Hi guys, sorry for the long wait, I've been on vacation and I really needed to take a break for a while. Also I may have gotten obsessed with LiveALive. Sorry about that.
I own nothing.
Chapter 40: Fall

(Y/N) reloaded his gauntlets with several rounds in preparation for their departure. Usually, he'd rely on fire and gravity shots, but for this particular mission, his usual element would be swapped for lighting dust. He'd need every bit of it if he was gonna be any help against Ironwood. While Team RWBY had voiced their opinions about wanting him with them, namely due to his recent kidnapping, the prime opportunity to deck Ironwood in the face and pay him back for that little spat in the Vault room was too tempting for the dragon to pass up. As he was loading up, he felt a presence behind him. Turning, he saw Whitley standing in the doorway. Despite Weiss seemingly coming to an understanding with her little brother, he and (Y/N) still had a hostility between them.
"They need you." He said.
(Y/N) nodded stiffly as they made their way out. Their footsteps echoed uncomfortably in the empty halls as they slowly made their way out.
(Y/N) huffed. "Considering I'm about to walk into a war zone, if you have something to say to me, now's the time."
Whitley gritted his teeth, the palpable annoyance becoming worse.
The younger boy sighed. "She wasn't trying to replace you. It just...happened."
"Really? She took the role of sibling far quicker than she ever did with me."
"Yeah, because I was a half starved, beaten, lab rat, too scared to even look at the world. You'd have pity me too." Whitley huffed as (Y/N) crossed his arms. "Look, just...talk to her. I find bottling things up only ends poorly for people."
Whitley nodded, the only indication he was listening, as they arrived outside. Just as he ran to join the group, he glanced back at the older male, Willow just in their peripherals.
"I might be overstepping, but maybe it isn't just Weiss you should talk to."
(Timeskip)
Dock of the ship was silent as team A headed to meet Ironwood at the academy. (Y/N) was more than ready for the rematch. Still, his eager behavior didn't go unnoticed.
"(Y/N)." Emerald said. "You okay?"
He smiled. "Aw, you do care." She gave him a look as he held up his hands. "Don't worry. I'm fine."
"Don't let your own thoughts run wild." Ren warned. "(Y/N), we understand how feel, but-,"
"I'll be fine." He insisted. "I'm mad at him, not stupid."
Ren nodded as Jaune and Nora hugged him from both sides.
Oscar smiled at the scene before glancing out the window. "We're in range. Emerald, you're up."
She nodded as Ren placed a hand on her shoulder, boosting her illusion semblance as the courtyard, and more importantly Ironwood, came into view. The ship landed as softly as possible, Ironwood none the wiser to the trick. Bolting out as fast as possible, Emerald ran to get into position as Ironwood trained a massive gun on her and Winter held out her sword.
"I didn't think you'd actually come alone." The general greeted as he handed gravity bolas to Winter. "I expected at least some resistance from your friends."
"I don't want anyone else to die." Emerald, disguised as Penny, responded as Winter tied up her hands. "I must open the Vault."
As Winter backed away and drew her sword again, Ironwood dropped his weapon and approached, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"You've...done the right thing."
"I have." Emerald snarked, dropping the illusion with a smirk. "Feels weird."
Before the general could react, Emerald flipped back, kicking him under the chin, grabbed his weapon which went flying, and vanished. Ironwood didn't have much time to dwell on that as (Y/N) wasted no time, jumping into the air and sucker punching him in the face. Ironwood matched a follow up punch with his own, but the nimble boy backed up, making an opening for Jaune to use the gravity blast on his shield. This in turn let Oscar get in a few blows with the cane, though (Y/N) did pull him back after Ironwood followed up with several nasty punches, let Ren grapple Ironwood's ankle with Storm Flower and pull him in. As he distracted the general for a moment, Winter and (Y/N) both powered up Nora through her semblance, and unleashed her when Ren was knocked away. The swing of her hammer perfectly lined up Ironwood to be smashed into the ground by the dragon boy, who reinforced the strike with more light Dust. Ironwood spun with his leg, grazing (Y/N) who sprung back and growled.
"Not at your best today, Ironwood?" He taunted.
