Billy Showalter x Reader !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A yawn escaped my lips as I patiently waited for the clock to strike 7:15am. I glared at the clock in front of me wishing that time would go by like a breeze, unfortunately it doesn't work that way. It was 6:45am and I was yawning left and right, both out of boredom and exhaustion. I hadn't gotten that much sleep the night prior and now I guess I was paying the price of that, I chuckled a little bit at my irresponsibility. I stood up from the couch that I was just recently sitting on comfortably, I figured I would just wait outside.

It was a cold morning and I immediately regretted my decisions as soon as the door closed and the cool wind nipped at my bare arms, saying I was uncomfortable was an understatement but I was already outside so there was no point in going back inside the comfort of my home. Another yawn escaped my lips as I waddled over to a chair sitting on my front porch. "Sweetheart, why are you outside at this godforsaken hour?"

My mother asked, peeking out of our front door to stare at my freezing figure. You could tell she was concerned by the way she stared at me, her eyes bored into my soul as if to force an honest answer out of me. "Mom, you know I wake up super early to wave at the paperboy."
I said with a tone to my voice. "Don't use that tone with me young lady! Anyways, just make sure you get to school on time."
She said, an exasperated sigh following quickly after. "You got it, mom."
I responded, "Wait, before you go, what time is it?"
I asked, turning to look at her. Her head disappears for a few seconds before popping out once more. "It's 7:10, hope you're ready to meet your 'Romeo'."
My mother teased, a cheeky grin on her face as she exited the scene. I rolled my eyes at my mom's antics before staring out into the street once more, scanning the area for those familiar brown locks of hair.

Before I knew it, the boy himself was riding down my street with a smile on his face, his dog running just barely behind at a fast pace. A smile is instantly brought to my face as soon as I see him. He throws the daily paper onto my neighbors' driveways as he rides past. When he gets to my house, he looks at me and smiles as he throws the paper. I catch it with ease and grin happily at him. Unfortunately for him, while he was looking at me he had accidentally run right into a mailbox. I quickly jump to my feet and rush to his aid. "Are you okay?"
I ask worriedly. He jumps up and his cheeks turn a crimson red as he stares bashfully down at the ground. "I'm fine,"
He mutters, refusing to make eye contact with me. His dog trots over to me and begins to sniff my legs excitedly. "Well hello there fella!"
I grinned, crouching down to be level with the retriever that had beautiful golden fur. I gently pat the top of the dog's head before standing up straight and looking at the paperboy. "I'm Billy,"He says, still avoiding eye contact. "I know,"

I chuckled, he glanced at me with a confused look on his face. "We go to the same school, did you not realize that?"
I question, inching slightly closer to him with a smile plastered on my face. He quietly replied with a simple 'Oh' before explaining that he should finish dropping off the papers. I didn't try to stop him or anything, I mean it was his job and I wasn't gonna stop him from doing it, so I waved him off with a smile. What a funny boy he was.

Later that day, I was walking to my 3rd period, Algebra. To say I was bad at algebra was an understatement. I was downright terrible at it. I couldn't make out a single mathematical equation with letters if my life depended on it. To be quite frank, I don't believe letters and numbers should be mixed at all. I mean seriously, who thought that it would be a good idea to merge letters and numbers together? Letters are for English and numbers are for math, that's how I see it at least.

Anyways, when I opened the door to my classroom I was met with a huge crowd of people, normally I tried to get to algebra earlier so that I could claim my seat, but it seemed like I had been running late today. The only open seat was next to, you guessed it, paperboy Billy. He gave me a shy smile. Before focusing on the board at the front of the class. As soon as I sat down my palms became clammy, I couldn't help it! This was the boy I had liked for god knows how long and I was sitting right next to him. Anyways, I couldn't really focus on what the teacher was telling us, I was way too absorbed in my own world to care much for it anyways.

Before you scold me, I know I should've been focusing on what we were learning but I just couldn't! It wasn't very smart of me to sit next to him when I already struggled enough with algebra but he was just another major distraction. Sooner or later he realized that I had my whole notebook filled with doodles instead of the formulas that we were being taught and he had to say something. "Hey,"
He whispered, it made me jump. His voice was soft and kind of shaky as he spoke to me. "Hi?"
I replied in a questioning tone. I was confused as to why he was talking to me, I mean it's not every day that you sit with your crush and they talk to you. "I noticed you weren't writing down the notes for today's class. He said in a quiet voice, I'm sure as to not draw attention to us. "Oh, yeah,"
I say hesitantly, hoping he doesn't get the wrong impression. I mean I wasn't a total dunce when it came to school, it's just that, again, algebra really wasn't my thing. I just couldn't wrap my head around it and it frustrated the hell out of me. "Do you want help?"
He asked me, not looking up to meet my gaze, though that may have been for the better since I'm sure my cheeks were flushed a crimson red at this point. "Erm, yeah, su-"
"Mrs. L/N, Mr. Showalter, do you both have something you'd like to share with the class?"
The teacher loudly asked, in that way teachers did when they wanted to embarrass you. Students turned to look at us which made me quite nervous if I was being honest. "Uh- N-no Miss."
Billy replied for the both of us, keeping his head hung low with a look of shame. The teacher gave a loud huff before turning back to the board and continuing the lesson. "Hey thanks for that. "I smiled at Billy with a look of relief in my eyes. "Yeah, it's no problem. Listen I don't wanna get called out in class again so how about you meet me at mine after school?"
He asked me, not even turning his head to look at me. I straightened my posture before clearing my throat quietly. "Yeah, that works."
I replied in a really quiet voice, hoping that we wouldn't be lectured in front of the class. I couldn't lie, I was quite excited. I mean, today was pretty good! This morning I spoke to him, I pet his dog, then I was put next to him in algebra, and now I'm going to his house after school so that he can help me out with schoolwork. If we hadn't been in a classroom, I"m sure I would've squealed out of sheer excitement.
