The study found that electronic gadgets like smartphones, tablets and laptops emit excessive blue light which can markedly accelerate our aging process. Jadwiga Giebultowicz, the lead author of the study and professor at Oregon State University told that, "Excessive exposure to blue light from everyday devices, such as televisions, laptops and phones may have detrimental effects on a wide range of cells in our body, from skin and fat cells to sensory
neurons."

To conduct this study, the team exposed fruit flies to blue light and compared the levels of metabolites in flies exposed to blue light to those kept in the complete dark for two weeks

To conduct this study, the team exposed fruit flies to blue light and compared the levels of metabolites in flies exposed to blue light to those kept in the complete dark for two weeks. At the conclusion of the two weeks, they observed that the quantities of metabolites they examined in the cells of fly heads were notably altered after exposure to blue light as on exposure to blue light the cells were not functioning at their best and would ultimately lead to premature cell death.

Giebultowicz said that blue light may have adverse effects on humans because the signaling chemicals in flies and human cells
are the same and also since LEDs have become the main source of light not just for screens of various devices, but also in everyday households, humans in general are exposed to blue light through LED lighting as well as multiple screens most of their times.
