I sigh in relief as I realise I chose the right direction to walk in, I walk faster in anticipation, my strides quickening with each breath I take and each lamppost I go past. The skyscrapers have towered over the small street, shadowing me from the sun, only providing the shelter of darkness. I squint ahead hoping to see the building- which I do; I run the last few steps as I'm greeted by a short flight of concrete stairs.
The tall auburn doors, loom over me; matching the building's height. I gently knock on the door and listen as my quiet knock echoes through the emotionless tower, a small elderly woman gently unlocks and opens the door; almost doubling in her height."Yes?" She asks in a quiet whisper, almost as if she doesn't want anyone else to hear her fragile voice. Not being certain of what to say I mumble, "Hi, I was told to go here; I think" I awkwardly say in the middle of the door frame, she gives me a strange look almost questing my statement, "Sorry, I guess this is the wrong address" I apologise starting to turn around and walk back down the stairs.
She rapidly approaches me whilst remaining in the door frame and grabs my forearm causing me to spin around, "Layna?" she questions, I confusingly nod back to her instead of speaking. It was almost as if a light bulb flashes in her mind and she opens the door wide enough to let me enter, she gently tugs at my arm gesturing for me to go inside; the floorboards begin to gently creak as I step on the thin wooden panels them making my way into the over-crowded living room.
The walls have been lined with a sparkling white paint, the only thing in the room being a small wooden stool centred in the middle of the room. I expect for the women to say something cheesy like 'I've been expecting you' or, 'I've been waiting for you' but she doesn't. We stand in the room looking at each other, the birds quietly tweeting outside, and the wind making quiet whistles against the trees and buildings.
