Chapter 4: A Day on the Town

Chapter 4: Worst Babysitters Ever
Team RWBY was currently in the library playing Remnant the board game (if this has an actual name, please tell me). (Y/N) was seated in Yang's lap while the gang taught him how to play. Unfortunately for Weiss, Ruby, and Blake, (Y/N) was a very fast learner and was easily influenced by Yang's enthusiasm for the game.
"Cower before the might of Vale and its great leaders! Yang the Conquerer!"
"And (Y/N) the Unstoppable!"
"I think we should take (Y/N) away from her," Blake said. Ruby slammed her hands on the table.
"Mistral will never surrender sister! We will prevail and I will take back lieutenant (Y/N) for our kingdom!"
"You'll take my lieutenant over my dead body!" Ruby slammed a card down.
"Then try to stop my spies! The are near unbeatable in the forest and with their espionage bonus, your walls are doomed to fall to my army!"
"Trap card!" (Y/N) called out happily, raising card over his head. "Ursas attack!"
"What!?" Ruby cried sadly as Yang batted away her troop pieces.
"Your spies have been mauled by Ursas!" Ruby began crying.
"(Y/N) how could you!?"
"Don't you guys ever just read in here?" A voice asked. The gang looked behind them to see Sun and Neptune walking towards them. Yang waved to them.
"Sun, Neptune, you're back!"
"Yup," The monkey faunus shot back. "Anyways, why is there a kid on your lap Yang?" Ruby suddenly appeared by her sister's side.
"Oh, this is (Y/N)! We're taking care of him. (Y/N), this is Sun, and that's Neptune," he hugged Yang and shyly waved at them.
"Hi," Sun smiled.
"Sup little dude?" The boys walked up to the table to get a better look at him. Neptune was the first to notice his tail.
"He's a faunus?"
"Hey, cool tail," Sun said while flicking his own back and forth. "Almost as cool as mine,"
"Really?" (Y/N) asked with bright eyes.
"Yeah. Hey, watch this!" The monkey suddenly sprang into the air and hung upside down by his tail from a flag pole. "Pretty cool huh?" (Y/N) nodded his head.
"Wow! I can't do that, but I can do this!" Pushing off from Yang's lap, (Y/N) flew over and hovered right in front of the older boy.
"WOAH!" Sun fell head first. Neptune's mouth was wide open.
"He can fly!?" Ruby smiled mischievously.
"Yep, no one ever expects the wings," (Y/N) land next to Sun and poked his head with his tail.
"You ok?" Sun jumped back to his feet.
"Never better! But man, that was one heck of a trick kid! What kind of faunus are you anyways?"
"I'm a dragon!" (Y/N) answered proudly.
"Really, that's awesome!"
"Where'd you guys find a dragon?" Neptune asked Weiss.
"Poor thing was in the forest being attacked by a Nevermore," The Schnee heiress explained. "Once we brought him here, we found out he has no where to go. Luckily Professor Ozpin let him stay with us,"
"Aw, that's rough," Neptune said sympathetically. (Y/N) shook his head.
"I don't mind, I like it here. And I like being with the girls,"
"Aw!" Ruby cooed as she ran up to hug him. "You are the sweetest thing ever!"
"Ruby I can't breath!" The little dragon complained as the hyperactive leader squeezed him.
"You know, it's really nice of you guys to watch him," The blue haired male complimented. Weiss enthusiastically snatched the half conscious (Y/N) from Ruby's death hug before locking him in her own hug.
"Well it would be completely irresponsible to leave a child on his own in such a dangerous world! Besides, with all the trauma he's been through, he needs emotional support and love!" Blake then stalked up to her.
"He also needs air," she yanked the nearly blue dragon from Weiss's grip. (Y/N) took a huge gulp of air.
"Hey!"
"Thanks Blake," the cat faunus sat back down with her kitten safely on her lap. Sun looked surprise.
"Wow Blake, never took you for the mothering type," she sent him a look which immediately such him. There was suddenly a loud beeping from Yang's scroll. Picking it up, she grimaced.
"Aw man! Coco and Velvet just cancelled on us! Apparently the whole of Team CFVY is sick,"
"Were you guys planning to hang out or something?" Neptune asked. Ruby shook her head.
"No, we have a few things we need to do in town and we didn't want to leave (Y/N) alone for for the day,"
"Why not just take him with you?"
