You woke up in a cold sweat and flung upright within a bed. You clutched onto your chest and breathed loudly, your frantic heart thundering beneath your grasp. As you began to relax you took a moment to analyze your surroundings. You were in a neatly decorated room with constellations lining the walls and a star dusted chandelier dangling down just above you. You realized quickly that you were still in Stolas's palace. You let your head fall forward as you tried to process everything that you had just experienced. Part of you wanted to believe it had just been a crazy dream, but you knew deep inside that those thoughts were wrong. Mammon was coming for you any moment and panic set into your veins.

You let yourself tumble over onto your right side as you reached toward the bedside table's drawer hoping to find something, anything to write a note with. Luckily inside the drawer was a leather bound book that discussed different planets and beside it was a golden pen. You snatched the two items and quickly flipped open the book to find a blank page behind the title page. You ripped it from its stitches and set it down roughly on the side table before clicking on the pen and hastily beginning to jot down every thought that ran through your head.

Your words danced in a messy jumble that filled the page entirely, small tears smudged some of the wet ink as your mind accepted the things that you had stated within your letter. You took a glimpse down at your left hand and closed your eyes with regret as you hesitancy peeled your ruby engagement ring off of your finger before angrily setting it on top of your note that still laid on the bedside table waiting for its intended recipient to read it.

As you began to stand from the bed the portal that you had seen within the depths of your mind cracked open against the wall, a bright yellow light flooded onto the tiled floor. Your eyes creased almost shut before you could finally adjust to the light and peer into the other location that stared at you from inside of the portal. There he was, just as terrifying as you had seen in your mind, Mammon. He smiled wickedly from the other side of the portal, his hand out stretched and gesturing for you to come through.

Frustratedly you wiped your tears off of your cheeks and exhaled loudly before you began walking toward the portal. With each step you reminded yourself that you were protecting the ones that you loved so deeply, the ones who made your existence in Hell worth experiencing, the ones who made you feel alive again.

Your thoughts raddled your mind as you inhaled deeply and made your final step through the portal that immediately slammed shut behind your being. You felt a drastic change in your environment as you entered beside Mammon who immediately reached his hand out to you, confirming your allegiance.

"Good choice little Imp," he smiled widely, his eyes flashing down at you, "good choice."

You reluctantly followed him, your head turning back toward where the portal had been only to find a hardened wall between you and everyone that you loved. Though you despised the distance you accepted it as what it also was, their safety.

It felt as though all that you had accomplished over the last few months was suddenly ripped away from you, your future being forced upon you with a decision that you really hadn't had a say in. But if doing as Mammon commanded kept everyone that you loved safe you'd do it gladly. As your mind continued to flip through memory after memory of your time in Hell you decided instead of labeling your past experiences as a waste of time that you'd accept them as one helluva distraction.
