Her First High School Fight

The day started as it usually does. Valerie woke up, ate breakfast, and left for school. She met Finney and Gwen on the way as well and Gwen told her about some kid who was bothering her. Apparently this kid had a crush on her but decided to be rude. How does that even make sense?

First period went by really fast. The teacher had already assigned a test and it was only the second week of school. Valerie knew she would need to see Finney about this test since it's on history which is not her specialty.

It was a passing period between 5th period and lunch. Valerie had changed out of her gym clothes and was putting them away in her locker. She threw her bag over her shoulder as her locker slammed in her face. Well shit.

The brunette turned to her right to see a group of girls in front of her. "Hi..?" she scrunched her nose and tried to calm her beating heart. "Don't have time to chitchat. Stay away from Robin, you got it?" The girl stared into Valerie's eyes with a feeling of rage. "Why.?"

"Because!" the blonde shouted, making Valerie flinch and people stop to look at them. "He's supposed to like me!" Valerie looked at the people watching her. What did they think this was? A fight? "What makes you think he's supposed to like you?" The blonde spit in her face. Gross! "He just is, okay?" she said sternly, not breaking eye contact.

The Barnes girl wiped her face. "I don't think he likes you.. like at all. Does he even know who you-" the blonde cut her off with a punch to the face. Valerie lifted her shaking fingers to her nose, revealing blood. That bitch!

Valerie returned the favor with more force. The girl stumbled backwards into her group of friends who caught her and held her up. The blonde rammed her hands into Valerie's shoulders, causing her to fall to the floor. Now that's a disadvantage.

More people began to crowd around the girls, shouting things like 'fight!' and 'kick her ass, Julie!' Julie? Julie Price? What you don't know is that Valerie and Julie used to be close friends before Christine, you know. The thought of her old friends enraged Valerie. She immediately stumbled to her feet, grabbing her bag that had fallen on the floor and starting to walk away.

She didn't get far before her hair was pulled. She grabbed at the hands that were pulling her and fought their grip. It didn't take long for her to be thrown to the ground. Her eyes met Julie's and she huffed. The blonde straddled her and began to throw punch after punch. Valerie could feel her eyes began to flutter shut as Julie was pulled off of her. Guess those fighting lessons she took didn't help that much.

'Valerie? Val! Hey!' The girl tried her best to make out the voice that was shouting at her. She regained her vision after a few seconds and landed her gaze on Finney Blake. She struggled to hold herself up on her elbows as Finney wrapped his arms around her. "Jesus! What the heck!" He squeezed her shoulders and placed his head in her neck. She leaned her head onto his and looked up at a shocked Robin.

"Shit, Barnes. I didn't take you for a fighter." She scoffed at his comment and rolled her eyes. "I'm not. She started it." A teacher came running down the hall as the crowd rushed to their classrooms. "My goodness! Let's get you to the nurse." Valerie began to feel lightheaded as Finney and Robin helped her stand up. "You good? Valerie? Valerie!" was all that was heard before the girl passed out.

She awoke in the nurse's office with a pain in her nose. Yikes, Julie did a number on her. The nurse came over and had her take something for the pain. After that, she was released to class. She walked through the door and took a seat, ignoring the comment the teacher made about her tardiness.

A folded piece of paper was thrown onto her desk. She opened it and read the neatly written message. 'Round 2?' Valerie looked to where the paper had come from and noticed Julie staring at her with a smirk on her face. She wasn't about to let her win. She gave the blonde a thumbs up.

The pain medication had worn off by the end of the school day. There wasn't much to notice since her nose wasn't broken. Julie hadn't been reprimanded since she ran away before the teacher showed up and nobody wanted to snitch. Valerie decided to keep her mouth shut about it too.

She walked out to the school yard and was pulled off of school grounds. Valerie could only assume it was Julie ready for round 2. "Can't we do round 2 tomorrow? So I can catch a break?" She looked up to see Robin staring at her. Her eyes widened and she pulled her arm out of his grasp. "Round 2?" Valerie hummed in response and began to speed walk away.

"Hey, wait! Stop! Why do you want to fight her again?"

"Because that was humiliating!" Valerie turned to face the boy who nearly ran into her. "I need to prove to myself that I can fight if I need to!" Robin tilted his head to the side and chuckled. "What?"

"What was that fight even about, hm?" The brunette smiled at him. "You really want to know?" Robin nodded his head in response. "You. She said that I needed to stay away from you because you're supposed to like her or some shit." Valerie scoffed at the realization of how dumb it was to get punched over that.

"And who is this she?" Robin raised his eyebrows in interest. "Julie Price, why? You gonna beat up a girl?" He shook his head. "No.. just wanted to know who's messing with you." Valerie smiled at her shoes. "That's sweet, but I have to go. I have a shift tonight."

She saluted the boy with two fingers and continued on her way. He watched as she walked away until she wasn't in his line of sight anymore. He sighed and kicked the dirt before walking home.

Robin's POV:

God that girl is making me crazy. She couldn't be anymore perfect. I held the candy bar she had given me at the game the day prior. It was a sweet gesture and I can't fathom eating the delicious chocolate if it means I'll forget about that day.

Valerie's POV:

I love how he cares about me. Even though he shouldn't, I know he'd beat up Julie if he had too. If it meant protecting someone he loved, it doesn't matter the consequence. Wait.. someone he loved? That's going a bit far. Is it though?

okay, I've never been in a fight before so I don't exactly know how it works, but I tried.
