Chapter 13

Steve's P.O.V
I watched Eddie climb into the pool, El telling him the process as he sat on the ladder, breathing deeply. He nodded, he put on the goggles and continued to descend into the pool, floating on the surface of the water. I was biting my nails, feeling nervous as he floated there, his breathing slow and deep. His long hair floated around his shoulders, I noticed his claws slowly emerging, ears slowly pointed and his fangs slowly grew. "Somethings wrong. How come he's starting to shift?" Mike said, a slight panic in his voice. "It is ok, I do not think it's a bad thing, I think it is just his supernatural connections working to find Dustin." El analysed. I sighed a little in relief. "Steve do you hear that?" Robin asked me. I listened hard and nodded in agreement. We heard Eddie muttering a couple of words very quietly underneath his breath, only those with enhanced hearing could hear.

"Well what's he saying?" Max asked impatiently. "He said a string of words, they don't make sense to me, but he said 'black void.'? What does that even mean?" I said confused. Elevens expression grew hopeful. "That's good, it means he's made it to the connection, all he needs to do now is find him." She said, a slight joy in her voice. I grew hopeful, maybe Eddie was right! He could find Dustin! "Eddie! It's me, just try to see if you can see Henderson." I said carefully. He softly and slowly nodded, the air grew silent again. He started to mumble under his breath again, the words shaking me to my very core. "He-he's poking at the gate at my trailer, it's like it's closed." We all shared a collective face of fear. "Ok I heard it that time, did Vecna close the gates off to the upside down? Even if he did why in the fuck would he do that?" Will said worried. "I don't know but all we know is that it is not a good thing. We have to go get Dustin right now." I declared. Everyone nodded in agreement. Although before we left Eddie said something else. "He's not at the gate anymore. I think...I think Vecna got him."

All of our fears started to grow even further, mine especially. "What do you mean Vecna got him? Like is he possessed or what?!" I said in a panic. Eddie slowly shook his head. "He's still conscious so he's not possessed but he's not at the gate anymore, he's been taken by Vecna." He softly said, sadness filled his words. "Vecna kidnapped him and he's probably betting on you and Eddie to save him. Alone." Nancy said softly. "No we need all the help we need!" I argued. "Come on Steve please, you need to know it's up to the both of you now. We can try and help you here. Just get Eddie and go save Dustin." Robin encouraged. The others nodded in agreement. I couldn't help but smile. I gently shook Eddie and he took the googles off, I noticed his eyes were glowing a crimson red hue, he quickly shook his head and closed his eyes. After opening them they were their normal chocolate caramel colour, his fangs and claws already gone, and his ears returned to normal too. "You heard em Stevie, let's go rescue the kid, yet again." Eddie said stepping out of the pool. I nodded determined and turned to the others. "We'll be ok Steve, go save Dustin, we'll be here on standby. Anything goes wrong you'll find a way to contact us." Nancy reassured us. We both nodded and took off for the nearest gate: watergate

As we approached the lake we made no hesitation and Eddie flew us over to the area of the gate. "Just a quick question? Why did we chose to break into this gate if the gates are closed?" I asked Eddie confused. "Only because my uncle is probably still at the trailer and plus, we need the element of surprise." He said. I nodded. He flew us closer to the water. "Alright, I'm gonna try to propel us as close to the gate as possible but if I can't go any further the currents are going against my wings, once that happens we need to try and use as much as our strength to break the gate open. Got it?" He planned. I nodded, taking in a deep breath and holding it. I heard Eddie do the same and shot us through the water. As we got deeper he slowed down, trying to flap his wings but it kept moving us up and down is awkward motions. Once we made it close enough he stopped all together, willed his wings away and motioned towards the gate. I nodded and we swam closer towards it. I shifted and brought three fingers up. Eddie nodded in understanding. 'Three' I put one finger down. 'Two' I put down the second finger. 'One' I put down the last finger, eddie and I swam furiously into the gate, hoping to jam it open. Once we jammed our shoulders against the portal it tore open, making us tumble into the upside down.

We fell on our backs, catching our breaths and breathing heavily. The vines beside us moving at a deathly slow pace. I turned my head to see Eddie standing up and offering me a hand. "Come on Stevie boy, let's go rescue our son." He said in a serious tone. I almost laughed at him calling Henderson our son. I grabbed his hand and stood up. As we stood there a herd of demodogs and a flock of demobats were slowly approaching us. I saw Eddie close his eyes, his wings and tail appeared, all of the demobats surrounded him. Once he opened his eyes they were all perched on him, like his pets. "You will serve me now, serve under my control to rescue our friend. Is that understood." He said in a dark tone, all of the bats obeyed him, nodding their heads in sync. I watched in amazement as they flew so close to him, an entire swarm of them just surrounded him.

I couldn't help but think about his death, the exact same thing happened, but instead of them eating him they treated him like their master. I had to resist the erge to kill all of them at once. I saw the pack of demodogs surround around me, I snarled at them all, they stopped all together and stood by my side. I shot a confused look at Eddie, he only laughed. "I guess you have your own army now too big boy." He said proudly. I smiled and went to pet some of them, they compiled and allowed me to pet them. Then I saw one that looked familiar. "No way, is that you dart?!" I said, slight joy in my voice. Eddie shot me a confused look. "Who's dart?" A demodog ran up to me, opening his face in greeting, showcasing his rows of fangs. I lightly laughed. "This, this is dart! I thought he got killed but he must've survived. Now dart, we need you and your buddies here to help us, we need to rescue Dustin. Your old owner. Can you help?" I asked the demodog. He nodded his head and screeched to his gang, they all screeched in response and surrounded me again. Eddie smiled. "Looks like we're good. Let's go Ozzy." He said to a demobat on his shoulder, the demobat screeched in response, making Eddie laugh. "Ozzy?" I asked confused. "Yeah, ya know, named after ozzy osborne? I don't wanna do this talk again Steve." He sarcastically stated. I only laughed and shook my head. "Lets go save Dustin." I said, I shifted into a wolf, then Eddie made his way onto my back, his wings still out. Then one of the demobats handed Eddie a makeshift shield and spear. I smiled in recognition, Eddie doing the same. "These were the weapons I died with. Thanks Ozzy, now let's go Steve. We don't have any time to lose." He said. I nodded my wolfy head and raced off, the bats and dogs following us. We will save you Dustin, just wait a little bit longer. We're coming for you.
