I wake to see my Dad looking out the window his hands behind his back, glasses slightly peering over his perched nose. "Dad?"
"Good Morning Layna!" He exclaims while turning around to face me, why are is he in my room? Before I get the chance to ask he speaks; "What would you like to do today since it' a free-day?" my Dad questions, I never really got why it was called a 'free-day', I guess it is a day without schedules and time limits, still.
"I don't mind really"
"So, how are you feeling?"
"Fine, better than I was"
"Well, that's great, I'll see you downstairs in..." He checks his watch "Say about 10 minutes..?"
I nod, as he exits my room; I listen as the thuds of his footsteps as they travel around the house.
I quickly get changed and head downstairs to see my Dad on the phone "...Do you think she'll pass? ... Huh okay, How many tests? Okay, talk later." He hangs up and turnsaround to face me.
"The doctors called, your medication is ready to be picked up; we can get it later today If you want?"
"Uh sure" I say whilst picking at a piece of toast my Dad made for me,
"Who were you talking to...just before?" I question.
"A friend from work, why?"
"Just wondering, I guess"
"Oh alright then"
"Are we visiting Mum today?" I soon realised this was a pointless question because each free-day we get we always visit Mum,
"Yes, just after breakfast we'll go."
I finish eating the slices of buttered toast and cup of orange juice, while reading the newspaper:
TESTS GETTING HARDER?
Studies show that students are facing difficult tests nowadays, becoming more complex than they were before. They have to try harder now, to complete these tests than ever. Everything they do and say is counted, it all goes towards their test.
"Layna, Are you ready to go?" My Dad shouts breaking me from my trance of reading the newspaper.
"Yeah, where to, again?"
"Layna..." He sighs, "To visit your mother, then we're going to pick up your medicine from the hospital. Now come on we're wasting time."
