Raed went with Ravi to the lab, where they found Roesia wearing her pink lab coat and busy making potions as usual. She was so focused, he felt bad for trying to interrupt. He would have saved it for another day, but Roesia did not seem to take any day off, as if she was trying to run away from something and so hid in that pink lab.
"Roesia, can we talk... for five minutes?" he asked.
"Now? I'm working right now," she replied. "Is it important?"
"Just go and take a break, I can take care of everything in here," Ravi said.
"Oh! If that's so, ok," Roesia said and took off her lab coat, revealing a pale pink dress with quite a voluminous skirt.
They went to the living room, where they sat on the pink velvet couches. Benjamin was there cleaning himself, but immediately got up and started rubbing himself against Roesia's legs. She caught him and put the cat on her lap to pet him.
"So, what is it? Are you having any problems? Oh! Are you nervous about the exam results? I'm sure you're going to be fine. You were... pretty ready," Roesia said.
"Well, yes, I am worried about that, but that's not why I wanted to talk to you. It's about Regia and... living as a vampire. She told me you didn't consume blood and that you still can be saved," Raed said.
"Oh... Well, yes, but I don't want that for me. I prefer to stay here with them," she replied.
"But why? Don't you miss your family? Regia misses her mom and dad a lot."
Suddenly, her eyes became watery. She did not cry, but didn't look at him in the eye. "Yes, I know. I miss them a lot too. But my sister... doesn't have a lot of people left. It's just us and God only knows what could happen. We have so many enemies. She doesn't trust people easily and so she refused to love anyone for a thousand years."
"What do you mean? She never had anyone?" Raed asked, perplexed.
"Uhm... Not that I know of. When she was still alive, she used to like someone, but then the massacre happened and she was turned into a vampire, so nothing came of it," Roesia replied.
"That massacre that you guys speak so much of, wa..."
"I... don't want to talk about it. I'm sorry."
"No, it's fine. She doesn't want to love me, because she is afraid I will refuse salvation like you. Is that salvation really worth it? I mean, you prefer to be here, instead of... going to the other side," Raed said.
Roesia did not like his words at all and frowned at him. "Of course it is worth it! For you, even more. You have only been a vampire for a couple of weeks. If you are saved, you can still enjoy life with your family and live like all of this never happened," Roesia said.
"What if you never find that cure?" he asked.
"It is out there. If it wasn't, Leontine wouldn't be... like she is," Roesia said, which left him even more confused.
"Leontine? What does she have to do with this?"
"All of this must sound really confusing to you, doesn't it? Let me try to explain... I don't even know where to start... Well... You see, there are more supernatural beings in this world aside from vampires. There are three groups and each one has a different origin. Vampires come from dragons, they are our origin. We are the guardians of blood. Our blood continuously flows without the need for a beating heart. Sylphs come from unicorns and Seraphines come from raileons. For our cure, we need a unicorn or a sylph, since they are the guardians of souls. Raileons and seraphines are responsible for life, they are the guardians of the heart. A thousand years ago, right after the massacre, Leontine pleaded to a raileon and he allowed her to give her heart to a dying sylph. That's how we know he is still out there, because if he had died, she would have vanished too."
