Thankfully, the night came quite quickly. The other players were soon beginning to clear out of the streets, either to get a hotel room or travel to the front lines or another town. You stood from your crouched position and stretched your cramped legs.
First task: Find the inn.
Sliding your cloak hood over your face, you slowly walked out of the alley into the Main Street. You kept your sword concealed underneath the length of your cloak.
Surveying the streets, you quickly located the front of the inn.
Second task: Find Klein's room from the rooftop.
You headed down the adjacent alley and used various boxes and items to climb onto the rooftop. From there, you hopped onto the rooftop that ran slightly under the inn rooms' windows.
You looked in the windows to try and find Klein. It was at this time that you were very glad you accumulated a high stealth level, as you didn't want to be noticed by another member of the guild. It could cause a lot of problems if you were noticed by them.
After the fifth or sixth window you looked in, you saw Klein walk in the room and stretch. He looked exasperated. Your heart skipped a beat when you saw him, and you shakily raised your hand to knock on the window, making two barely noticeable taps.
Third task: Explain everything.
You saw Klein squint his eyes at the window, and slowly walk over. You slightly removed your hood so he could see who you were. After he recognized you, he smiled, raised the window and stepped back so you could come in his room.
You swung your legs into his room and slid your body in, then turned around and closed the window.
"I'm sorry if I scared you- I didn't want to be seen by anyone else," you said.
He shook his head and pulled you into a tight hug. At first, you tensed, but then relaxed and hugged back.
Releasing one another, you looked at Klein to see he was on the verge of tears.
"Issin told us all that you left because you didn't want to be with us," he said.
So Issin did tell them what he said he would.
You shook your head.
"I didn't want to leave- he pretty much abducted me and stranded me in a lone cabin on a lower floor. He said that he was jealous of you being with me, so he simply took me for himself."
Klein raised an eyebrow.
"That doesn't make sense," he said. "Issin's been my friend since freshman year of college! He wouldn't do anything like that to anyone!"
"I guess virtual reality like this can numb people," you replied. "I just know that's what happened."
He placed a couple of fingers on his chin.
"That's really far-fetched, (Y/N). I'm not sure I believe you."
You hadn't considered he might not believe you. You let your shoulders slump, staring at him as a couple of tears rolled down your cheeks. You tried to think of a way to prove yourself.
Wait- the poisons! Surely Klein knew that you didn't have the ability to make them!
"I can prove it!" you shakily argued, opening your inventory. You removed the three vials, and held them in your palm. "Issin used these to capture me."
Klein looked at them in disbelief. Then, it was if you could see the gears grinding in his head and everything fell into place.
He looked at you with wide, angry eyes, then clenched his fists.
"So you understand now, Klein?"
"He's going to pay."
With that, he turned to the door and started walking.
You ran in front of him and held out your hands.
"No! Don't do anything rash!" you exclaimed.
"Why shouldn't I, (Y/N)?! He freaking abducted you!"
"Because then he'll target you and I both!"
He sighed and closed his eyes, then turned and sat on the bed. You simply stood and watched him, afraid of what might happen next.
"Then I... can just leave the guild. We can disappear."
You violently shook your head.
"You're in the same guild as him now- he can see your location. Besides, the rest of the guys need you, Klein. You're a good fighter and leader. It wouldn't be fair to let the others suffer because of Issin's mistake."
He buried his face in his hands.
"What are we going to do?"
You were silent for a moment, then spoke.
"Well, my stealth level is almost full, so maybe I could still be with you guys but just hide. It's not a good idea, but it's the best I've got right now. Besides, now that I've escaped, Issin may automatically target you in anger."
He looked at you, then nodded.
"I guess it's settled then."
You turned to go reopen the window to leave. He grabbed your wrist as you tried to walk away.
"Please don't go."
You turned around and looked at him.
"Just stay here. I want to make sure you're safe," he said.
You slightly smiled and nodded.
Opening your inventory, you removed your cloak and boots. He removed his armor and boots, and turned off the light in the room.
You each laid on your own side of the bed, and Klein wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer. You buried your head in his chest, and quickly drifted into sleep.
