I feel as if I have been here for hours when in fact I haven't. My vision and hearing has still remained impaled as I feel my body being moved. I try to pry my eyes open with the strength I believe I have but it doesn't work, my hearing has slowly started to come backs as I hear the occasional phrases ' Take her to the emergency department' 'Call her father' 'Is he coming?' 'Have they came yet?' I try to force my eyes to open but I can only manage to see glimpses of a continuous line of lines staring right back at me. Sometimes a nurse would lean slightly closer to me so I was able to catch a sight of her panicked face; I wonder if the girl is here, and if her parents have been able to see how lifeless and cold her body is; Anna, I think her name was. I used to be friends with her in 5th grade but we grew distant. Funny what time does.
My vision slowly starts to creep back, allowing me to see more than I could before. I can finally register that three nurses are pushing me; on a stretcher, to the recovery ward. I wonder if my Dad will be there, waiting for me, with a bouquet of flowers... probably not. I watch as we go down several aisles, I watch as patients lie in their hospital beds sleeping or when they have a visitor and how happy their face lights up. "Where's Anna?" I ask, hoping one of the nurses heard me; "Who, dear?" "Anna, the girl I saved from the fire, she arrived here before me".
The nurse gives me a confused look before I add, "She was severely burned all over her body; from Satcherman High". The elderly woman finally realises who I am talking about and quietly mumbles "She just went into surgery" "Oh" Is all I can say, how bad was she injured? Is she okay? "She's fine, Hun, just you rest and worry about that later, okay". The woman smiles obviously reading my worried facial expression. "Okay" I mumble before falling asleep when I am pulled into a small room.
