Quarantine sucks. That is all. I own nothing
Chapter 14: A Tigress and a Dragon
(Y/N) laid out in the garden of Belladonna home, sunning himself. It had been about an hour since the Albain brothers visited and the atmosphere was tense to say the least. Blake had barricaded herself in her room and Sun was too busy hiding behind Kali from Ghira to pay the young dragon much mind. Instead of trying to force Blake into the open, (Y/N) decided to let her take her time. She'd come out eventually. He then decided to enjoy the nice weather and especially the sun (he was part reptile after all). As he rested, his mind wondered. He thought of other members of Team RWBY. Was Weiss doing well back home? Was a Ruby safe? How was Yang? He felt guilty thinking of them. He hadn't even said goodbye to them before he left, and he realized grimly that his last memory of Ruby was before Penny, before the fall, and Yang was a split second before Adam. He shivered involuntarily.
He really shouldn't think of stuff like this right now.
He opened his eyes and gazed at a few of the palm trees. With a spark of determination, he got to his feet and walked over to them. His widened his stance, lowered his body a little, and began striking the trunk. He could hear Yang and Tai's instructions in his ears.
Right, left, 1, 2, 3.
His body moved on his own to the familiar beat of the warm up. His knuckles would've been sore by now if not for the scales that now coated them. After working up a good sweat, he stared at the tree before taking a deep breath. He concentrated hard on his bracelet which chimed with each of his movements. He focused on the energy within, trying to draw it out, but it only resulted in pain. He gasped, clutching his head and swaying a bit. He gritted his teeth in frustration. Why couldn't he do this? He had started to remember things about the fall, namely when his semblance supposedly unlocked. He could almost remember the charms on his bracelet glowing, so it had to be connected somehow, but every attempt to use his semblance had ended in a headache, even him passing out one time. He groaned. He didn't get why he couldn't do it, it had come so naturally in the battle. Before he could become too hung up on his thoughts, he felt something light and rubbery bounce off his head. It wasn't particularly hard or even hurt that much, but it was enough of a surprise to make him squeak. Tilting his head back, (Y/N) saw what hit him: a small blue ball. He walked over and picked it up and then heard voices from beyond the walls of the house.
"Nice going Finn! You knocked it into the Belladonna's house!"
"It's not my fault! Come on, let's just get it back!"
"We can't! Momma said she'd make me guard the smith's house if I got caught in someone's garden again!"
"Then we won't get caught!"
Trotting up to the wall, (Y/N) called out to the three voices.
"Hey! Is this your ball?" The voice which supposedly belong to Finn called back.
"Uh yeah! Can you throw it back?"
"I might get it stuck on the wall, I'll get hand it to you!" Another of the voices called back.
"Sure! We'll meet you by the gate!"
"No it's fine. I'll come to you!"
"Wait, how are you-," in a bound, (Y/N) flew over the wall and landed in front of 3 bewildered children who looked to be his age. The first was a blonde, almost white haired, buck faunus boy with blue eyes. His antlers were pale and barely starting to grow in. The second boy was also blonde, though much more like Yang or Jaune, with green eyes. He was a dog a faunus, though (Y/N) couldn't tell what type, just his ears looked like ones that belonged to a guard dog. The last child was a girl with reddish brown hair and hazel eyes. She had wicked sharp claws that the young dragon thought kinda resembled a bear's. As he landed, the dog faunus bounded up to him and began immediately tugging at his wings and tail.
"Woah! Look at this guy! I've never seen a faunus like him!" (Y/N) began squirming to keep his features out of the boy's grasp. The girl grabbed boy and yanked him away angrily.
"Culain! Don't do that!" Culain pouted.
"What's the big deal Atlanta? I just wanted a better look!" The bear girl grabbed him by the ears and tugged.
"How do you like it then!?" As the 2 fought, the deer approached (Y/N).
"Uh, sorry about that," the dragon rubbed his head sheepishly.
"No, it's okay. People are usually curious," he handed the ball to him. "Here's your ball," the buck smiled and took it.
"Thanks! I'm Finn, the girl is Atlanta, and the dumb dog is Culain!" The two boys shook hands.
"I'm (Y/N)," Atlanta, seeing the duo introducing themselves, released Culain and walked up to them.
