"So like Marissa got like four hundred and something votes and I was like a hundred votes behind, my God, my heart was beating like..."

'Be careful what you wish for' was something my middle school teacher had always repeated.

I get it now.

Remember when I thought Ail's voice would be a distraction?

It wasn't

In fact it was the exact opposite: Mentally draining, and she just happened to add up to my list of problems as I wondered various ways to shut her up.

"Wow" I feigned interest to whatever she was saying as I stared at the door.

For this unknown reason, the café was empty, like very, very, empty, and it had been like this for two hours. TWO LONG HOURS!! How could I be so sure you might ponder?

Well while ail drained my ears with all the words that she vomited, I have been silently staring at the clock and praying to God to please let the bell chime, so I could run out of the counter and ask whoever walked pass that door what their order was because that would be far better than Ail's voice that got higher each second she spoke as she never remembered to breathe while talking- don't ask me how.

And then it went quiet....very, very quiet.

I heard a slurp, a disgustingly long slurp, she was drinking her coffee while staring at me.

And then silence again, which lasted for a short while.

"What is it now" as you already know having ail quiet is a miracle, and miracles happened rarely in this book.

"Today's your last day of suspension, right?" she emphasized the "right" as she spun in her chair.

"What do you want?"

She spun again "so .....There's a par-"

"No" I deadpanned as I stood up from my chair and took Ail's coffee along with me.

I would have been a normal teenager and used my phone if the battery hadn't mysteriously died. The twins used it all night and forgot to plug it afterwards.

She followed me as she stomped angrily "do you mean like no as in no more coffee or no as in no party"

Both. She knew that of course, so there was no point answering dumb questions.

"Noooo" another whine from ail erupted as I poured her coffee down the drain. She had enough energy to move a car with her loud mouth so her on caffeine is like a torment to society at large and I'm not kidding.

"Jane stop bullying Aileen" Emma appeared from nowhere as she turned the 'we're open' sign over to 'we're closed'

"So soon!" another whine and foot stomp. No seriously you can agree that now she was just finding a reason to whine and stomp.

"Yeah, I think you guys will need more time to prepare for that party" Emily explained as she loosened her bun.

"There is no party and even if there is I am not attending!!!" I pulled off my apron and began heading to the back door to get my things.

We usually dropped our bags at the back area and hung our aprons on an overly fancy hanger (Aileen chose it) by the back door.

Now, I am very sure that I had plugged my phone to the nearby socket. But it was gone, lost, vanished.

"Hello "I heard a voice from behind. GOD HELP THAT GREEN EYED BLONDIE.

"Yes its Aileen your sweetie pie," she had the audacity to smirk "yes....no it's not like that... don't I'm serious don't cut it..."

The idiot had probably forgotten the purpose of the call because she was just chatting about random things with my mom. If you were passing you'd think she was talking to her mom meanwhile her actual daughter would be thought of a bad vibe as I was staring daggers at her.

"It can't be that bad" Emma appeared again this time a few steps from me "Not everyone has time for parties, you know" she smiled sadly "plus you really need to cool off"

Parties actually did anything at all to me than cool off, and yes I have been to a party (I mean an actual party and not like a four year old's birthday party) but my point if I was to describe the effect of parties on me, it will be nostalgic, toxic nostalgic.

"Parties.... Whatever" I shrugged it off. Whether she would understand or not was not really my problem, it was explaining it to her that was, I was simply too tired for that "I'll think about it"

Ail returned my phone to me and I had to suppress the urge to ask if she actually had a reason for calling my mom

"Your mom said yes so that means you're coming over to my place with my brother's car and your driver will come over to pick yours" she paused for a bit as if trying to remember something "ooh! And the part is actually today"

She pulled out her phone and showed me a video of pizza boxes

"What is this? If you wanted pizza you could've just ordered some instead of downloading a whole video of its boxes"

She rolled her eyes "the behind the scenes of the party," I blankly stared at her " like marketing the party..." I still did not get it

"Whatever let's go"
