Crystal Clear Heart (Redemptionshipping)

Kris trudged along in Viridian City, having just beat Blue, the gym leader. How like Kris, working hard, even on Christmas Eve. Blue saw how determined the girl was, reminding him scarily of himself and even more so, his illustrious rival. So, even though he was closing up the gym because of it being Christmas Eve, he let her have her gym battle with him. She crushed him, though while talking to her, he noticed how exhausted she looked. She must have not had a good rest in weeks, Blue noted, knowing very well the look of a trainer who had not given much thought to their well-being. He practically forced her to go to the Pokemon Center and relax until after the New Year. He told her he would check up on her everyday to make sure she listened to him. 

Kris appreciated the sentiment and secretly was glad of a good excuse to relax. However, now a new worry came to her mind, unrelated to training or the Pokedex. 

Silver.

She was well aware he had a pitiable family life and background, despite Silver's best efforts in concealing it from her. She learned about him from a Team Rocket executive, Proton. He talked about how foolish his boss' son was, trying to bring down his organization, how ungrateful he was. She connected the dots pretty quick, figuring that Silver was the boss' son as Proton told her that the boss was good for leaving his "good-for-nothing" son. In a fit of rage she completely destroyed Proton and all the other executives. During this, she met a certain red haired executive who looked startlingly like the very boy Proton was talking about. After Kris defeated her, she approached the redhead and asked her brusquely "Do you know Silver?"

The woman's face paled when Kris spoke her rival's name. 

"My son" she said quietly, her voice shaking.

"I thought so. You look remarkably like him." Kris said, a slight look of disgust on her face, figuring she abandoned Silver like his father did.

"I know what you must be thinking. But I didn't abandon him. I love him more than anything. When Giovanni, my husband and boss told me of his plans to leave after disbanding Team Rocket three years ago, I thought he would retire quietly and live with me and Silver in our home in Viridian. But the next day, he was gone, only leaving a note about how he was going on some stupid training thing or whatever. And he said to take care of the house. Not a word about our son. I cried so much that morning. I went to wake up Silver and break the news to him a few hours later, only to find yet another note, this time on Silver's bed. It said he knew what Giovanni did and was going to go off on his own training journey to become the greatest trainer, to make his dad and me proud. He was only seven. Since then, I've lived in that house with Archer, and its never been the same. Neither my husband nor my son have ever had any more contact with me. I take it you know Silver young lady?"

To say Kris was astounded was an understatement. It took her several moments to form words in her mouth after that revelation. 

"Uh yeah, I know him, he's like my rival" Kris spluttered out, still in shock.

"Well thank Arceus he's okay. That's all a mother wants for her son. But please young lady. Take care of him. A rival is the closest thing he's ever had to a friend. No doubt he considers you one. And please, if you can, get him to make any type of contact with me. Make sure he knows I love him. And take care of him." 

Ariana then quickly left, going to her office with tears in her eyes, leaving the blue haired girl still flabbergasted. 

That happened a few months ago. Kris sat as she thought of the fact that Silver had no one to be with or sit and talk and laugh with this holiday season. She desperately wanted to see him, just to be with him. Despite anything he would say or do, she still considered him one of her best friends, along with Ethan. Under his tough unbreakable exterior was a sensitive, funny boy. She only saw that part of him once- when she told him of her encounter with Ariana, the Team Rocket executive that happened to be his mother. He had cried when she told him everything Ariana told her. But after that, he was as stoic as ever, no doubt having sincerely regretted breaking in front of Kris, though a huge weight had been taken off his shoulders during that crying session with his rival.
