Zelda sat on the wall with Link, watching the stars shift in their constellations. The only thing better than this moment was the meal in her lap.
On her travels with Link, Zelda had left the cooking to him. He would always hand her the bigger portion of his mouth-watering food. Zelda constantly had to remind herself to keep her composure, or she would have scraps of food all over her face.
She smiled silently to herself and finished the meal, setting the bowl aside. Zelda gazed over at Link, watching him bring a spoonful of rice to his mouth. A small breeze pushed the mask away from his face, and Zelda's eyes latched onto his lips. The mask fell back in place too soon.
Zelda sighed with a mixture of content, but also want. She could have been caught up in this blissful moment for all of eternity, but unwanted thoughts made their way into her mind.
Poe was here, in Hyrule. He was locked away, but he was still a danger. The people he was "helping" were being tortured this very second. His followers were still working in the other world, and would continue without Poe. There had to be a way to stop him, but it was hard to see the outcome.
With a sigh, Zelda layed down on the wall, not caring how it was an inappropriate action for a princess to take. She folded her hands over her belly, watching the stars. She ment it when she said they were beautiful, but she was also talking about the person sitting next to her.
Zelda stiffened as Link slowly layed next to her. She looked over to him, though he was gazing at the night sky. His eyes slid, meating hers, before they snapped back foward. Zelda let herself relax, dropping her hands to her side. Her finger brushed the back of Link's hand and she took a sharp intake of air through her nose. His hand twitched. Zelda tentatively curled her fingers around his.
The moment was ruined when Terrako jumped onto the wall, startling Link enough for him to fall off. Terrako looked down at Link, making the best growl he could with his sound system.
"Are you okay?" Zelda asked, leaning over the edge.
Link got to his feet, dusting himself off. He nodded.
Zelda pulled back, glaring at Terrako for intruding on the bliss. She gathered the bowls and made her way down next to Link, blushing. She wanted to say something, but couldn't find the right words. Instead, she walked through the sleeping town back to the inn.
Zelda made her way down the hall, opening the door to her room. Terrako scurried around her, through the door. Zelda turned to look at Link, handing him his pouch of rupees.
"That's your room," she whispered, pointing to the door opposite her. Link nodded as he turned the handle. He was about to shut the door when Zelda said, "Link. . ." He faced her, the hallway between them. "Good night."
"Good night, Princess," he replied in his husky tone. Link closed the door.
Zelda was frozen in the doorframe, replaying the events from that night in her head. When she got to the present, she slowly shut her door, closing herself in this small room. She leaned against the rough wall, then slid down to the floor, letting her head fall back.
Zelda closed her eyes, Link's perfect blue ones staring back at her in her mind. Zelda opened her eyes, disappointed that he wasn't in the same room. She got up from the floor, then went to sit on the bed. As she walked through the room, the walls seemed to creep closer. Zelda shook her head, clearing it.
She layed her head on the soft pillow. The room flickered to white walls, white ceiling, and the white fire. Zelda jerked up, gasping for air. She turned to look at Terrako in the corner, but his sensor was black, signaling he was turned off.
Zelda took a few deep breaths, telling herself she was safe in Gerudo Town. When she closed her eyes, all she saw was black, not Poe's hideous smile. Zelda layed down again. Nothing happened.
She relaxed, spreading her arms out on the mattress. Zelda slowly closed her eyes, then opened them. She was back in that white room. She started to take short, shallow breaths when she couldn't lift her arms or legs. Zelda pulled against the imaginary restraints, but they shackled her. She knew she was in Gerudo Town, but it was all so real.
Zelda lost herself to hysterics, struggling against her own mind. Every time she closed her eyes, images of Poe or Link hurting or Poe hurting Link flashed through her head. Bile started rising in her throat.
"Help," she croaked, barely heard. "Link. Someone. Help."