"It's shopping for clothes and...other things," Weiss tried to put delicately. Both boys winced.
"You are kinder guardians than most," Neptune praised. Sun looked back at Blake.
"Why not ask Team JNPR?"
"Currently helping Professor Port after Nora stole his stash of homemade syrup,"
"Maybe we should just postpone our trip," Yang said.
"Well, why don't we take him?" Sun offered.
"What?" Blake and Neptune asked, not sure if they heard him correctly. Sun smirked.
"I mean it's only for a few hours right? Me, Neptune, Scarlet, and Sage can watch him,"
"I'm not sure that's a good idea," Blake retorted.
"Me either," Neptune seethed at his friend. The monkey just waved him off.
"Hey come on, you can trust us! Besides, (Y/N) could use a few more guy friends to balance out the ratio,"
"It could be good for (Y/N) to experience some male bonding time," Weiss admitted. Yang looked at the little dragon.
"(Y/N), are you ok with spending the day with Sun and Neptune?" (Y/N) gazed at the two for moment. Sun seemed like a lot of fun, and though he was reluctant, Neptune seemed pretty cool. Plus, if they were friends with the girls, he could trust them. He smiled and nodded.
"That's ok!" Blake sighed and put him on the ground before the girls got up to leave.
"Alright, we're trusting you to watch him," Sun gave the boy a nugie.
"Relax, we've got this. We'll even giving him some lessons in combat,"
"Alright, but just so you know," Yang stepped forward with her gauntlets drawn. "If anything happens to him, we will hunt you down. Got it?" Both boys glopped and nodded. Yang then smiled.
"Good!" She then hugged (Y/N). "Be good my little dragon,"
"I will Yang!" The girls all gave their good bye hugs to their ward and then exited the library. Sun then proceeded to pick up (Y/N) and put him on his shoulders.
"Why did you agree to this?" Neptune asked. Sun rolled his eyes.
"Come on man, just helping out friends in need. Besides, don't girls love a guy who's great with kids," Neptune smirked.
"I guess your right,"
"Anyways, come on (N/N). We'll introduce you to Scarlet and Sage,"
(Timeskip)
(Y/N) actually really enjoyed the day with Team SSSN. Scarlet and Sage were also really awesome people and it was a nice change of pace hanging out with boys for once. Sun had taught (Y/N) all about using his tail to keep his balance and how to play tricks on people with it, Sage was more than willing to help him train for endurance, Scarlet was happy to spar with him, and Neptune even let him try out his trident, albeit for a very short time and without electricity. The blue haired male also had decided to abuse the boy's cuteness to flirt with girls. Luckily Sage put a stop to it. After some training, the guys all decided to treat their new friend to some lunch in town. (Y/N) made a big impression by scarfing down a huge steak all by himself. Sage whistled.
"Woah, I never thought I'd see a kid eat his weight in meat before," (Y/N) grinned before beginning to pick off his fries.
"Yup! I eat like this all the time! Blake says most of the calories I consume are burned off during flying, so I have to eat a lot," Sun gave him a thumbs up.
"Hey, if I had as good of an excuse to stuff my face at every meal, I'd do the exact same thing!"
"So are you gonna show us that little trick you told us about?" Neptune inquired. "You know the one with the souls?"  (Y/N) swallowed nervously.
"Well, it's not really anything flashy. I can just see a person's soul and so far, by looking at the color, I can sorta guess what their main trait is,"
"Well go on!" Sun encouraged. "I want to know what my soul looks like!" (Y/N) took a deep breath and began to concentrate. Slowly the world darkened and the four males around him vanished, leaving the blobs of color. He pointed at the one which represented Sun.
"Your soul is gold Sun. According to the book Blake gave me, it means your very sincere. Neptune's is pale blue, which means he calm but he's also insecure,"
"Hey!" The mentioned male protested. The other guys laughed.
"He's got you figured out Neptune," Sun joked. "Don't even try to deny it,"
"Sage, your soul is beige, meaning you're very down to earth. Finally, Scarlet's is orange, meaning he's either very enthusiastic or very flamboyant,"
"Flamboyant," The other 3 quickly stated as (Y/N)'s vision returned to normal.
"And you're sure this isn't your semblance," Sage asked. The boy shook his head.
"Yup! Professor Ozpin told me this was just one of my abilities as a dragon faunus,"
"And you're gonna get more of these along with a semblance? I'm jealous dude," Sun admitted.