The general snarled, about to charge when he heard heavy thumps behind him. Winter and Oscar, atop her Manticore summon, charged him. Ironwood took the summon by the horns, sending the two into the air. As he threw the summon away, Winter shot shards of ice at him back, and bounced Oscar right back into the fight using a gravity glyph. The farm boy laid into their opponent, landing a flurry of strikes which made Ironwood's Aura flicker. Seeing this, (Y/N) locked his gauntlets together and prepped a final blow with more lightning Dust. As Ironwood grabbed the cane and prepared to deck Oscar, Winter rushed in, striking with a powerful blow so fast, no one could make out what had happened. At that moment, (Y/N) fired his enhanced shot, sending the general tumbling as his Aura broke and he collapsed.
He huffed a laugh as he unlocked his weapons and Emerald reappeared. Winter took the general's weapon, unlocked the bola, and turned to the older kids.
"Go, move to phase two."
They all nodded and ran inside.
"The communication center shouldn't be far from here." Jaune said.
They all ran quickly until finally coming to the main communication hub. (Y/N) quickly hooked up his scroll, letting Ciel, who thank the gods called back to confirm everyone was safe, remotely access the port and get their message out.
"Shouldn't it be working already?" Jaune asked as (Y/N) rolled her eyes.
"Give her a second. She has to do this from a scroll!"
"Still but-," Jaune shut up as the feed beeped. "This should be...um...that did...something?"
"You're live." Ren pointed out.
"Everyone can see you." Yang added.
Jaune yelped before trying to recompose himself. "Um, citizens of Atlas, Mantle, what we have to tell you is very important. Atlas is falling, but-," All of a sudden, the video cut off. "Um, what happened?!"
"Ciel, what's happening!?" (Y/N) asked, only for a sharp buzzing noise to fill the air. He growled. "The line's down."
"The CCT, it just went dead." Ren announced.
Nora held up her phone. "And Kingdom wide communication. How!?"
"The bigger question is, what do we do now?" Oscar asked.
Everyone looked at each other, unsure of what to do. Just then, a strange door appeared from thin air. (Y/N) could only guess what it was. Rolling his shoulders, he started walking towards it.
"Guess we do this the long way."
The older kids understood and followed him through the gate. The world on the other side was an endless void, only illuminated by the golden archways connecting the appearing gates. Glancing over the edge, (Y/N) found himself suddenly grateful he could fly.
"Okay, we can do this." Jaune said. "Nora, (Y/N), and I will get people through the gates. Everyone else, stick to your rolls. Remember, the evacuation is priority one, no matter what else happens."
"You sure you won't need more help?" Ren asked.
"Shade is armed to the teeth with Huntsmen and Huntresses, but we're about to throw a Kingdom's worth of negativity at their doorstep. If anyone will need help, it's them."
Ren nodded as he set out on the path. (Y/N) flew up.
"I'll handle the farther gates."
The older kids nodded, setting out. (Y/N) flew through the gate furthest from their starting point. As he exited, he felt a blast of icy wind. Glancing around, he barely recognized the ruins of Amity, parts crumbling or on fire. He sniffed the air, trying to locate survivors, when he saw two familiar faces huddled nearby.
"Maria! Pietro!"
He ran over to them. They were worse for wear, but alive, Pietro even tinkering with his chair.
"Well I'm glad we weren't forgotten about." Maria snarked as she and the scientist worked.
Pietro was more welcome. "You're a sight for sore eyes, son."
He knelt down. "Sorry it took so long. It's been a crazy time, and it's only gonna get weird. That gate over there is gonna get us to Vacuo. Can you move, Pietro?"
"Almost, but that leg there needs to be welded in. No luck so far."
(Y/N) grinned. "Well, good thing I'm the one who came through. Stay back and cover your eyes."
(Y/N) concentrated his fire breath, trying his best to weld the broken metal back together. It was sloppy really, but it seemed to work. When it was closed, he turned to the scientist.
"How's that?"
Pietro input the commands and the chair comes to life, janky and limping almost, but working.
"Well done, my boy." Maria said, patting him on the back.
He motioned towards the door. "Come on, let's get out of here."
The elderly pair followed him, arriving in the other world. Waves of people were already coming through, but some gates were still unoccupied.
The boy looked at Maria. "Get to the main gate. I have to make sure people get through."
"By yourself!?" Pietro sounded very concerned.
