Screams are disappearing into the darkness, sirens have been devoured whole by the cries of help, and the only sound left is the everlasting crackle of the fire, burning the remainder of the gym as lives and purity rip away with the thick smoke. I look towards the gym, the doors are wide enough only a jar for me to peer inside to see nothing except a shield of black protection from the mess behind it.

I scan the doors and as my eyes travel down the door frame I see what is keeping the door slightly ajar, a burned hand is lying limp on the ground as the rest if the body is stuck behind the thick gym doors, blocking this girl from freedom. I race over to her praying to hear a heartbeat but is responded by an echoing silence bouncing around her hollow chest.

I pull my sleeve together to my mouth before swinging open the doors and dragging her body out of the way, the doors immediately click back together as the sound echoes throughout the motionless hallway.

I repeatedly shake the small girl's shoulders and place my ear over her heart to hear anything, anything at all. So as I sit there in the middle of the hallway praying for something, nothing as this unconscious girl with cauterised legs and stomach lies limp in front of me soulless, I wonder how he was and how her day was before this happened and If she had after school plans. "LAYNA! GET OUT OF THERE" A man shouts at me his voice travelling through the empty room, I stare at him before picking up this lifeless girl in my arms and running towards him, the man gives me a strange look before leading me outside to exit the building.
