Imani

I looked at the familiar trees and road that led to her house. I was on edge as we got closer to her gates. My body was tense and filled with nerves. I didn't know what was going to happen in the next hour. I just hoped blood won't be spilled and this will remain peaceful.

We reached the gates and the man guarding looked at Mikhail. Depending on who it is there was always a code word, so I used mine. I was hoping that it would still work, but it would definitely raise alarms. We waited for a few moments and I shifted in my seat waiting anxiously.

The man had stepped back and the gates had opened. Mikhail drove in and I looked at Kazimir. He was already watching me, his face held no expression. I looked forward as the house got closer and my heart began to beat faster. I could feel it beating so aggressively in my chest, I can hear it in my ears.

I closed my eyes and I took a steady breath. I breathed in, then I exhaled. He reached for my hand and he squeezed my hand. I opened my eyes and I looked at him.

"It will be okay," he says.

"Mhm."

I looked at the large wooden white doors and they were open. She emerged from inside the house and I took another steady breath. She wore a plaid black summer dress and her hair straightened. Her brown skin glowed like it always did in the sun.

The car stopped right in front of her. Mikhail got out of the car first and Kazimir squeezed my hand one more time. Mikhail opened my door and I slid out of the seat, getting out of the car. I faced her and I didn't hold any resentment towards her. Yet seeing her was strange so close up.

Kazimir got out of the car and he stood next to me. He put his arm around my waist and her eyes traveled down to where his hand rested. She looks back up at us, her eyes darting between Kazimir and I.

"I thought you were smarter," she says.

"We need to talk."

"There is nothing for us to talk about. Take your Russian and leave."

She waves her hands at me and I know I should have planned this better. Expected her to reject me, but I won't back down so easily.

"Emilia, it's serious. We need to talk about it now," I said.

"Listen to me very carefully, you come near me again. I will kill you," she threatens.

"I would choose your words carefully," Kaz warns.

"You do not scare me Russian," she scoffs.

Before Kazimir can get annoyed with her, I stopped him. I just touched his arm and looked at him.

"Kaz, don't."

"What?" He grumbles.

I put my attention on her, but I still held Kazimir's arms. Using him as my anchor.

"I get it, you don't want me to be here. It's import-."

The sound of a child's laughter reached my ears and I found it strange that she had a child there. I looked back to the house, but I turned my attention back to her. I wonder who's child is. Did he have another child or was it hers?

My world slowly stopped turning as a little black girl came running out. She had two braids going down the side with pink beads at the end. Her hair was pulled back into one, with little criss crosses with colorful rubber bands. She had ran straight to Emilia laughing.

I watched the little girl and I furrowed my brows. She looked like him, but there was something else about her. Her lips were so similar to mine when I was younger, her nose was like mine, she had his eyes. She had Juan's eyes, but that was it. She was mine. There's no way she belonged to Armani.