"I'll be fine. Just look out for yourselves."
Before they could argue, he took off. One by one, (Y/N) got people to start moving. Some had to be convinced more than others, but he managed. Eventually, he ended up in one gate that took him back into Atlas Academy.
"Must be some staff straggling."
He glanced around, finding the place pretty empty. Tilting his head up, he sniffed, trying to see if anyone was nearby. He froze as the stench of mustache oil and the tiniest bit of gin hit his nose. It was the exact description Emerald had given him of a certain someone. Turning the corner, he saw a lone man sitting in a control room, gleefully setting a bunch of robots loose on the streets of Atlas. Even through the bruising, (Y/N) recognized the face from the files he and Ciel had gone through, Dr Arthur Watts. Quickly, he cocked his weapon, making the disgraced scientist freeze.
"Put down your hands, or I'll beat your head into the computer until it breaks." The boy threatened.
Watts scoffed, but did as he was told. "Until the computer breaks, or my head?"
(Y/N) walked into his field of view, weapon still trained on the enemy. "I'm not really picky. Either way, I can't let you play your little games anymore, Arthur Watts. So." He blasted a lightning shot at the computer, frying it in an instant.
Watts feigned indifference, but (Y/N) could sense frustration and nervousness in the doctor. Without his technology, Watts wasn't exactly threatening. Still, he kept up the facade, his pride refusing to be intimidated by a child.
"You know my name, and judging by your...species, I know yours. The dragon Her Grace has shown great interest in."
"She and I already had a pleasant talk, so if you want scare me by saying she's hunting me, you're more than a couple months too late."
"My my, what a sharp tongue for such a small boy."
(Y/N) cracked his knuckles. "A small boy who could break every bone in your body and burn everything left over."
Watts chuckled. "You know, I'm starting to believe you have a particular hatred for me. Though I struggle to understand why. Perhaps if I were Tyrian or Cinder, but we've never had the pleasure of meeting."
"Don't worry, I'll give you a hint." The boy slammed his fist into the man's face, sending him flying into the wall.
Watts gasped for breath as (Y/N) marched over to him and hauled him to his knee by the collar of his shirt.
"That was for Ciel and Dr Soleil! Remember her?"
Watts snarled. "As if I could forget the name of the wretch who ruined my life's work! What's it to you?"
(Y/N) slammed him into the wall. "You still don't get it? All right, one more." Holding up Watts with one arm, he pulled back his sleeves. "Project Achilles! Get the picture, now?"
Watts blinked and he finally understood. "So that's it then. We all wondered why you...developed the way you did, but I never dream my own work was responsible. Seems the other were more devoted to science than I gave them credit for."
"Devoted!?" (Y/N) kneed him the gut and threw him across the room. "They tortured us! Killed us! You saw the first batch die, but you just tried it on kids! Four years! Four years I was in that hell!"
Watts wheezed, trying to stand as (Y/N) approached him. "I didn't do anything to you, boy. My colleagues did. Take your issues out on them."
"They're all dead. You're all I've got. Besides, you started it."
Watts huffed a laugh. "So what then? You'll kill me and take your vengeance!?"
(Y/N) looked at him. "No. I just wanted you to feel a fraction of the pain we had to suffer through. Now? I'm gonna make you feel the terror."
"What?"
(Y/N) slammed his foot on Watts, making him shriek in pain as the bones broke. As the doctor writhed, the dragon walked back towards the portal.
"You have two options: crawl back to Salem, tell her what happened, and face whatever hell she and Cinder will inflict on you, or go through the gate and take your chances on the run. Either way, next time we meet, I will finish you off."
(Y/N) stormed off, ignoring the cursing of the doctor as he walked through the gate once more. Slight elation he felt immediately drained as he saw absolute chaos. People were bolting towards the gate, shrieking in fear, and on the main platform, he saw Ruby, Weiss, and Blake fight Cinder and someone familiar...Neo. He didn't see Yang anywhere. Wasting time, he flew at Cinder. The demented Fall Maiden had no time to react as the dragon tackled her. The two wrestled into the air, clawing at each other like wild animals. (Y/N) focused on Cinder's Grimm, completely unprotected by Aura. Cinder shrieked in agony and flailed as (Y/N) sunk his claws. Eventually, she dislodged him, sending the boy rolling through the air. (Y/N) steadied himself as the Maiden glared at him.
