Dawn looked at the fancy, frilly eggshell white invitation. 

Who the hell am I going to invite

May had invited Dawn to a special exclusive ball for outstanding participants of the Johto Grand Festival, having won the Johto Grand Festival this year. Invitees were allowed two invitations. Dawn thought May was going Drew and Ash, but Drew was already invited so she invited Ash and Dawn instead. The invitation stated that the guests were to bring another plus one. Dawn wanted to invite Ash so they could have fun together with May, but Ash was already invited and was bringing Misty. Though Dawn was ecstatic that Ash finally got the guts to ask out Misty, she was stuck on who to invite as her own plus one. There was no one who she really wanted to.

Dawn shooed the intrusive thought from her mind, though she couldn't help the image of a certain Top Coordinator from coming to mind. She then finally gave in and picked up her Poketch, and scrolled to the bottom of her contacts list

She pressed on Zoey's contact and held her breath as she put the Poketch to her ear.

Zoey responded in 4 rings. 

Counting the rings now. Dawn, you're hopeless.

Dawn shook the intrusive thought yet again as she took a deep breath.

"Hey there Dee, what's up" Zoey's naturally cool voice came.

"Hey Zoey! How are ya" Dawn said almost unnaturally, hoping to Arceus her nerves weren't showing in her voice, because it sure as hell was showing on her face.

"I'm great! Just relaxing from the Hoenn Grand Festival. That Solidad gal was impossible. No wonder I lost to her."

"Yeah I barely made it to the top 16 with her around! The competitors in Hoenn are the best of the best!" Dawn said, recalling her most recent Grand Festival.

"Ya, like that incredible gal May, the Princess of Hoenn! I still can't believe we met her! And that we're friends with her! She really shows how great Coordinators from Hoenn are." Zoey fangirled over May. (A/N: PLEASE JUST PRETEND SOLIDAD IS FRO HOENN THX VERY MUCH)

"Speaking of her by the way Zoey, you saw she won the Johto Grand Festival right?" Dawn nervously inquired of her friend.

"Of course! That was one of the best finals I've seen in a while!" 

"Oh yeah it really was! Crazy to think that she's a Top Coordinator now!" Dawn exclaimed

"Yeah, but why do you ask?" Zoey asked curiously.

"Well uhhh so basically the Johto Contest Committee organizes a ball for the most elite, outstanding participants of the Grand Festival and of course May was invited along with like everyone who made it to the top 16 or something like that. And everyone gets to invite two guests and the guests have to bring a plus one. Basically they want it to be a big party of trainers and coordinators everywhere. So May invited Ash and me. And of course Ash is bringing his little Kanto girlfriend, so I was wondering if you wanted to go... with me? It's in a week by the way" Dawn blurted out, totally not having practiced it 12 times in front of the mirror.

"Wow, that's a lot Dawn. Of course I'd like to go with you though. I'm assuming it's formal wear right?" Zoey said cheerfully.

"Uh yeah, but honestly you can just bring your contest outfit. People outside of Sinnoh would consider that fancy clothes." Dawn informed her.

"Oh alright, thanks so much Dawn! I really appreciate you thinking of me!" Zoey said, the gratitude in her voice shining through, which Dawn found extremely endearing.
