"Hey look! There it is!" you heard Klein announce next to you, pointing at a town. You smiled, glad you wouldn't have to spend the night in the open with a bunch of men you just met. It didn't look crowded, so you could probably pick up a decent sword from the town's blacksmith.
Once inside the town, the group stopped.
"Alright," Issin announced. "Should we meet here tomorrow morning at sunrise?"
Everyone nodded, including you, then dispersed to go do their own business and exploring.
You started to walk towards the blacksmith shop you noticed during Issin's announcement. You looked at your amount of Cor. It should be enough for a good sword.
"Now that things have calmed down, mind if I come along?" a voice said rather loudly behind you.
You looked left out of the corner of your eye to see Klein rather close to you.
"Aren't you already?" you monotonously asked, slightly moving away from him.
"I'm just gonna take that as a yes," he said, still keeping his peppy tone. "So, where to, (Y/N)?"
"Well, I'm heading to the blacksmith shop for a sword. I don't want what happened with that wolf to happen again."
He nodded.
"Do you want to maybe do something fun after that?"
You raised an eyebrow and looked at him.
"Fun?"
"Gosh (Y/N)!" he groaned aloud, throwing his head back slightly.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean? I didn't know what you had in mind!" you retorted, crossing your arms.
He laughed at your verbal defense.
"I meant maybe something like, uh... Dinner," he said, looking at the ground.
You smiled and opened the shop door.
"Why not- I'm really hungry and I haven't eaten yet."
Upon walking through the door with Klein behind you, you saw that multiple shining weapons adorned every wall of the shop. You felt your eyes grow wide at the number of them. This shop is obviously way better than the one in the Town of Beginnings.
It was probably more expensive too.
"Woah," you heard Klein whisper.
You turned to the blacksmith.
"Welcome!" He said. "You're my first customer, so I'll give you a discount!"
Well, that made you feel better about the price.
"Do you mind if we hold some of the weapons?" you asked.
"Sure, that's fine!" The blacksmith responded.
Klein, excited and wide-eyed, took off across the room to pick up the shiniest sword in the room.
You laughed at him. It was like watching a kid in a candy store.
You turned to the other side of the store to see a white sword with a thin silver blade. It reminded you a little of a fencing blade. You gently picked it up off the stand to get the feel of holding it.
"What are the statistics on this blade?" you asked the blacksmith. You liked it because it wasn't heavy like you knew some could be.
"Oh," he said, walking over to you, "that one has a 300 point impact on a maximum attack."
It wasn't too bad, but you wanted to see if there was a higher amount of damage points on a light sword. Klein walked over to look at it, holding a katana.
"I like the feel of this one," you told the smith. "Is there a sword that's similar to this but with a higher damage number?"
"I have one over here," he replied, moving across the store. He picked it up off the stand and brought it back over to where you were.
You swapped swords and held the new one. It was slightly heavier, but not enough to really affect you. It also had a bigger guard over the hand area, but it was still the same color.
"That one has a damage score of 500 at a maximum attack," he explained.
"I like it," you smiled. "How much is it?"
"450 Cor," he said with a smile.
Yeah, this was definitely more expensive than the Town of Beginnings blacksmith shop. You wanted a good sword though, so you paid without complaint.
After Klein paid for his katana, which he was buzzing with excitement over, you both walked out of the shop. You replaced your bow and arrow with your new sword.
"So, about that fun dinner..." you trailed off to Klein, hoping that he would take the hint that you're starving.
"Oh!" his eyes lit up. "There's a restaurant- c'mon!"
Once inside, you both ordered. You were sitting in front of Klein at a wooden table. There wasn't many players in the restaurant.
"It surprises me that you aren't shocked over the whole 'being trapped' thing," you said, folding your hands on top of the table.
"Yeah, it's a bit surprising to myself actually. How are you coping with it yourself, (Y/N)?"
You shrugged.
"I guess I just willed myself to keep moving."
He nodded.
"If you don't mind me asking, why don't you want to be part of our guild?" He said, studying you. "Don't worry- I won't be offended by your answer."
You sighed.
"I just don't want to feel like I'm tied down to something. I don't know if that makes sense."
"No, it makes sense." he replied. "I trust these guys- that's the only reason I'm trying to start one with them."
"I'm sorry. I guess it does help if you know the player in real life as well," you concluded.
Your food came, and you both are in silence for a bit. You missed eating actual food instead of virtually rendered food, but hunger is hunger.
"So," you began, smiling, "what's your plans for tomorrow, Mr. Guild Master?"
He grinned and laughed at the nickname you gave him.
"I was planning on trying to figure out the requirements for getting guild status," he said.
"Sounds like a good place to start," you replied.
After the meal, you both walked to the town inn to each get a room for the night. You looked down at the ground as you walked, and Klein scuffed his feet across the cobblestone pavement.
It was odd that you could feel comfortable around someone you just met that wasn't even there.
