Chapter 21

Once the others were done with their showers, Diana has her turn. She didn't care that the hot water was used up...her skin was numb anyway. She sat at the bottom of the tub with her knees pressed against her chest, the water hits her back as she shakes and thinks about her nightmare.

Natasha had to pull her out of the shower, she was a shivering mess and wouldn't speak. She just sat on the bed in a robe, staring off at the wall.

Steve came in and kneeled down in front of her. He caresses the side of her face and pulls her in to hug him. "I'm gonna kill you all."

"What?" He pulls back, holding onto her hips.

"I saw what I really am...a monster. I killed you all." She finally looks at him.

"You are not a monster."

"You said I was in my nightmare....that I'm the spawn of satan." Her lips tremble as tears threaten to spill.

"I know who you are. You are neither of those. You didn't mean to push me back like that....you were scared." He says reassuringly.

"You don't know what I can really do..."

"I know you Diana...you won't hurt us." He smiles.

"And my parents...I barely remember my childhood but I remember I was alone until they found me. Showed me love. Thor's father killed them...he lied to me all my life. And he knew, Steve. Thor knew this whole time."

"Diana I'm so sorry." He hugs her again.

"Wanda made me see the nightmare I always have every night...of Bucky coming home to me. Our children. Then him turning back into the winter soldier. She....I know she's a kid but...I wanted to hurt her after that. I wanted to kill her..."

"Diana..."

"This is why I'm a monster. I have these thoughts...or I hear whispers as I read my spells, telling me to use my power for bad things..." Diana stands up and walks past him, using her power to change into regular clothes. "I can't trust myself..." She quickly rushes downstairs.

Later that night, Nick had joined for dinner. Diana stayed back alone and listened as he spoke. "Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of Vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing."

"What about Ultron himself?" Steve asks.

"Ah. He's easy to track, he's everywhere. Guy's multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. Still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans though."

"He still going after launch codes?" Tony asks, playing darts with Clint.

"Yes, he is, but he's not making any headway."

Tony chuckles. "I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare."

"Yeah, well, I contacted our friends at the Nexus about that."

"Nexus?" Steve asks.

"It's the world internet hub in Oslo, every byte of data flows through there, fastest access on earth."

"So what'd they say?" Clint asks.

"He's fixated on the missiles, but the codes are constantly being changed."

"By whom?" Tony asks.

Nick shrugs, "Parties unknown."

"Do we have an ally?"

"Ultron's got an enemy, that's not the same thing. Still, I'd pay folding money to know who it is." Nick shakes his head.

"I might need to visit Oslo, find our unknown."
