Four weeks later...
"I'm asking Sienna to marry me," I say to my dad, who swallows his gulp of beer wrong and ends up spitting it everywhere.
Grabbing a napkin, he covers his mouth to cough into before jumping off the bar stool to round the table and grab me into a hug. He grips me tight, cupping the back of my head to hold me into the embrace, totally on board with it.
"I'm stuck on whether I should tell her mum or not. They're closer now, but the relationship could be better. Ideally, I'd want to ask for her hand in marriage, but I don't respect her enough to care too," I say as he pulls away, touching my shoulder again.
Then he's walking back to his seat. "I don't think you need to involve her, Beau. Honestly, I don't. They're working on things, which is great, but unfortunately, Paulina's selfishness will only end up getting in the way. We know she will make it about her, and that's not what you want."
Even after the joint therapy sessions, they're still struggling to find common ground on things. Sienna is pleased to be working those issues out, but in the same breath, she isn't hopeful they will meet at a happy ending any time soon.
Building their relationship is going to take time. It's going to take a lot of work.
I turn the beer mat around in my hands. "You're right. I want to do right by Sienna, that's all."
"I know you do." The look on his face. He's proud as fucking punch. "So, what's the plan? Do you have a ring?"
It's wild how nervous I feel, considering we're as solid as ever. She could say no. Could tell me she's not ready for such a commitment, but deep down, I know that isn't the truth. We're prepared for this next step. We are making everything official.
I take a sip of my ale as I nod. "Yes. I commissioned it."
That, he likes as his lips tip up wider. "Only way to do it. Do you have a picture?"
"Yeah, one sec," I say, pulling my phone out of my pocket to show him the picture of the white gold aquamarine ring. "I specifically chose that gemstone because March is her birthday."
He uses his fingers to zoom into the picture, appreciating it just like I knew he would. "Never seen one like that before. It's perfect."
"It's pretty big, but I wanted it that way," I reply, putting my phone back in my pocket. "Not to go all caveman, but she's mine, and I need the world to know it."
He laughs. "I get it. I do. So, when's it happening? Where?"
I want the proposal to be simple yet romantic. Us. " I want a Begoda on the beach, flowers leading up to it with a dining table for two. I hired a chef who's going to cook for us on the beach and a violinist."
He rubs his hands together, resting them on the tabletop when he leans forward. "That will be all her dreams come true."
I know it will.
