A/N: Little bit of ED mentioning here, but it's nothing extremely explicit.
As dawn breaks through the trees, Eva is already awake. Through the night she kept awaking, her dreams too much to bear with. Sipping a cold tea that she brewed hours prior, Evangeline drowsily scanned outside her window. The trees glistened with the morning's dew, sparkling like jade crystals. She wished her eyes looked as vibrant as the ferns outside. They looked fresh, unscathed, pretty. She saw her own eyes as dull, a similar concoction of green and amber flecks, but the life in them dilapidated.
Already dressed and presentable for Monday's hellish school day, Eva took her time searching the house for anything good to read.
Faye has an amalgam of books, some read, others bought in hopes of opening one day. Eva spotted Hamlet amongst the shelves, suddenly absorbed by its flaky cover. Pre-loved, she would say. Grasping it in her delicate hands, she goes to place it in her bag to read in her free period. Not like she was looking to socialise all day without an hour's respite.
Lost in her own thoughts, wrapped in blankets on the couch, Eva was jolted out of her stupor by a roar of an engine coming up the road. In the midst of waving goodbye to her aunt and grabbing her bag, a light knocking resounded from the door.
Jasper Hale was stood on the porch waiting to carry Eve's bag. Faye saw his timid smile as he greeted the girl; he seemed sweet. Not as hot as his adoptive father, but good enough for a girl like her Evangeline. Ever the gentleman, Jasper introduced himself to Faye. Manners too, nice Faye remarked.
"Pleasure to meet you ma'am. I'm Jasper Hale, I've come to give Miss Evangeline a ride to school if that's alright with you?" Stood with his back straight, shoulders square. If someone were to guess the boy seemed almost like he was awaiting orders, like a soldier. Or he was just nervous. Probably the latter.
Waving off his words, Faye replied, "Well Jasper I think that's all fine with me. No ma'am. You're making me feel like I should go into a retirement home! Have a good day at school you two, off you go."
Practically being shimmied out of the home, Eva and Jasper make their way to his spotless black Audi. As the human's hand reached for the handle to her door, a pale one shot out and beat her to it. Jasper, pleased with himself for being so chivalrous, let her in with a smirk that could beat the devil's. Huffing at his cockiness, she lowered herself in.
Driving in comfortable silence most of the journey, Jasper recognised the brown fabric drowning Eve. His jacket. With eyes on the road, he raised his eyebrow and tapped the girl's wrist.
"I like this coat you have on there, Evangeline. Wherever did'ya get it?"
Dannazione, quel bastardo arrogante (damn, that arrogant bastard). Evangeline grabbed the first coat she saw that morning, too consumed in her head to notice it was his.
