Chapter 26 (Old)

I didn't know what came over me as a vision showed in front of my eyes...

A scene played in front of me... Which was odd... I don't remember having any collection about this scene...

It was me, wearing the same old plain lab coat. Even though I had left that place, I still have that stupid coat... Now it is nothing more than a reminder of my own failure...

I was sitting on my desk staring at the broken but still working flip phone. Not even caring a single thing about the huge amount of paperwork on my desk...

It was an outdated phone that many would call it "ancient"... Yet... it held so many memories...

A name was shown on top while a simple bold front could be seen through the broken glass of the phone. "No message in 2539 days."

It...almost 7 years... And yet nothing...

"You're still looking at that broken thing?" A coworker snapped me out of my thoughts... It's been so long... I don't even remember their name or their face...

"Did you have a fight with someone?" He commented as he somehow managed to see through the broken glass.

A bunch of "I miss you", "Please come back" and "I'm sorry"... Other than that, there was absolutely nothing... No replies only mine...

"Here." He said as he placed a regular plastic cup next to the pile of paper... Not understanding why as I look up to my coworker as he give me a smile.

"____ told me to give it to you. She said told me this was your favorite, so I bought it for you." After placing the cup on my table as he begins to leave...

...Who was this person he was talking about...?

"Enjoy it while you can. I'm sure it will help you with your work." He said before taking a turn around the corner and was out of my view...

Staring back at the plain white plastic cup I could smell the familiar aroma coming out of the lid of the cup... The smell of caffeine...

Picking up the plastic cup in my hand as I begin to drink it... It's still warm but not extremely hot... Same old instant coffee of my favorite brand...

Not too much sugar nor too little... No milk like always and a small aftertaste of sweet chocolate at the end... Coffee is usually bitter, but the chocolate made it less bitter in the end...

But...

"It's bitter..." I blurted out without knowing why... It wasn't that bitter... So... what am I even talking about?

Taking another sip... I could feel my throat tighten... Another sip... I don't know why, but my hands held the plastic cup tighter...

Yet another... A small droplet of water fell onto my hand... Guess I accidentally spilled my coffee somehow... Which is odd... I never spill it once...

...It wasn't coffee...

Snapping myself back from the daydream was a rumble before the whole place began to heat up... What the fuck is happening?

"Huh... that was... unexpected..." She said as if she realized what had just happened. "Didn't expect that brick wall to pull that trick off her ass."

As if her words had made someone who was unconscious... show a slight tick on their face as if they too somehow had heard her words...

"Why do I feel like someone's about to murder me?" She suddenly blurted out as she felt chill behind her back... "Did I piss off that ancient chicken somehow?"