"So (Y/N), you must be new to Kou Kuana, cause we know all the kids here and we've never met you!"
"We never even seen a faunus like you!" Culain butted in before being glared at by his friends.
"Yeah, I am new. I actually just arrived here this morning,"
"Well then, welcome to Kou Kuana!" Culain gleefully said before throwing an arm over his shoulder. "Just stick with us, our winged reptile friend, and we'll show you everything!" Atlanta again tore the dog away from the dragon.
"Sorry, he just gets easily excited. But he is right, we know all the best spots on the island if you want to see,"
"We could even give you a tour if you want!" Finn offered. (Y/N) smiled.
"I'd like that!" He then looked back at the wall, unsure. "Though I think I'll need to ask my sister,"
"Your sister?" Atlanta inquired. "Does she work for the Belladonna's? Is that why you were in the garden?"
"No, my sister is Blake Belladonna," their eyes widened in disbelief.
"No way!" Finn said out loud. "I didn't know the Belladonna's had a son!" (Y/N) twirled his hair sheepishly.
"That's because they don't. Blake and few others have been taking care of me for a while now so I just call them my sister,"
"That's so cool!" Finn complimented.
"I heard Blake went to that huntsmen school in Vale," Culain interjected. "Were you there when it happened? When the Grimm attacked?!" (Y/N) felt his body numb. He still wasn't ready to talk about the fall so causally.
"Y-yes, I was there," The dog didn't seem to notice his discomfort and got starry eyed.
"Really!? That's so cool! Did you see a Grimm!? Did you fight!? Did you!?" The young dragon felt a surge of anger run through him. How dare this boy talk about the fall so casually? How dare he talk about it like it was just some game?!
"Shut UP!" He barked. Culain's face immediately fell and his ears pulled back. (Y/N)'s angry disappeared and he was left feeling guilty for his outburst. "I'm sorry. It's just...I lost people there and...it's hard to talk about," Atlanta looked at him empathetically.
"No, no, you don't need to apologize," She then grabbed Culain's ear. "He should've been more careful with the questions he asked!" Finn nodded.
"I heard what happened. About that robot that looked like a girl that got ripped apart by another student. And then the Grimm attack. My aunt's never been a big fan of Vale, but she cried for a whole day when we heard what happened. She and my other aunt even made a small herbal garden to honor the students," (Y/N) looked down solemnly.
"Penny. The robot's name was Penny,"
"Was she a friend of yours?" (Y/N) nodded to the buck.
"Yes. And the girl she fought was also one of my closest friends. Pyrrha. She died in the battle, and my sister lost an arm," the 3 kids looked at him in sadness and empathy. Atlanta held his shoulder.
"I'm really sorry (Y/N)," Culain bowed his head in shame.
"I'm sorry for bringing it up," he suddenly perked up. "I know what to do!" He quickly ran over to three small bags (Y/N) had not noticed and came back with a small, wooden thermos. "Here, drink this! It's Kou Kuana's specialty fruit juice! Try it!" He shoved the container into (Y/N)'s hand. The boy gave a curious sniff of the liquid and a quick sip. His eyes brightened at the sweet taste.
"It's good right?" Culain asked. (Y/N) nodded.
"Yeah! Really good!" The dragon took another sip before handing it back.
"So, are we fine?" (Y/N) smiled and nodded again.
"We're fine," The dog grinned.
"Great!"
"Hey, you wanna play ball with us?" Atlanta asked.
"I'd love to!"
For a time, the kids passed the ball back and forth, laughing as kids do. Finn kicked the ball high and (Y/N) managed to fly up and catch it with his tail before throwing it to Atlanta.
"Wow that was so cool (Y/N)!" He landed and blushed bashfully.
"It wasn't that great,"
"Yes it was!" Culain argued.
"Hey (Y/N), what kind of faunus are you anyway?" Finn asked respectfully. Culain butted in again.
"Yeah, cause you're clearly a lizard, but you have wings!" Atlanta bumped him on the head while the boy answered.
"I'm...a dragon faunus actually," they looked at him in disbelief.
"No way!" Culain said impressed. Finn wasn't buying it.
