Jade
"Hello?" I opened my eyes and hit the answer button on my steering wheel when a call came through.
"Hey, Jade."
"Jessica, where the fuck are you?" I asked, letting my seat back up. My blood boiled the moment I heard her voice.
"How is he?" She asked.
"You don't get to ask me that! You left him!" I yelled.
"I left him with his other parent. He was safe." She replied.
"You don't even know me, Jessica. How can you assume that? You just took off. You didn't say a word. Never mind you dumping him on me in a fucking bar, when I was nowhere near ready. Did you ever stop to imagine how he must've felt? How scared he probably was? You were all he's known for years and you just abandoned him. That's sick. You should be ashamed of yourself. Where did you even go?" I asked angrily.
"I needed some time." She sighed. "I needed a break."
"Okay, and you couldn't communicate that?" I asked. "Look, I don't want anything to do with you, but unfortunately I'm stuck with you at least until my son turns eighteen. You're going to have to do better than you're doing."
"I think you're forgetting we just hit reset on that." She laughed, making me even angrier.
"I refuse to believe that's my baby." I shook my head. "Nice try though."
"If you say so." She laughed. "Anyway, I'm home now. Bring him to me."
"No." I replied.
"What? Who do you think you are?!" She yelled.
"It seems like the only responsible person in his life at the moment. He's safe, and stable. You get your shit together." I said.
"Jade, you can't keep my baby from me!" She yelled.
"No? I thought that's what you wanted when you left him with me." I said.
"I said I needed a break!" She said.
"Well, you've got one. Get your shit together. You might want to plan better with this next baby and whoever the father is." I said.
"It's yours, dumb ass!" She yelled. "I keep trying to tell you!"
"How far along are you?" I asked.
"Why does it matter?" She scoffed.
"Because if it's mine I want to fucking know!" I yelled.
"I'm three months." She huffed.
"And you're at home?" I asked.
"Yes, Jade." She replied.
"Perfect. Get dressed. I'm on my way." I replied.
"What? For what reason?" She asked.
"So we can find out." I said.
"We don't need to find out. I know." She said.
"Okay and I don't trust you, so we're going. Be ready." I said, pulling away from the curb down the street from my mom's house.
"We're not going anywhere!" She yelled. "Bring me my baby!"
"I don't want to fight you, Jessica, but I'm telling you. I am not having a good day, or month at all, and the way I'm feeling, I'm likely to put your head through a wall. I said be ready!" I growled and then hung up.
I shouted frustratedly and banged my fists on the steering wheel. Then I drove away. Before I made my way to her, I went to check into a motel to shower and clean up, since I'd spent the night in my car.
