I follow after Alex onto the bus, he smiles at the driver and hands him a handful of coins to pay for both me and himself. "Thanks" I mumble as walk down rhea long nus aisle with her child.
"Are you okay?" Alex asks,
"What? Yeah I'm fine, why?" I reply turning back to face him.
"You just seem I don't know, I bit out of it I guess. I mean I don't really know you but if I did" he sighs, "Never mind".
I nervously laugh "I guess I never realised" I shyly smile, he smiles back;
"So, how has your day been besides from almost being blown to pieces in that explosion back there?"
"Ha-ha well, It was okay I visited my mother earlier and I was going to pick up something at the medical centre but I ended up here" I laugh "What about you?"
"I was just visiting my friend and I was on my way back now".
The bus screeches to a stop as an elderly woman walks across the pedestrian crossing breaking us from our conversation. The silence returns forcing me to stare out the window, the small town quickly disappears as we exit onto the motorway, the bus speeds up as the cars around us do. The trees and bushes vanishing into the concrete walls and light posts surrounding the rows of traffic. We speed past the traffic full-lanes due to the fact that buses have a 'special' bus lane; and before long we're driving past the several city attraction signs. My phone makes a quiet buzz in my pocket, I reach my phone out of my pocket to see another text:
083 027 5016
Figure it out.
What? My phone buzzes again-
083 027 5016
Where am I?
"What's that? "Alex asks leaning over to look closer,
"I'm not too sure, actually"
"Figure it out, eh..." He sighs concentrating at the bold letters.
083 027 5016
Remove 0
"Hmm.... Does that mean?" he furrows his eyebrows trying to decode the message. "Layna! I got it I know what it means!"
"What?" I question,
"Remove the zero's- from the number" Alex explains.
I pull out a notebook and pencil from my purse, I quickly scribble the number down, writing it now without the zeros:
83 27 5 16
"See?"
"I don't get it..." I trail off,
"83 is the area code for the city"
"Oh okay..?" I question still confused.
"It's not just a number its co-ordinates"
"For what?"Alex shrugs his shoulders instead of replying , I sigh and he starts to continue to explain "27 is the street, as in, 27th Street" That's a little while downtown not very far from the bus stop, I nod my head to continue. "5, is the number; so 5 ,27th Street"
"And '16'?"
"Maybe it's a floor number?" He questions. The bus pulls to a stop as we arrive at the bus stop "Guess I'll have to find out" I sigh; my phone beeps vibrating amongst my hand:
083 027 5016
Time is what prevents everything from happening at once.
Quickly Layna.
