"Link!" came Zelda's voice. She sounded happy, not scared.
Link craned his neck, finding Zelda running for him. The door closed behind her. Now they were both trapped in this torture room. But at least she was with him, and appeared to be unharmed. That spread some relief over him, though they weren't near safe.
"Where are your clothes?" Zelda asked as she worked on the restraint on his right hand.
"The research wing," Link replied - the one thing he learned from Jenkins. He looked up at Zelda. She still had her dress, muddy and torn. Zelda herself was clean.
"Why would they be there?" The restraint came off, and Link pulled the sticky things from his temples. "What are those?"
Wishing he the answer, Link shrugged as he worked on freeing his left hand. When he did, he sat up, getting a little dizzy. He quickly shook it off, peeling the rest of the sticky things off his chest, working the cords out of the smock. He threw the thing on his index finger down to the floor, the only serface that wasn't a mirror. Zelda freed one ankle, then the other.
Link hopped off the table. He barely had time to get used to standing again before Zelda threw herself at him. He hugged her back, squeezing her a little. It was a highly inappropriate action for a knight to take with his princess, but Link didn't care. He held on to Zelda, glad she was safe. If anything had happened to her at all, he would have torn apart Jenkins the moment he laid eyes on him.
"How did you get here?" he whispered in Zelda's ear without letting go.
"I found Sheikah technology that makes portals," Zelda whispered back. Link was glad she understood these words needed to be shared between only them. "Then Mr. Poe brought me to you. He said you were hurt when you got here."
Zelda was talking about Poe Jenkins. By the sound of it, he was playing nice with her. But, if Link did get hurt, he could have easily healed himself with Mipha's Grace, a healing power gifted to him by a friend. He also had the powers of the other Champions - protection, updraft, and lightning. Jenkins was two-faced, and he knew how to play mind games.
Link hated that telling Zelda about his powers wouldn't be a good idea. Instead, he simply said, "He lied."
"I don't trust him."
"Good. If he asks, we just won a war going on for five years, you've been hiding with me for the last year." He hated the thought that they would be separated again, but he had to tell her this incase they were.
Link put an inch between, looking at her face. He knew it would be hard for Zelda to keep secrets and lie. She was just so good. Zelda was already doing well - she didn't give anything big away when Jenkins interrogated her.
Link's eyes strayed down, looking at Zelda's lips. He licked his. Link wanted so much to press his lips against hers, to tell her everything will be fine. But that would be inappropriate, and that would be a lie.
Link couldn't guarantee anything but protecting Zelda with his life.
