Our departure from the estate was nothing to gawk at, even though the two higher rankings were leaving to go away for who knows how long just some captains stood to bid farewell their departure. I sigh at the thought as I see my adorable little Chizuru come up with Heiske as my mood shifts a complete 180.

"Safe travels Mai, please be safe." She says as she gives me a warm bundle of onigiri and hugs me. I stood frozen at the gesture, still shocked that she hugged me. I snap out of my haze and immediately hug her back as if I've lacked human interaction in years. I smile at her and the little present so gave me, 'she's like the little sister I've never had.'

She pulls away from the hug and smiles at me sweetly but also has a slight sad frown on her face, "Don't worry sweetie, I'll be back before you know it! Make sure you sleep and eat well! No skipping meals!!" I say as I poke her brow that's perturbing.

"O-okay..will do." She says stuttering slightly but still nonetheless let's go of me. I look at the captains and see Okita and Harada both looking at me with indifferent expressions, 'heh I cockblocked you both...and your sulking now, cute.' I smile at them both as if this morning never happened and then turn towards Saito, Shinpachi and Heiske completely ignoring the other two, "make sure you take good care of my Chizuru! Don't let her feel lonely!" I say as she laughs and hits my arm in a playful aura.

"Of course!" Heiske announces cheerfully as he wraps his arm around Chizuru and Saito and Shinpachi nods.

"We'll be on our way now, Mairin let's go." Hijikata announces as he grabs my sleeve and tugs it to make note of his impatience. I sigh and look at them all and wave before turning towards the two vice commanders as they begin to walk off.

'This will be an interesting trip.'

I hum as I waltz leisurely behind the two vice commanders as they both sternly keep alert as we walk through the woods. I giggle at the view of them being so cautious, 'trust me boys if someone was following or watching us, I would know.' I think as I laugh at the thought.

Hijikata looks back at me, slightly annoyed how carefree I can be presumedly. I give him a smile as he grumbles, "Keep acting like that and your asking to be ambushed by ronin."

"Hmm? Okay! You don't think I can take care of myself?" I say laughing at his threat completely brushing it off.

"Not that I don't believe the other captains, I for one don't believe in your skills with a sword. You should just stay in the kitchen." Sanan briefly takes word in the little faith he has in me. My brow twitches at the last comment but I brush it off as it is normal for women in this time period to be the housewife's.

"I'd have kept that comment to yourself Sanan-sann~, maybe I will save your life on this little trip." I comment as he chuckles, "as if that would ever happen."

After several hours walking, and my ankles screaming due to not being used to walking with sandals long distances, we reach a small shop that Hijikata and Sanan decide to take a break in. I happily follow as my feet are screaming.