"You are quite the spectacle (Y/N)," Scarlet complimented. "It must be fascinating being a dragon faunus," (Y/N) just kept eating his fries.
"I wouldn't know. I've never met another dragon faunus so I wouldn't know what's suppose to feel normal,"
"Never? Wait wouldn't one of your parents been a dragon faunus or some other member of your family?" Neptune asked. (Y/N) stopped mid bite and looked very uncomfortable.
"I...don't remember my family all that well. I remember a warm bed, a cozy living room, but no faces or voices. Mostly I just remember the dark place,"
"The dark place?" Sun asked with growing concern. (Y/N) nodded and pulled back his sleeves, revealing his scars, much to the shock of Team SSSN.
"White coats hurt me. Not just me, other kids too. Sometimes a kid would leave the cages and I'd never see them again,"
"You poor boy," Scarlet said with a look of empathy on his face. (Y/N) quickly pulled his sleeves back up and smiled.
"It doesn't matter anymore. I have Team RWBY now, so I don't have to be scared anymore," Sage smiled and nodded his head.
"You're made of stronger stuff than most (Y/N),"
The boys paid up for lunch and got some desserts to go (Scarlet was nice enough to give his to (Y/N)). Neptune and (Y/N) waited outside for the rest of the team finished up inside, when a group of girls came up to them. Neptune immediately went into flirt mode.
"Ladies," The girls giggled and Neptune began ignoring (Y/N) who simply hoped the rest of the Team would come out quickly. Something then caught his eye: across the street was a woman with a parasol. She looked familiar. Using his soul vision, (Y/N) quickly realized it was the nice lady from the ice cream parlor. Quickly checking to make sure Neptune was distracted, (Y/N) crossed the street and ran after the woman. Just then, the rest of Team SSSN came out of the restaurant. Sage sighed at the sight of Neptune flirting.
"Well that's unsurprising,"
"Sorry you had to see that...(Y/N)?" Sun's voice wavered as he didn't see the little dragon they were supposed to be caring for. Scarlet called to Neptune.
"Neptune, where's (Y/N)?" The blue haired male turned around.
"What are you talking about, he's right...." He stopped as he realized the boy as not there. He went pale.
"Oh no,"
(Elsewhere)
(Y/N) finally managed to catch up to the lady. He tugged on her skirt like he had at the parlor.
"Ms?"
She turned around and looked surprised to see him. (Y/N) smiled and pulled out one of the cookies he had gotten from the restaurant.
"Thanks for the ice cream. I know this isn't as good, but I wanted to give you it!" The woman blushed and had a look of "oh my gods, this boy is so cute". She took the cookie, patted his head, and took out a note pad. She wrote down:
"Thank you. That's nice of you. My name is Neo, what's your name?"
"My name's (Y/N)! Why are you writing though?" Neo wrote some more.
"I can't talk, so this is how I communicate," (Y/N) winced a bit.
"Oh, sorry,"
"It's ok, you didn't know," (Y/N) turned to leave.
"Well it was nice meeting you, but I'd better..." The dragon faunus realized then and there he had no idea where he was or where his friends were.
"Uh oh, which way is back!?" He began to panic and to make matters worse, it began to rain. (Y/N) hated the cold and quickly wrapped his wings around himself. The rain suddenly stopped hitting him. Looking up, he saw Neo using her parasol to cover him. She held out the note pad.
"Something wrong?" He started getting tears in his eyes.
"I-I don't know where my friends are! I don't know where I am!" Neo smiled before writing (somehow).
"Well, if you're lost, you can come with me and we can find them later," (Y/N) hesitated for a second. Neo seemed nice, but he didn't know her well and her soul's color wasn't exactly reassuring. Still, it was cold, wet, and he had no idea where to go. So he took her hand and nodded.
"Alright," Neo smiled and scooped him up with her free arm. He curled into her since he was cold. Neo smiled at this and went on her merry way.
(Elsewhere)
The guys were currently panicking and having simultaneous nervous break downs as the combed the town for the boy they were supposed to be taking care of, not caring about the rain.
"(Y/N)!"
"(Y/N) come out!"
"Where are you!"
"(Y/N) please answer!"
They all met back up outside the restaurants in hopes the boy would find his way back there.
"Any sign of him?" Sun asked. Sage shook his head.
"No, couldn't find a trace of him,"
"Me either," Scarlet said. Neptune punched the wall.
