Too Late

It's been a week since we found out about the dance and homecoming was now tomorrow. I've been freaking out because Robin still hasn't asked me! I'm starting to worry that maybe I scared him off when I brought up his trauma. That was a bad move on my part and I wouldn't blame him if he rejected me.

It was time for lunch by the time I grabbed the rest of my books from my locker. I quickly made my way the to cafeteria and scanned the room for Finn and Gwen. I spotted them in the back left corner and walked towards them. We had a good conversation until Robin came over. We shared an awkward glance as he sat down beside Finn, across from me and Gwen.

"So... asked anyone to the dance, Finn?" Robin nudged Finn's shoulder and glanced at Donna's table, implying that he was asking about her. "Not yet. I'm thinking I'll ask her at my baseball game tonight. Hopefully she goes." He looked over at Donna, who's friend, Maya, was looking at him. She definitely wants him to ask her. Maya's had a thing for Finn since the second grade. Kinda creepy now, considering it's been 6 years, but whatever.

"I'm sure she will. I haven't not seen her at one." Gwen reassured her brother with a smile.

"Yeah, and if she doesn't go, ask her tomorrow before the game. I'm most certain that she'll say yes." I added, noticing a smile creep onto Finn's face. Seeing him smile made me smile.

"What about you, Robin?" Gwen asked. "Anyone in mind?"

I looked at him almost immediately. He didn't return my stare and just got up from the table to throw away his half-eaten sandwich. Gwen looked at me with a sorrowful expression. I didn't need anyone's sympathy right now. I just wanted to be alone and process my thoughts.

I stood up out of my seat and grabbed my styrofoam lunch tray. I made my way towards the bathroom down the hall and threw away my food tray in the trash can by the door. I could hear footsteps behind me, making me walk faster. I pushed open the door with force and quickly got into a stall. I'm not going to lie, I thought it was Robin at first, but when I heard the voice, I knew exactly who it was. Julie.

"Valerie? Are you in here?"

No, it's not like you just followed me in here! I wanted to reply, but I refrained and put my knees to my chest as I sat on the toilet.

"I'm joking. I know it's you. Come out, bitch." Her voice had a lot more power in it than it usually does. That's not a good thing. At all. I exited my stall and walked over to the mirror. I could see Julie in the reflection, glaring at me.

"Are you going to say something or just stare at me?"

"Has Robin asked you to the dance yet?"

"No.. why? Did someone say something?"

She made a pfft sound and laughed. "No, nobody's said anything. I was just wondering if I still had a chance to ask him myself."

I turned around to face the blonde who had her arms crossed over her chest.

"You.. want to ask Robin Arellano to the homecoming dance?"

"Yeah?"

"And you're confident he'll say yes?"

"Yeah? Should I not be?" She tilted her head to side and smiled at me.

"No.. I guess not." I began to walk towards the door when she grabbed my wrist.

"I'll let you know how it goes." She smirked one last time and booped my nose. That's when I broke hers. I couldn't help it. She made me so furious to the point where I snapped.

"What the fuck!"

"Whoops. My hand slipped."

I sped out of the bathroom and down the hall, back to the cafeteria. I could feel someone's eyes in the back of my head and that's when I heard it. "Valerie!" I spun around to see Robin running up to me. Once he had caught up, he placed his hands on his knees and attempted to catch his breath.

"What, Arellano?"

"I need to ask you something. And it's really important."

This is it. This is where we would make up for the awkward moment last night and he would ask me to the dance. I was so excited and my heart was, too. It was hard to control my feelings that just wanted to burst out. Then, they all went back into hiding.

"Can you meet me outside the Grab 'n' Go after school? Or whenever you can before Finn's game?"

"Yeah, I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Awesome! Thanks." He clapped his hands together and snapped at me.

"Cya!" He shouted. I just sighed in response. Of course he wasn't going to ask me. If Julie got to ask him, he would, no way in hell, say yes. I mean, come on. How stupid would he have to be to say yes?