"I don't believe it. Dragon faunus are just a story!" (Y/N) smirked.
"Oh yeah? Watch this!" (Y/N) flew up a few feet before breathing a small flame into the air. It was small, nothing that could ignite a wildfire, but it was still big enough for his new friends to see. They were all obviously impressed as he landed with pride.
"That was awesome (Y/N)!" Atlanta complimented.
"It was so cool!"
"Oh that was nothing, you should see the kind of fires I make when fighting Grimm!"
"You've fought Grimm?!"
"Yeah a couple of times,"
"Oh man, you have to tell us about it!"
"Culain! Finn! Atlanta!" A woman called. The four children looked back to see a woman holding what appeared to be grocery. Judging by the yellow hair and dog ears, he could guess this was Culain's mom. While she had a smile on, (Y/N) could feel her looking at him nervously and suspiciously. A quick soul check revealed she didn't trust the young boy. Probably because she just saw him breath fire. The other 3 didn't notice her standoffish behavior and ran to her. Culain pulled at her skirt.
"Momma! Momma! Come meet (Y/N)! You'll never believe what kind of faunus he is!"
"He's a dragon!" Finn said. "Isn't that cool?!" The woman nodded hesitantly and looked over at the strange boy.
"Yes, I suppose. Young man, you should go back to your family. Outsiders should play by the chieftain's house and neither should you children! It's rude!"
"But I-," she cut (Y/N) off.
"No buts, you should go back home," the tone of her voice changed the meaning of her statement, but even if it didn't, it would still sting. Luckily, someone came to his rescue.
"Oh (Y/N), there you are," Ghira walked up to them and Culain's mother looked in shock.
"Oh chieftain! Do you know this...stranger?" (Y/N) flinched at her words and Ghira took notice. He put a reassuring hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Why yes. He's a guest in my house and my daughter sees him as he brother now. He will be staying with us for a while," she smiled forcefully.
"How wonderful! It seems these 4 will get along nicely then. Well, we won't bother you anymore chieftain. Come along kids,"
"Bye (Y/N)!" Culain said.
"Nice meeting you!" Added Finn.
"Let's play again!" Atlanta said lastly before they all headed off. (Y/N) then saw Culain's mother tell them something, and though he could hear it well, he made out the words, "don't go looking for him again,". Ghira caught it too and crossed his arms and shook his head in disappointment. (Y/N) frowned and his tail droop.
"Don't let their words get to you," the older faunus encouraged.
"I don't belong here," was all he replied.
"What?"
"This place was built for faunus, but even then, there are no faunus like me. I'm the only one. You saw the way she looked at me," Ghira sighed before kneeling to his level.
"People have a tendency to fear what they do not know or understand. That's why the humans fear us. But her words are just words, they're only as powerful as you make them," (Y/N) gave a sad smile.
"Thanks Ghira," the chieftain nodded before motioning his head back to the house.
"Come on. I think I found something you'll like to see,"
(Timeskip)
What Ghira had found was a few books about dragon faunus with pictures and facts that (Y/N) couldn't tell whether they were true or not. He even read about an ancient forest in Anima that was supposed to be the secret home of the dragon faunus. He made a mental note to go there one day. Who knows, it might be where he was from. For an hour, he read and read and it made him feel better.
He then began to feel like someone was watching him.
It was faint, but he couldn't shake the feeling. It annoyed him like a persistent mosquito. He glanced out the window into the trees, the dense foliage made it hard to see very far, but he swore he saw something twitching. Once again using his soul sight, he saw someone was indeed there. The soul was very light red, almost pink, almost like it was confused on whether it wanted to be friendly or enraged. Beyond that, (Y/N) didn't sense anything particularly threatening about this person, so quietly, he exited the room before jumping out a window in the hall and doubling back to where the person was. Up close, he could make out her outline, but their entire body was green, perfectly camouflaged in the trees. He sneakily landed behind them without them realizing.
"Hi!" He said cheerfully. The stranger squealed and nearly fell out of the tree. She was girl judging by her voice. And she was also wearing a very familiar mask. Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward and offered a hand.
"You okay?" He asked, tilting his head. The girl nodded, probably still shocked.
"Y-yeah, I'm alright," she regained her balance without his help.