"This is a nightmare!" Sun growled at him.
"I'll say! What the heck Neptune? You were supposed to watch him!"
"I only took my eyes off him for a second!"
"That's always how it happens!" Sage got between them and pushed them apart.
"Alright, enough. Look, let's just keep looking. He's 8. He couldn't have gotten that far," Sun sallowed as he remembered.
"(Y/N) can fly," he admitted. Sage and Scarlet's eye's widened.
"Oh...then we're doomed," Scarlet sighed.
"Yeah, (Y/N) is probably freaking out and the girls are going to kill us!" Sun nearly screamed when his scroll suddenly started vibrating. He nearly dropped it when he realized it was Blake calling.
"Answer it!" Neptune urged. Sun did as such and put on a fake happy voice.
"Hey Blake! What's up,"
"Hey Sun. I'm just calling to tell you we might be a little late than expected. We ran into one of Ruby's friends here," Sun nearly cheered in relief. That gave them more time to find (Y/N).
"Oh, that's not a problem!"
"How's (Y/N) doing?"
"(Y/N)? Oh he's having a blast! He loves training with us!"
"Well, take him inside. I can hear the rain and the last thing he needs is a cold,"
"Of course! Don't worry, we're keeping a good eye on him,"
"Can I talk to him?"
"Oh sorry, Neptune just fell into a puddle, gotta go!" He hung up and looked at his team. "Ok, we have more time to find him and not get our butts kicked," Scarlet crossed his arms.
"Am I the only worried that (Y/N), who is part reptile, is out in the cold rain?" There was a cold sense of dread that swept over them.
"We have to find him, fast,"
(Timeskip)
Neo brought (Y/N) to a large warehouse. Just before entering, her appearance changed. She now had pink and brown hair, and pink and brown eyes, as well as a different outfit. (Y/N) mouth gapped in surprise.
"How did you do that?" She silently giggled before putting him down and writing 'Semblance' on the note pad.
"That's really cool Neo!" She took his hand and led him inside. Inside, there was a red headed man with a fedora and cane.
"Ah Neo, there you ar-," he cut himself off as he saw (Y/N). "Who's the brat?" (Y/N) pouted at being called a brat. Neo quickly signed (you can't convince me he didn't learn sign language just for her):
"He's a friend and he's cute, so I brought him here," Roman face palmed.
"Neo, kidnapping is a lower crime, we have a reputation to uphold. Besides, of all kids you could've taken, you chose a faunus kid when this place is littered with White Fang?" She pouted before signing.
"He won't be any trouble, I'll watch him," Roman growled before sighing in defeat.
"Fine! You, lizard boy,"
"My name is (Y/N)," he growled in response.
"Yeah whatever, just don't touch anything and stay close to Neo, or else," (Y/N) didn't like this guy and stood next to Neo.
"Why's he so cranky?" Neo smiled.
"He's just a dum dum,"
(Timeskip)
For about an hour, Neo and (Y/N) played a game of hide and seek around the base. (Y/N)'s flying certainly surprised Neo for a bit, but her acrobatic skills put her ahead. The rain outside only got worse. Roman eventually whistled.
"To the two children currently running amuck in my hideout, can you come down from your sugar high and help me with the White Fang?" (Y/N) stuck his tongue out at him.
"He is a dum dum," Neo smiled and pat his head. The two of them walked down and saw faunus in Grimm masks walking in, all armed to the teeth.
"All the dust has been shipped in," a wolf male reported. Roman nodded.
"Good, we're all set then," the faunus looked over at Neo and (Y/N).
"Why is there a kid here?" Roman waved it off.
"Ignore him, he's just a stray that got picked up,"
"Well is he ok? He looks like he's seen a ghost,"
Roman's eyebrow cocked as he looked over to (Y/N). The little didn't look too good at all. He was pale and shaking and his eyes were blown wide with fear.
"Neo, what's wrong with the kid?" Neo bent down to try and calm the now frightened boy.     (Y/N) just stared at the White Fang member. He recognized the mask and the gun, he remembered the day he escaped from the lab, the loud bangs, and the screaming. The White Fang male took a step close.
"Kid, are you ok?" (Y/N) immediately jumped back, and bared his teeth.
"Stay away from me!" He yelped. Neo's eyes widened with shock. Roman rolled his eyes.
"What's wrong with you brat?" Neo tried to get (Y/N) under control, but he freaked out.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" (Y/N) pulled away and ran outside into the rain. Neo's look turned to one of worry while Roman had one of fury.
