The fresh sea air hit her face sweetly and gently. May was at the site of her first Pokemon contest. This city carried a lot of memories for her. How long had it been since Drew exchanged his first insult to the brunette?
Drew
May never acknowledged her feelings towards her green haired rival, even to herself. She realized her feelings when Solidad told her Drew developed feelings for her back at the Kanto Grand Festival. Her insides felt like they were all dancing the congo.
That scared her. Sure, she loved all things romantic, but when it came to her and her grasshead rival? She was so scared of knocking down what they had been building in the 4 years they knew each other. They even travelled around Johto together with Solidad and Harley. She learned so much about him during that time. They built a beautiful shining friendship that at its surface, was still just two rival coordinators teasing each other and being generally competitive. Yet there was so much more than what many saw.
Looking at them, you wouldn't tell that he spent a night crying in her lap because his mother told her she was no longer welcome under his roof. You wouldn't know she cried after a huge argument they had in which he said after all their time together, he only considered her a decent rival. All you would see is two coordinators teasing each other and arguing like an old married couple.
May snapped out of her thoughts as she remembered why she was here at this beach. After getting off the ferry from Johto here in Slateport, she planned to go home to plan her next journey. However that plan was delayed just a little when Nurse Joy told her there was going to be a fireworks display tonight at the beach. Though she had no one to go with, she always loved fireworks and she wouldn't exactly turn down a lovely night at the beach.
Little does she know, a certain green haired coordinator was at the very same beach, lost in waves of nostalgia as he waited for the fireworks to start.
May was looking for a good place to view the fireworks and tears nearly formed at her eyes as she remembered all the times she shared with Drew. All the laughs, smiles, cries, and contests they shared in 4 years off knowing each other. She blushed a little at some of the memories, particularly when she asked him coyly if a rose she gave her was for Beautifly and he said "yeah something like that."
"May, is that really you?" called out a voice after May decided on an area close to the fireworks and near the sealine.
"Drew??!! Is that you? What are you doing here? I though you were going to Sinnoh after we left Johto?" May asked, excited to see her rival yet also confused.
"Nice to see you too Princess," he said, referencing her nickname which she was slightly embarrassed about.
"If you must know May, I decided to meet with some friends back home before I went to Sinnoh and when Nurse Joy told me there was a fireworks display at this beach, I couldn't miss it so I decided to visit them later this week and maybe just relax." Drew explained to her.
"Oh that makes sense, basically the same as me. I'm heading home tomorrow."
"This place hold a lot of memories, doesn't it May?" Drew said with a faraway look on his face.
"Yeah, I was thinking about that." May responded, hoping that she could contain the rising heat forming in her face. She also hoped some tiny part of Drew found the memories as sweet as she did.
"You know, you were hopeless back then" Drew reminisced with a genuine laugh "but I knew once I saw you in the contest, you were going to be a formidable force in the future. And now look at us. You beat me in both the Kanto and Johto Grand Festivals and we've grown so much."
