You and Alfie are on the bean bags as Kat storms across the garden, toward you.
"Are you serious?" calls Kat, and she towers over you both. You blink up at her and step away from Alfie, smiling loftily.
"Gosh, Kat," you sigh. "You can give it but can't take it. That's sad. I thought highly of you."
"Oh, shove it," snaps Kat. "Are you seriously grafting on each other where everyone can see you?"
"Is it grafting if we know everyone can see us?" you retort. "It's not like we're hiding in secret, catching songs by the gym equipment."
Kat's face flushes.
"I mean, you can't be serious," you continue. "You've damn near dropped to your knees in front of Finn, but Alfie can't catch a cheeky side hug."
Kat opens her mouth to say something, but you push on even harder. A crowd has begun to gather, and you catch Suresh hovering nearby, beside Dana. Dana glances at him and smiles sadly.
"I've gone farther with the girl who does my extensions than I have with Alfie," you snap. "Give it a rest, Kat."
"It was just some cheeky flirting," adds Alfie. "Meant nothing, Kat."
"Oh, shh," snaps Kat. "You both won't let me think."
"Not much thinking going on here in the first place," you argue.
"What happened to girl code, anyway?"
"You know what, Kat?" you sigh. "Fine. I'm sorry. I'm sure from your perspective, glancing over and seeing us literally just fucking hug, in literally the most platonic sense, was so upsetting. I'm sure Alfie, who has watched you leave a trail of drool behind Finn, is totally alright with this."
Alfie clears his throat and slides between you and Kat.
"It's calm," he says, putting his hands on Kat's shoulders. "It's calm. Come on, Kat. Let's have a private chat. We'll sort this between us. Please?"
Kat glances at you begrudgingly.
"Fine," she says. "To be continued."
Kat reluctantly allows Alfie to escort her to the swing. You exhale. Dana hurries over to you.
"She's a lot," Dana exhales. "You okay?"
"Peachy. But if she's out to cause drama, I won't back down."
"She's in the wrong," says Dana decidedly. "And you even tried to be nice and apologize."
You laugh.
"I wouldn't call that a really great apology, in Kat's defense."
You see Kat glaring at you from across the garden.