"Hey stop that brat! We can't have him telling anyone-," (Y/N) suddenly spread his wings and began flying faster than he ever had before. "What the heck?" Neo had a sad look on her face as (Y/N) disappeared from view.
(Timeskip)
(Y/N) flew for an unknown amount of time before his wings gave out and he crashed into a pile of trash in an alleyway. The rain was coming down super hard by now and even thunder started to rumble. (Y/N) was now cold, scared, miserable, wet, and now covered in trash. He curled his tail and wings tightly around himself and began crying.
"I wanna go home! I want Yang, Ruby, Blake, and Weiss!" he covered his face and wept. A few moments later, he heard footsteps. He looked up and saw a red headed girl with bright blue eyes. She waved with a grin.
"Salutations!" (Y/N) didn't know how to react.
"Um, hi?"
"I overheard someone crying and investigated this alley? Why are you crying little boy?" (Y/N) hugged himself tighter.
"I'm lost. I don't know where I am or where any of my friends are!"
"That is unacceptable! Children under the age of 10 should always be under the supervision of an adult! I will assist you!" She quickly scooped up the boy and began walking out of the alley. (Y/N) was a little freaked out. She didn't feel right, she felt very firm, but not in a muscular way like Yang. Her soul was also very weird. It was bright pink meaning she was very caring, but something seemed different about it. But, she was helping him and he couldn't even get more lost than he already was.
"So, what's your name? Mine's (Y/N)," she smiled brightly.
"My name is Penny! I hope we can be good friends!" He gave a soft smile and whipped the rest of his tears.
"I think we can. Where are we going,"
"To my friends! An increased number of people will maximize the efficiency of our search for your companions!" (Y/N) tilted his head in confusion.
"Uh, wha-?"
"There they are!" Four familiar girls were gathered under an archway to avoid the rain. Ruby waved at Penny, not seeing (Y/N) just yet.
"Oh, there you are Penny!"
"(Y/N)?" Weiss asked. He jumped from Penny's arms and ran up to Ruby, hugging her waist with his arms and wings.
"Ruby!" He cried happily.
"(Y/N), what are you doing here!?" Weiss demanded while try to assess him.
"And why do you smell like garbage?" Blake asked. Ruby picked up the crying boy and craddled him.
"(Y/N), why aren't you with Sun and Neptune?" He cried harder.
"I got lost! Then some guy in a mask scared me and I flew into garbage!" Ruby quickly ran her fingers through his (H/C) hair to calm him.
"Aw, it's ok sweetie, you're safe now," Yang punched the wall next to her with her eyes red.
"Did any of you get informed that (Y/N) went missing?" Weiss and Blake suddenly looked ready to kill.
"Blake, call Sun," the faunus pulled out her phone and dialed his number. The monkey picked up his phone.
"H-hey Blake! You calling to check in again?" His voice was laced with guilt.
"Let me speak to (Y/N) Sun," she could almost hear him sweating through the phone.
"Um- you can't!"
"Why not?"
"Uh, he's in the bathroom right now!"
"Then I'll wait,"
"Um...he'll be a while so," Blake suddenly put the phone up to (Y/N) ear.
"(Y/N), say hi to Sun,"
"Sorry Sun," Blake took back the phone and waited for an excuse.
"We're in trouble are we?"
"You're dead when I get ahold of you!" Yang yelled before grabbing the scroll and hanging up. (Y/N) whimpered.
"Don't be mad at them! I ran off!"
"They should've been watching you better!" Weiss stated firmly before seeing him shiver. "We should get him back to Beacon, he's freezing!"
"Um, It seems you all are already friends," Penny finally interjected. Ruby nodded.
"Oh sorry Penny! This is (Y/N), the one I told you about!"
"Sensational! It's a pleasure to meet you (Y/N)!"
"But we already-ACHOO!" He sneezed loudly before groaning. Penny's eye's seemed to glow a bit.
"His internal temperature is higher than it should be," (Y/N) looked at Ruby with sad eyes.
"Ruby, I don't feel right," Yang put a hand on his forehead.
"I think he has a fever. Must've been all the stress,"
"We should get him home," Blake said before opening up an umbrella.
"Agreed! Thanks for finding him Penny!" Ruby quickly thanked before running back to Beacon. She waved back happily.
"Anything for friends!"
