______________MAXINE was cautious when she was sneaking her way to her neighbors house, she wanted to hopefully try and hear her bestfriend.
She snuck out her window, and landed on the grass. Hissing at the sharp pain but getting up anyways.
Max walked carefully, stepping up on the porch and knocking slowly on the door.
She hesitated, but waited for a answer and gripped the pocket knife she had in her palm just incase.
A dog barking could be heard on the other side of the door, and then a screaming man.
The door slowly opened, and then when he saw it was Max he opened the door fully.
"Hi Maxine, what brings you here?" The black haired man spoke, Max never cared to figure his name out. Only who else was in this house with him.
"Hey uh, my mom isn't home and our phone broke. I need to call her.. it's urgent." She told him, he opened the door as she walked in, immediately being disgusted by the smell.
If gym socks, dog breath, and cocaine were a room, this would be the room.
She gagged, and nearly threw up but covered her mouth up and walked towards the phone, glancing behind her.
He was cleaning his cocaine up, so she slipped away and walked around , attempting to find something.
Max couldn't find anything, there was a guy with gray hair that kept looking her up and down, and he smirked at her.
She cleared her throat and walked to the black haired guy.
"Thank you, I called my mom. She's uhm- at the store." She mentioned, he looked up and smiled at her, guiding her out of the house.
Maxine looked ahead of her, and saw how the house across was empty but had been bought.
She got suspicious, so she ran back to her home and the phone began ringing.
She dropped her backpack and picked the phone up.
"Mom? Is that you?" She asked, static was all she heard before a voice spoke.
"Maxine. Youre smart, it's the house across."
She froze, slowly turning around after a rush of wind hit her back.
"Uhm?.. Who the hell is this?" Her eyebrows furrowed, she didn't know who it was, and tried to ignore the voice in the back of her head telling her it was Bruce.
"That's not important Maxi, you need to be ready. Delphine and Vance are gonna die soon, you need to call the cops in 2 days on Sunday, that will be the day." The voice said to her, her eyes widened and she began walking back and forth.
"Only Bruce called me Maxi, but that's not the point. Is Del okay? God I bet she's losing her mind down there with him- wait. Bruce are you?.."
"Dead? Yeah. I've been dead for a while now. Delphine's fine actually.. she likes Vance, and they are getting along."
"Oh. Fuck, Delphine is gonna be so distraught when she finds out your dead."
"She knows, she wishes she didn't though. She cries sometimes in Vance's arms about it, it's upsetting."
"Mm... Okay, bye Bruce. Have a nice uh ghost life?.."
"Will do Maxi, bye!"
She hung the phone back up, a tear slipping past her eyelashes.
Maxine used to love Bruce, they liked eachother but then they stopped speaking cause of her mother.
Those feelings were still there, and she didn't know how to feel about realizing he was gone.
She has a ghost lover, and she didn't like it.
_______________
THEY never thought of how they would die, Delphine always thought of saving someone and dying for it was the way she wanted to go, and that's what she was thinking.
She knew in a few days that they would be dead, hopefully only her and Vance would make it out.
But she also knew that Vance wouldn't do good without her.
He never had been, when she wasn't there he would get into fights.
When she got hurt and couldn't fight back, he would fight them for her and let his pent up anger out.
Being near and with her for almost 2 weeks now made him upset to think about not being near her.
He wanted to stay with her for the rest of his life, but he didn't know how he would.
He hoped that if anything, they would both die together and be happy in the afterlife side by side.
But he also hoped that worst case scenario, Delphine would make it out and he wouldn't.
He didn't care what his future was, only if Del was in it.
And if she wasn't, he didn't want it. He wanted his world to revolve around her, he wanted to grow old with her and argue like an old married couple.
They were sitting on the bed together, Delphine compromising a plan and hoping that Vance would catch along and help her with to so they could escape together.
Delphine heard footsteps above them, she opened the basement door slightly and peeked out, hearing a voice talking in the kitchen.
She then recognized that voiced, and almost fell down the stairs.
She ran down the stairs and slammed the door behind them, panting and closing her eyes shut.
"What the hell? Are you okay D?" Vance asked her, not knowing what was happening.
"No. I think Maxine got kidnapped V.." She whispered, he looked at her cause he didn't realize Maxine was that Maxine, until it hit him.
"Oh. Shit okay. That's not bad or anything."
"You think dipshit?!" She yelled, he raised his hands in defense and looked around, hoping the topic would change.
Vance knew about Max, he knew that they weren't close anymore and he knew that Delphine still loved her to death.
He hoped that Maxine was okay for once, that she was safe for the sake of Delphine.
"Hey Del?"
"Yeah V?"
"Do you maybe wanna be my girlfriend?"
........
Delphine stared at him, and then her face lit up.
"Of course I do, dummy. Weird timing but yeah." She accepted, smiling as he smiled back at her.
Delphine prayed that Maxine was safe, but also hoped that Bruce and Robin somehow were with her.
