"Okay, you've got me here and alone," you say. "Mostly."

Your eyes meet. You remember that hazel, memorized all the stars in his eyes. Suresh smiles, softly, and keeps holding your gaze. You feel as if you're holding your breath.

It wasn't always like this, you remember. Things weren't always broken. There were nights out in Ibiza, walks through the bright Greek oceanside. Suresh wasn't always synonymous with pain.

You were both young, but he was older, and just older enough to whisk you off on the holidays. When his career began to take off, you joined him, opting to complete your classes online when you could. You made many a song on the road, full of warmth and love; it's an entire EP you can't even stand the thought of anymore, let alone perform the songs.

"I need a minute," says Suresh. He looks anxious. He always was anxious, and absolutely batshit good at hiding it. The confident facade slipped for no one, really, with one exception.

"Seeing you again like this," Suresh continues breathily. "My head is spinning."

"It was definitely a surprise to see you by the pool," you say softly.

Suresh grins for a moment.

"It was a surprise to be pushed," he says. "Thankful for the heat here. But I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, you know, the way we left things."

You pause.

"What are you doing here, Suresh?" you ask.

Suresh blinks.

"I could ask the same of you," he says. "I just sent in an audition tape. 27, from Edinburgh. You know."

"27 already," you say. "You're right old."

Suresh grins.

"It has been a while," he concedes. "I guess a lot can change in that time, you know."

"They do say men mature later than women," you smirk. "Apparently has something to do with your prefrontal cortex."

Suresh smirks, too.

"I swear it, though," he says. "I didn't know you'd be here until just before coming out. I don't know if the Producers know, but I didn't. I couldn't have made something like this happen... it's almost like I'm dreaming."

"Funnily enough," you say. "It was almost like a nightmare for a second, there."

Suresh shakes his head. He holds your gaze intently.

"Look," he says. "I know that I was to blame for what happened between us. That whatever we had, whatever adventure we were on, was destroyed because of what I chose to do."

You say nothing.

"I know that I messed up," he says. "But I can't help but feel like we're here, together, for a reason. Like fate's pulling the strings. I can give you space, if you want it. But I'd just love..."
