Ayla

"You fucking whore!"

I heard her body hit the ground, I flinched.

I watched Alex quietly shut the door, knowing too well what would happen if he had slammed it.

"Alex-" I called his name.

"Shhh, it's ok. Look, I wanted to show you what I bought yesterday." He pulled a book from his bag.

We finished our other book about two days ago and I've been waiting for him to get a new one.

I flinched again, looking at the door when I heard a scream.

The arguing only getting louder.

"Look, Look here. This one's about a girl who goes an adventure, I know you like these ones. She travels somewhere completely perfect and makes friends along the way."

He wiped my tears with his thumbs and grabbed my stuffed bear from the end of the bed.

"Let's start it, okay?"

I nodded, curling into his side as he read the first few words.

"It was a windy day, the clouds were grey and..."

I drowned out the loud voices of their arguing with Alex's soft voice. His attempt to overpower the noise.

I let out a shaky breath, keeping my bear to my side with two arms around Alex's large arm. Leaning my head on his side.

"That's when she noticed the twister approaching her home..."

"Ayla!"

"Yeah?" I snapped out of my daze.

"We're here." Noah spoke calmly, I turned my head looking at the area. It was so village like, the pathway through houses so narrow as high three story balconies faced adjacent to each other.

"Wow." I beamed.

"You like it?" Noah asked, taking my hand as he helped me out of the car.

"It's beautiful, you used to live here?" I turned to Matteo and asked.

"Yes." He spoke, getting our suitcases from the trunk.

I watched the front door of the orange building open when an older lady ran out.

"Ah! Matteo! You're Home!" She ran to her son when his lips curled into a soft smile, bending down to hug her.

"Ah, mamma." He tucked his face into her shoulder. I could see his genuine smile, his happiness.

He let him go and walked up to Noah.

"Noah." She kissed his face as he groaned.

"Hi, nonna."

"And who's this, bellissima?"

I smiled at her, rubbing my hot palms together.
