Chapter 20 - The Big Reveal
*****

Fortune lay in her bed, staring at the three letters from her mother to her and the twins.

Three years before she was even born, her mother had known.

John Merrill.

"Ready to get up and started?"

Her mind snapped from it's trance as she looked up and saw Hunter standing at the end of her bed.

"What do you think mum meant?" She asked as she sat up and gestured down at the letters.

Hunter shrugged. "Same as always, it's him."

"Yeah but what's him? He has a girlfriend still and I couldn't find him anywhere yesterday."

Hunter shrugged once more as he sat down at the end of her bed.

"Mum always had a strange way of knowing when things would fall into place."

Fortune nodded. "I wish she was still here..." Her weak voice whispered out.

"She could tell me what she meant."

Hunter shook his head. "You know even if she was still alive, she wouldn't."

Fortune scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Everything happens for a reason Fortune." She mimicked.

Hunter laughed and nodded. "Sometimes things take a little longer to work themselves out, that's all."

"You really sure this is what you want?" He asked again. "You don't have to go you know?"

Fortune nodded. "Hunts, all I've ever wanted is a home. I thought I had found it with the Barnes brothers then Ace but it's just not here."

Hunter sighed. "Not even with me and Hayds?"

Fortune sighed. "It's different with you two."

"You know when I went through my phrase of not wanting to move around everywhere and just settle, mum told me home wasn't a place, it was a person." Hunter explained.

Fortune sighed. "I haven't found that yet."

Hunter raised his eyebrow. "Oh I think you have, you're just in denial."

Fortune scoffed. "Yeah because my home is with Ace fucking Merrill, alongside his other girlfriend." She retorted sarcastically.