"You meddlesome lizard!"
"Come up with something better, why don't you!?"
Cinder scream, launching a wave of fire, clearly forgetting (Y/N) was fireproof. He flew through the wave and locked grips with Cinder once more, her Grimm arm starting to fry due to the heat. As she tried to overpower him, (Y/N) suddenly yanked him up, causing her to get nailed with ice, curtesy of Weiss. Penny also flew in.
"Why did you have to come back!? Why couldn't you have learned your lesson!?"
Her punch knocked Cinder away, but she only smirked back. As she drew a blade and Penny prepared to fight, (Y/N) grabbed her by the collar.
"Penny, no, get the Staff through the gate! You're the one she's after!"
Penny didn't listen, drawing her weapons and flying at their enemy. As the Maidens clashed, the shockwaves rumbled the pocket dimension. Weiss, now positioned at a few unused gates, used a gravity glyph to pull Cinder from Penny. Cinder snarled, before smirking as she saw civilians starting to come through those gates. She launched a wave of glass shards at the girl. (Y/N) flew in, blasting it with fire, only for the shards to explode, the force sending him bouncing through a gate. People shrieked as they dove to avoid him as he crashed into a concrete pillar, cracking it.
"(Y/N)!?" Jaune appeared, looking concerned.
The boy simply stood up and shook the debris from his hair. "Cinder."
That's all he said before diving back in. Cinder and Penny were still duking it out, but getting too close to the civilians on the main platform. (Y/N) flew in, latching onto Cinder's shoulder to pull her away. Cinder snarled. She tried to elbow his face with her Grimm arm, only for him to bite down hard. The awful taste almost made him pass out, but he held on, long enough for Penny to ram into Cinder and get her a safe distance from the civilians. (Y/N) looked down at them.
"Go! Move it!"
As they bolted for the exit, (Y/N) heard Ruby fighting in the distance. On a different pathway, Neo seemed to toy with her. (Y/N) flew at them and as Neo lunged for Ruby, the boy deflected her blade with his own. Neo parried, only for (Y/N) to grab the tip with his hand.
"Neo!"
She stopped for a moment, confused. She narrowed her eyes, knowing he looked familiar, but not fully recognizing him.
"Do you remember me? The ice cream shop in Vale? The warehouse on that rainy day?"
Neo blinked, finally putting the pieces together.
"(Y/N), what are you talking about!?" Ruby yelled. "She dangerous!"
"Let me handle this Ruby. Neo, whatever she's told you, don't believe her. She's a liar, you have to know that! You can't trust a word she says!"
Neo seemed to falter for a moment, but seeing Ruby at the corner of her eye she gritted her teeth and pulled her weapon back.
"Neo, no!"
She ignored him and went straight at Ruby. The hooded girl twirled Crescent Rose and bursted at Neo. Neo side stepped her dash and as Ruby swung at her, Neo hooked to the end of the scythe, using the momentum to not only disarm Ruby, but knock her away. Neo stalked closer, but (Y/N) jumped in the way. Neo held nothing back, matching (Y/N)'s agility. (Y/N) tried to strike her, but her movements made her tough to hit and he found himself getting tired.
"GET AWAY FROM HIM!"
Weiss raced in on a wave of ice, knocking Neo away from their brother. She was also holding the Staff. She pulled Ruby to her feet.
"We need to finish this. For Yang."
"For Yang?" (Y/N) asked. "Why?"
The girls looked at him somberly as realization dawned on him.
"N-no..." Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, he saw a dark object fly at them. "LOOK OUT!"
He shoved his sisters out of the way as the shard hit him and exploded. Cinder had learned and made sure this explosion was a pure ball of magic. The force broke Weiss Aura as she and Ruby watched helplessly as their brother plummeted. (Y/N), Aura broken once more, drifted away, not hearing the cries or the screaming of his name, but just the ringing of his ears.

Well, looks like we're going back to Volume 4 until Spring. Tell me which one you guys want me to do first. I'll probably do it like I did for Yang and Blake, alternating between the two paths. Also, I'll be rearranging the chapter orders so it matches up with the other two since I think that will be more organized. Thanks for your patience guys, see you soon!
