A lot happened in the summer.
Oscar went back home to visit his dad along with his mother.
They then went to his late grandparents' house in a faraway town, to pay their respects as they did every year.
He got a new smart phone so he could text and send photos to his friends.
He had his eyes operated and took a week a recover from the surgery. His spectacles were too inconvenient according to him so his family decided to just deal with it permanently.
His father taught him how to shave and he did it for the first time in his life.
The surgery and shaving had given Oscar a complete make-over.
The dark, spectacled, hairy child was replaced by a fresher looking, bright child.
First day in and nobody believed it was him, it took me few seconds to process who the new kid in the class was too.
I guess when someone said, 'Drastic Changes can occur in a matter of time, they were speaking from experience.'
Rio was fascinated by Oscar's new look and started talking to him more than usual. Even Liv was affected. She would tag along and also had her lunch with him.
Rio and Oscar walked back home together that day, as they were walking Rio took a sudden pause. "Hey this is the cake shop I've been looking for!"
"What?"
"Yeah, I saw an advertisement of a new cake shop opening in our town, this is the one!"
"Okay?"
"Wanna grab a quick bite?"
Oscar checked his watch and said, "Sure, I've got time."
"Let's see what is interesting here.... hmmm" Oscar wondered.
"I'll take that Caramel chocolate pastry"
"And I'll have one galaxy chocolate"
"Right way" the man on the counter replied.
The two of them paid for their cakes separately. They sat near the window of the store to get a good view of the outside street as they ate.
"Okay this is good!" Rio was in heaven.
"Is it? I never thought I would see caramel on a cake"
"Yours looks even weirder"
"It's blueberry syrup with sugar balls on it."
"Creative I guess"
"Can I have a bite of yours?"
"Only if I can from yours too"
"Deal?"
"Deal."
They exchanged their quarter plated and simultaneously foodgasmed.
"Yeah, the caramel is really good."
"It is way better than your galaxy though"
"I agree"
They walked back home after that. Both taking a different bus home.

The year started smoothly, new classroom, new teachers, same old classmates.
Just when I was starting to adjust to the peace, a new event had to happen in Oscar's life. Wasn't his life weird as it is?
