"Hey, Krensa! Get over here!" My friends lowly yelled from a high up perch on the monarch's castle, "I'm coming!" I respond.

We were thieves, living off what we could find and getting challenges for money from the tavern near the border of the Bright Lives, that's what we call the high ups, the ones with money, who didn't have to fight for a healthy and stable life.

Us? Three of us are Elves, supposed to be a majestic species, but thanks to democracy we're almost at the bottom of the pyramid. We have one human and one fire orc on our team, sometimes we're feared, sometimes we get into more trouble than we can cause.

This steampunk dystopia started back when the king and queen assorted themselves as leaders, putting up prices and wages, things we as teenagers couldn't keep up on.

And here we are, trying to sneak in to the castle to steal stuff, just to pay off debt and be able to travel the world, just me and my four friends. "Do you see that?" Halo said, pointing her finger on one of the throne room's skylights.

"But how do we get to it?" Theoden spoke as I tried to peek, managing to sneak through their leg spaces and seeing they had the Golden Eye Calis on target.

"I can make it, I can fit" I said. "What about the guards?" Makaela, spoke. "We can throw rocks at the window and distract them for enough time" Ash, responded with quick thinking. "That sounds good" I agreed.

Halo shushed us in a panic, she was also an Elf, a light elf like me, Theoden on the other hand was a forest elf, though there was no forest around.

Makaela looked at her and asked, "what the hell is wrong with-" she was shut by Halo's hand on her mouth as she pointed through the ceiling skylight at a pale white dragon.

It had missing scales and gashes that were already scars, spikes going on his back but those weren't spikes, that was it's spine. How could the royals have it so malnourished? Or was it already like this?

I held my breath and lightly spoke, "we need this, Halo. We'll make it quick, in and out. WITHOUT waking it up." I whispered adding emphasis on it looking at Ash, who already had boulders in his hands, he sighed and put the boulders away taking out small pebbles.

Theoden tied the rope around me as I squeezed through the skylight right above the Calis, I nodded and Ash started throwing the pebbles at the windows, managing to distract the guards making them go and check. I tug one time making Halo and Theoden start lowering me.

I was nervous for some reason and I felt my heart start racing, I've done lots of jobs, why now? I used to get tachycardia all of a sudden but it had stopped when I started taking in missions, since my mind was already busy thinking about other stuff I didn't think deeply of the dangers.

I felt a tug on the rope, looking down I saw that I was already hovering over the Calis, I quickly checked for traps around it, noticing it was on a pressure plate thanks to a string attached to the tail of the dragon.

I slowly took one of the "just in case" rocks I had on my pouch and managed to slip it under the Calis, taking it off the pillar without the trap going off. I look up as I started seeing blurry. Dammit. I quickly snapped the Calis' handle on my belt making it hang off and started tugging quickly.

I didn't want to faint, not here, it would jeopardize all of us.

As I felt Halo and Theoden pulling the rope up I stopped hearing the pellets. Did Ash run out? I felt myself going up faster until I heard yelling from underneath. They spotted me!

I tried to climb the rope in a panic as my friends were pulling me out but I fell a warm breath on my back, I slowly turn around and see the dragon eyeing me intensely.

"....good puppy?..." I speak sweating. Quickly tugging on the rope.

Suddenly I was blinded by daylight and I could hear Halo saying my name.

"Come on, wake up...Krensa!" I jolt upwards as I felt water hit my face. Catching my breath Theoden starts rubbing my back.

"Are you okay?" He spoke. I could only watch my surroundings for what I thought was real, quickly my hand traveled to my belt, taking out the Golden Eye Calis.

I see Makaela and Ash quickly come as their eyes beamed and they smiled. "YOU DID IT!" Ash screamed glad we managed to get the target, though he was excited, he alerted the guards.

"HEY, UP THERE!" A guard said from underneath while pointing at us. "Shit!" Halo said quickly grabbing my arm, she turns to me, "Can you walk?".

I tried to get up but my legs were still out of it, I simply shook my head starting to go into panic. "You guys go, take the Calis, I'll be fine-" Theoden interrupted me, "She asked if you could walk, not for a goodbye testament" he said.

He picked me up by one arm, putting it over his shoulder. Halo grabbed the other laughing at Theoden's comeback.

"Guys, I'll just slow you down!" I tried convincing them to get away, Makaela and Ash already jumping over buildings and bridges to get a head start and distract the guards.

Halo looked at Theoden and gave him a nod, "we go on three, one, two...three!" They both manage to become my supports as my legs managed to gain back their strength, what would I ever do without these idiots who risk their lives for me...

Running over rooftops, jumping over alleys, parkouring, everything in unision, just because they wouldn't leave me behind. These idiots...

Ash and Makaela joined our rush a few blocks after, now just Halo holding me up and Theoden carrying the Calis, hidden in his jacket just in case we needed to split up.

"Are you guys okay?" I asked Makaela and Ash. Ash looked like he had taken shots of uncontrolled adrenaline, he was sweating like crazy but he looked like he still wanted to run over the entire city. "Never better!" He breathlessly responded.

"We need to get home and lay low for a while, this stunt was a really big one" Halo spoke. I could only catch my breath, still not being able to process well what had happened back at the castle.