"What are you doing?"
"Uh, I'm just...guarding the house?"
"By watching the library and hiding in trees?"
"I have to be very sneaky about it," (Y/N) crossed his arms and pouted.
"It's not nice to lie, and I know Ghira wouldn't let White Fang guard the house," she smiled nervously.
"W-what? What makes you think I'm White Fang," he raised a brow.
"Um, your mask?" She stopped immediately.
"Oh, right. Sorry," She took off her mask and stopped camouflaging. She was really pretty to the young boy.
"You know, you should go. My sister really doesn't like White Fang and I think she'll get mad if she sees us talking,"
"Your sister?"
"Blake," The girl frowned and almost growled. Clearly, she was not a fan of the other faunus girl. "Do you know her?" She rolled her eyes.
"Oh, I know her. She was supposed to be my friend, but she abandoned me! Abandoned our cause! Ran away like a coward!" (Y/N) frowned. He was 9, but he was very perceptive thanks to use of his ability, so he could tell there was something else wrong.
"You shouldn't talk about my sister like that," She froze, realizing she was still talking to a young boy, and turned back to him.
"Right. Listen kid, whatever she told you about the White Fang, it's not true,"
"She hasn't told me anything about the White Fang. I don't trust them because of stuff I've been through,"
"Huh?" He looked away uncomfortably.
"Let's just say, the two times I've been up close with the White Fang weren't fun,"
"I see," she perked up suddenly. "Why don't I show you what the White Fang are really about?" He tilted his head.
"How?" She smiled.
"I'll introduce you to our high leader, Sienna Khan. She'd be more than happy to teach you about what the White Fang truly are,"
"I don't know, it's a bad idea talking to strangers," he was lying of course. He could tell she was being sincere and wouldn't hurt him, but she was still White Fang and he was still terrified of them. Meeting their high leader wasn't something on his list of things to do. Still, he was a curious little guy and he wanted to know if this Sienna person knew what exactly Adam had done. The girl held out her hand.
"My name's Illia," he hesitated for a moment before shaking.
"I'm (Y/N),"
"There, now we're not stranger. So, do you want to meet our high leader?" He looked back at the house.
"Blake might get worried about me. Sun too," Illia smirked.
"Don't worry, I'll have you back before they can notice,"
"How?"
"I've got a good friend who could help," (Y/N), still unsure and against his better judgement, nodded.
"Alright. But just so you know, I will set you on fire if you try anything," Illia chuckled.
"Noted. Come on, I'll help you down,"
"No, it's fine," he dropped from the branches and Illia squeaked.
"(Y/N)!" She jumped and landed on the ground, expecting to see the little guy, only to find him hovering off the ground. She stared at his wings. "(Y/N)..."
"I'm a dragon,"
"Oh I didn't-,"
"It's okay, everyone asks,"
"I see, come on, I'll introduce you to my friend,"
The 2 walked down the streets of Kou Kuana for a bit before they rounded a corner. A man was leaning against a wall, his eyes closed. He was a tall, blonde, dog faunus and (Y/N) guessed he was Culain's dad because he was practically an older version of the boy. The man opened a green eye full of mischief. He smirked at them.
"Kidnapping? Seriously Illia?" She grimaced at him.
"No Lou, we're bringing him back later,"
"So where are we taking him now?"
"HQ, I want him to meet High Leader Khan," Lou looked at the boy.
"Really? We're taking an outsider to see the high leader?" She picked up (Y/N).
"Yes, for educational purposes. Now, maybe open the portal?"
"I'm not taking the fall with you if this goes south," suddenly, a hole opened up in the ground to what appeared to be a building.
"Alright (Y/N), this might make you a little dizzy, so hold on," Illia warmed be taking the plunge. They landed in a unknown location, Lou following closely behind. He smirked at the boy.
"Welcome to White Fang HQ in Mistral kid," (Y/N)'s eyes widened.
"Mistral!? That's a different continent!" The older faunus laughed.
"Surprised? It's my semblance. I can create portals if I can visualize a location I've been. You do know what a semblance is right?"
"Of course! I unlocked my semblance!" Illia looked at him in surprise.
