down for meditation. With his swollen lips, one could only image the force contained in each of Tang's strikes.
"Lingxi!"
Lingxi stepped out as Teacher Haggz called out her name. She hadn't bothered healing Tang since the latter was so conceited. She walked out and read out her lot.
"My opponent's... Zhaohu."
The way her expression dropped, it seemed like she was crestfallen. Why? I didn't know.
Mingming shot to her feet.
"If Zhaohu gets as little as a scratch from that terrible sword of yours, I swear I'll kill you." She sat back down and gave Zhaohu a knowing look.
Unlike Chang, Lingxi's right eye was what was twitching. She couldn't help but blurt out, "Aren't you shameless?! Do you think Zhaohu can let my blades easily smear his skin?"
Zhaohu was already walking out in embarrassment, peeping through his fingers all through the way to the right hand side of the field, as Lingxi made her way to the left.
They faced each other across the field, staring for a moment as a chill wind ran through the surrounding trees and ruffled their hairs.
"Begin!"
Lingxi's wrist flicked a little and her terrifying Glacial Sword appeared, sending forth a chilly aura around her. The light gleamed off the blade of her blue sword.
As if on queue, they both began to charge at themselves, leaving shockwaves behind.
Zhaohu's hands were spinning behind him, suddenly making his speed accelerated to about 30% of his normal Transcendent Mortal realm pinnacle stage's.
In the blink of an eye, he had already arrived before Lingxi with a quick swerve to manoeuvre through the hungry sword in her hands.
Lingxi could have felt that Zhaohu's missing her attack meant she was in real trouble, because she suddenly tossed her sword behind her, hoping it would pierce him, and did a dive roll forward.
Was it luck? I clearly saw the sword passing Zhaohu's spinning figure by a hair breadth, and how — without reducing his acceleration speed or looking — he caught the sword by the hilt, then made a 180 degree swipe at the figure of Lingxi.
The sword frost caught up with Lingxi, and gave her a clear horizontal cut in the back. Everyone drew in a cold breath.
"Agh!" Lingxi cried then gritted her teeth, as she staggered forward for about six steps, before whipping her head around. She immediately sent a killing blood-shot gaze at Mingming as if she was saying that this was all her fault. Then, she turned around and ran towards Zhaohu headfirst.
Zhaohu stood still, watching her carefully. In his right hand was the Glacial Sword.
At that moment when everyone was wondering how she would fight back, Lingxi suddenly used this very mystifying footwork that caused several illusions behind her.
Zhaohu's smile suddenly dropped. His grip on the sword tensed and he sprinted forward before making an arc with the sword in the air, to dispel the illusions.
Lingxi noticed this and immediately took for the sky, rather than taking the force from the sword upfront, then as she descended, she used her leg to kick the sword out of Zhaohu's hands. How her leg didn't get chopped off is still a mystery.
Zhaohu charge at her and arched a blow which she easily dodged. She gave him a punch of her own in his rib, causing his mouth to gather with some red liquid that was undoubtedly blood. He aimed a kick at her face in fury, but she side stepped and struck him at the back of his leg with her own leg. By now, it was already obvious that Lingxi's fort was in close combat.
The force that struck Zhaohu on his calf sent him kneeling, involuntarily. Before he could push himself up, he was struck on his buttocks, sending him head first into the ground.
Lingxi wasn't done.
She pulled his head out of the earth, raised him to face her, and struck his face with her fist. That punch must definitely have broken his skull.
"That's for using my weapon against me." She dumped him on the floor once more, very heavily, and went to retrieve her Glacial Sword before coming out of the field.
There was no need to confirm if Zhaohu admitted defeat. He was definitely unconscious already.
"Lingxi wins!" Teacher Haggz said with a slight nod at her, before glancing back at Zhaohu emotionlessly.
My ears immediately picked the voice of Blackie who hadn't spoken since the beginning of class.
"Why would he let her beat him...?"
There was this sort of disbelief in his voice that almost sounded like he'd seen something impossible. I snickered. "Let her beat him", he says? Someone who was obviously helpless. Who wants to take a free beating, to begin with?
