Oh when will she learn.

Harley smiled to himself, looking at the brunette following him like a dog behind him, a confused smile on her face.

"Harley, any chance this training area is close by, I'm getting really tired." May said cautiously.

"Oh its coming! Now Maybear, do me a favor and close your eyes. It needs to be a surprise!" Harley exclaimed energetically.

She did as she was told and Harley took her by her shoulders and directed her steps. This discombobulated her, confusing her sense of direction.

"And we're here! Surrrpriseee!" Harley shouted as May opened her eyes.

Her eyes widened as she realized she was on a rickety bridge, not the calming oasis Harley promised her.

"What is this?!" May screeched, clearly upset.

"Your surprise you little nugget! I told you it would be more of a training course for the Trainer than the Pokemon! And since your dear Pokemon are at the Center, you won't be able to use them to get out of this pickle. And even if you do manage to get off that bridge, you'll be hopelessly lost! Oh I've outdone myself now!" He laughed, a sadistic look on his face.

"Even you wouldn't do that! I'm getting off this bridge and following you, then I'm going to kill you!" May said ragefully.

She carefully took a step towards Harley, but the bridge swayed violently, the rope ripping more. May gasped and quickly stopped moving. There was a violent current below her, surrounded by jagged, dangerous rocks. She was definitely a goner if she fell.

"Oh my, seems like you need to lay off on the snacks Princess! And did you really think you could just follow me? Wigglytuff, come one out!" He said, sending out the Pink Pokemon.

"Now for our Grand Finale, Wigglytuff, teleport to the Center. May-baby, see you after the contest tomorrow!" Harley said with a villain like laugh as he teleported away.

"No way..." May said hopelessly sitting down gingerly on the bridge, her only hope now being that someone would notice she was missing or that maybe a wild Pokemon would help.

Of course it was his plan to get you out of the Contest, what did you expect? How many times are you going to let him take advantage of you?

May sadly reflected as she resigned herself to sitting on the bridge. She would think of a plan later, she thought to herself as tears started to fall thickly from her sapphire eyes.

Back at the Center, Ash, Brock, and Max enjoyed a meal together, thinking May was just out training in the place Harley said he'd take her to. At first, the boys had their suspicions about this, thinking he would lead her to a trap, but they relaxed and let him take her when he showed them a picture and maps of the place he was taking her. Besides, as Max and Brock pointed out, he had mellowed out a lot from his Hoenn days. Ash couldn't help but worry though. May was very easily taken advantage of, and she didn't have her Pokemon with her, something that worried him deeply. If she wasn't with her Pokemon though, she would return much sooner, since he was only showing her the training area, and she didn't have any Pokemon to train with.

All the same, Ash ate half-heartedly missing May, who miraculously matched his appetite and who he always laughed and joked with at meals. It was just.. empty without her.

"Ash, you alright? Are you feeling sick or something?" Brock asked, concerned.

"Yeah, normally you and May would've demolished Brock's stew faster than a Snorlax" Max  pointed out with a small laugh.

He quickly plastered on a smile and said "Yeah I'm fine! Just want to get back to training!"

Brock didn't look satisfied with this answer, but he didn't want to push him so he stayed silent.
