Mission Impossible

We all got into Mrs. Arellano's car. Robin sat in the front seat as me, Gwen, and Finn huddled together in the back. The car smelt of citrus febreeze with a tint of cigarette smoke. Robin was wearing a sleek black suit with a white undershirt. He had dress shoes on that didn't have a single scuff on them. His hair was up in a bun with no flyaways and his skin was clearer than ever. He looked perfect.
I was sat behind him with Gwen farthest from me and Finn right beside me. Gwen kept poking fun at how nervous Finn was to see Donna and dance with her. He had been freaking out internally all day and waited until ten minutes until he would see her to express it. "Gwenny, stop it! I'm scared enough."
"But it's cute when you're nervous!" I added, making everyone in the car laugh except Robin. "Why so solemn, cowboy?"
"What? Sorry. I keep spacing out today."
I furrowed my brows and sighed. "Alrighty then."
The rest of the car ride was filled with bickering, laughter, and cheesy jokes that Robin's mom made up on the spot. Every time she said one, Robin would cover his face with his hands in embarrassment. It was hilarious.
Robin's mom walked us into the gymnasium and took more pictures than anyone would ever need. Or want for that matter.
We all had made our way to the food table and we're making up plates of "chicken" nuggets and mac n' cheese. The food selection was certainly something. Gwen and I had gotten cups of fruit punch while the boys got lemonade. A sparkly dress in the corner of the room caught my eye. It was Julie. She wouldn't stop staring at me with a smirk. What a creep.
We made our way to claim a table when a girl who I'd never met before slammed her hands onto the red cloth, claiming it for her and her friends. "Well shit." I sighed and tried to scope out another empty table. I spotted one in the back corner that had three chairs. We can just take one from someone else. I placed my food on the table and walked over to a group of girls.
"Hi. Are you using this chair?"
They looked at me like I had three heads. I clicked my tongue and nodded my head, slowly walking away. I went up to a couple who had an extra chair.
"Excuse me. Sorry. Can I take this chair?"
"Yeah, sure!"
I'd recognize that voice from a mile away.
"Mallory?"
"Valerie?"
"I thought you were in Idaho!"
"Yeah, well, my mom had a case here in Denver so... here I am."
"That's cool! It's great to see you again."
"You too. And, take that chair. We don't need it." She smiled at me and I quickly returned it. I grabbed the chair from both sides and walked back to the back table. "Finally." Finn scoffed. "Hey! It's not like you could go up to a group of high school girls and ask for a chair." I frowned and sat down. I sipped my punch and listened to the light music that was playing in the background.