"Really, you're a little young for that,"
"Illia, Lou," a guard approached them. (Y/N) flinched away from his spear and Illia gave him a reassuring pat. "Who is this boy? Why have you brought a stranger into our base?" Lou stepped up.
"Illia thought that the kid would benefit from talking to the high leader, and the high leader might be interested in meeting the dragon faunus guest of the Belladonna's," the guard's eyes widened as he looked at (Y/N).
"A dragon? Are you certain?"
"Look at him. Do you know any reptiles with horns, wings, and a tail?" The guard nodded.
"I'll inform the high leader. Wait here," he ran off. Lou smirked at (Y/N).
"Well, look at that. You got the real king's treatment kid. Feel special,"
"Stop teasing him," Illia scolded. "But you should feel honored (Y/N). Now, when you're in there, be very respectful. High Leader Khan won't stand for disrespect,"
"Got it," (Y/N) said, questioning his decision to come. A little while later, the guard returned.
"She'll see him,"
"Alright kid, time to meet the big Kahuna herself," Lou said, pushing him towards the end of the hall. A pair of guards opened the large doors and (Y/N) saw himself standing in what appeared to be a throne room. There were many armed guards. Near the back, there was a woman sitting on a throne. She was tigress, judging by the ears and stripes, and her gold eyes were very imposing. This was a woman who reminded (Y/N) about his crippling fear of strangers. He change to his soul sight, he could tell she was strong willed , but just as short tempered as Yang. He gulped loudly. Her ear twitch and she smiled at him.
"Step forward. There's no need to be afraid, you're safe here," (Y/N) felt glued to the spot before Illia nudged forward. Hesitantly, he stepped up.
"There, that wasn't so hard. My name is Sienna Khan, the high leader of the White Fang. What is your name little one?"
"(Y-Y/N), ma'am. (Y/N) Rose Xiao Long," Sienna nodded.
"I welcome you then (Y/N). I never thought in my life I would meet a dragon faunus,"
"I get that a lot," she chuckled.
"I'm sure you do. So, you've been taken in by the Belladonnas,"
"Yes, Blake was one of the people who took care of me, back at Beacon," Sienna's eyes glanced away.
"Yes. I'm sorry about the tragedy, it must not have been easy,"
"No...the White Fang were at the fall,"
"(Y/N)!" Illia said urgently. Sienna motioned her to stop.
"I am aware of the White Fang's involvement. Believe me when I tell you, I would not have allowed this. It appears one of my leaders have gone rogue,"
"Adam," She nodded.
"I see Blake has told you about him. I don't know what else she told you about us-,"
"No offense Ms-High Leader Khan, but my distrust is from experience, not what was told to me," The older woman's expression became one of shock and curiosity.
"Really now? Tell me (Y/N), what are your experiences with the White Fang?" He fidgeted, not comfortable with telling her what he thought. "It's alright, you can speak your mind. No faunus should be fearful here," he took a deep breath before pulling up his sleeves. He heard a few gasps. Sienna said nothing, but her eyes betrayed anger and disgust.
"White coats did this to me. Human and faunus," he made sure not to further justify her hatred of humans. "We were kept in a lab and tortured. One day, White Fang came...and they killed everyone. The white coats, my friends, I was the only one who survived," he could feel everyone looking at him in pity. Lou was no longer mischievous or cocky, but solemn and empathetic. Was he thinking of Culain? And Illia looked ready to cry. He looked down at his scars, feeling numb at the memories.
"Don't," Sienna said firmly. "Don't be ashamed of those (Y/N). They prove you are a survivor. I value strength (Y/N), the will to continue, and I recognize that you have a great deal of that strength. I respect that. I'm sorry for what happen. Your friends, children should never be collateral damage, faunus and human alike,"
"Thank you. Maybe, it was accident at the lab. But the fall, that was no accident. I was almost killed there, and it wasn't because of a Grimm, it was intentional," The high leader raised a brow.
"What do you mean," he didn't look her in eye. "(Y/N). Speak,"
"Adam...he tried to kill me during the Fall of Beacon," eyes widened in shock. Sienna growled and her nails dug into her throne.
"What?"
"Adam tried to kill me. He did it to hurt Blake,"
"No! That can't be right!" Illia shouted. "He's confused," Sienna raised her hand and sent her a hard look. She then turned back to (Y/N).
"(Y/N), you understand the severity of what you're say, don't you?" He nodded.
"He came up to me, drew his sword and tried to kill me. The only reason I'm alive is because I unlocked my semblance and I caught him by surprise," he opened his hand and revealed his scar on his palm. "He left me with this,"
"He's gone made," Lou said in horror. Sienna gritted her teeth. She new full well want type of marks Wilt and Blush left. That scar no doubt came from Adam's sword. She stood.
"You're making a brave claim Xiao Long. Why should I trust your word against one of my closest lieutenants?" (Y/N) held his head up and looked her right in the eye.
"I don't care what you believe. I told you the truth: during the fall Adam attacked Blake, and while he was torturing her, my sister Yang, a human, rushed in to save her and he cut off her arm. After, he tried to kill me. Whatever he's told you about the attack, don't believe him. He doesn't care about anything but getting back at the world, and he doesn't care who he hurts, innocent or not. What he tried to do was to hurt Blake because that's all he cares about,"
"Enough!" Sienna voice roared. "For child, you have a lot of nerve. If you are so weary of us, then why come here?"
"Because I trust Ghira, and he at least doesn't fear you," Ghira had talked to (Y/N) about the White Fang briefly, especially Sienna. There was a history, but not exactly animosity. "I know you're not a bad person High Leader Khan, I know you don't attack the innocent. But I think you don't understand how easy it is for anger to grow, how fear creates violence," Lou gulped loudly.
"You shouldn't have brought him here Illia, she's gonna kill him!" Sienna bounded at (Y/N) gripping a blade at the end of her chain.
"High Leader no!" Illia protested. The tigress pointed the blade an inch from (Y/N)'s face. The boy didn't flinch and kept her gaze.
"I could strike you down here," (Y/N) shook his head.
"You won't, that's not what you believe in, that's not who you are,"
"And you know this how?"
"I'm good judge of character," there was still, until Sienna began to chuckle. She pulled the blade away from him and smiled.
"I apologize (Y/N), you're stronger than I gave you credit for," she glanced at Lou and Illia who looked ready to have heart attacks. "Take him home, I have much to think about,"
"You're just letting him go like that!?" Illia asked. "After what he said!?" The tigress nodded.
"He's not a prisoner Illia, he's a friend of the high leader. Go home little one. Rest assured, Adam will pay for his crimes," He nodded.
"Thank you High Lea-,"
"Sienna, little one," he smiled.
"Thank you Sienna," She looked back at Lou and Illia.
"Take him back. I don't want the Belladonna's to worry about him,"
"Right away high leader!" Lou scooped him up and began scurrying to the door.
"Wait!" (Y/N) called out. "Sienna!" The high leader turned back.
"Yes?"
"Be careful. Adam...he's gonna do whatever it takes to get what he wants," He looked over at the guards. From the moment he walked in, he could sense something...off about them. Sienna could tell where he was looking and cast a suspicious glance at the guards without turning. She nodded to him.
"I'll keep that in mind. Now go," Lou and Illia bowed and hurried out. The blonde man let out a gasp of relief.
"You have got to be the gutsiest little boy I have ever met! I would've been wetting myself if it were me!" (Y/N)'s courage by now had subsided and his anxiousness came crashing through.
"I think I'm gonna be sick,"
"Go on, little guy, we won't judge,"
(Timeskip)
Lou teleported them back to Belladonna's and the 2 White Fang members escorted him to the library. Luckily, it was still bright out.
"Alright little man, stay out of trouble will you?"
"I will Lou,"
"Be good," the blonde man jumped away, but Illia stayed behind.
"You're wrong about him (Y/N). Adam is a great leader,"
"..."
"You're just too young to understand. It's not your fault you only had Blake," like that she was gone.
"I hope you're right," there was a knock on the door.
"(Y/N), it's Kali. Dinner's ready,"
"Coming!"
So, maybe a few of these characters are ooc, but I'd like to believe Sienna does have a soft spot for kids and she would know the legends about dragons being wise. Lou is gonna be important later. Also, the three kids in the story are based on stories that I challenge you to guess. Here's a hint: focus on legends.
