I peeked through a crack on the thick cement wall we had built. Staring blindly like a deer on headlights, I heard screams and what I saw was going to change our way of life forever.

A creature, with human hands and arms for antlers, it had a humanoid body but this wasn't human. Nor Elven. In fact, it was EATING a human. What the hell was this?

I felt my blood leave my face, about to scream when I felt a hand on my mouth pulling me backwards, I tried to fight the person off until I saw it was just Theoden. I sighed in relief.

He motioned a finger over his lips as if telling me to keep quiet. I knew we lived on the outskirts of the Lower Grounds and weird creatures did appear, but that was no creature, that was a monster.

I motioned at the wall and he peeked, stepping back while grabbing a long machete we had acquired on one of our missions.

"What's goin-" I tried whispering but felt Theoden's hand on my mouth again and saw him staring into my eyes, he looked scared and nervous but like he was up to protecting us.

I nodded and he took his hand off my mouth and signaled the hammock, all of the lights were off so I guessed he meant for me to go back to sleep. But how could I. That thing out there...

I got in my hammock which was right underneath Makaela's, but I couldn't close my eyes. I then heard the door moving, I quickly sat up and saw Theoden stepping out.

I tried to get there before the door closed but I didn't, I tried to go and get Halo but she wasn't on her hammock, nor was Makaela.

What is happening... I heard an ear blowing shriek that I'm guessing came from the creature. Covering my ears I went back to the wall with the crack and checked what was going on.

Theoden was fighting that thing. Jumping around and catching it off guard, as a forest Elf, Theoden had the gift to be able to jump higher than any of us, it was in his blood.

At one last blow the creature fell, thumping as it slumped to the ground. Then Makaela and Halo came out of some nearby bushes holding someone hostage.

I ran and opened the door quickly stepping out to go with them. Right as I turn the corner of the building I see the person they were holding hostage kneeling in front of Theoden, being held still by Halo.

I look at them shocked. "Guys..." I softly spoke, not knowing what to say. The three of their heads all turned to me, Makaela coming straight toward me.

"It's alright Krensa, we're just doing a midnight job", she spoke. "What was that thing...?" I point at the slumped creature on the ground and look at Theoden.

"It was sent to hunt you" Theoden answered. "Not hunt, KILL yo-" the guy on his knees spoke before Halo punched him in the face.

"It's all going to be alright, you're not in danger anymore" Makaela spoke. Halo was being awfully quiet, but I could see why.

"We'll explain in details later, take him back inside" Theoden said as Makaela walked me back inside.

I could hear Theoden talking when all of a sudden I heard a punch, then a thump as if someone had fallen to the ground unconscious. "What was that?" I spoke worried.

Makaela was holding me back so I couldn't do much but just listen to grunts and hits being shared. "Please, we need to help them!" I tried budging but she didn't let go. "I'm sorry Krensa"

Suddenly a slice and a scream were heard, thankfully it wasn't Theoden's nor Halo's. But the door busted open to show Theoden carrying Halo who had a knife impaling her lower torso and looked like she was convulsing.

"Halo!" Makaela spoke as I rushed to the bathroom getting the emergency supplies we had gotten and rushing over to the counter in the kitchen.

"Put her here" moving everything to the side I quickly opened the kit. I had healed other people before, but not Halo, the fear of failing was now too much.

"What the fuck happened?!" Makaela asked trying to help me put stuff out of the way. "He must've gotten her while they were fighting-" Theoden struggled speaking without dropping Halo.

"Dammit!" She screamed as they set her down. "Try help her slow down her breathing!" I say trying to keep her still to be able to lift her shirt to see the wound.

As I lift the shirt up she screamed. Blood was covering her entire right side. Dark veins starting to emerge from the opening of the wound, as if they were Feasting on her muscles and nervous system.

Makaela leaves for a second then comes back with a pillow putting it under Halo's head and a small cloth which she wraps on Halo's mouth, "bite if you need to just try to calm down!" She tried getting her to her senses.

"Dammit! Krensa, start doing something! She's bleeding out!"
I look down on the wound shaking my head, I quickly run to my bag and take out a book I had found on a library theft we had accomplished, "Elven Cures", no other way to find out of it works unless we try it.

Quickly coming back I look at the wound and try comparing it to any antidote spells...found it! Laying the book down on the table next to her I look at Theoden and then at Makaela.

"I need to take the knife out." I say. "Are you crazy? She'll bleed out!" Makaela speaks. "What are you trying to do?" Theoden asks still trying to keep Halo on the table with all the kicks shes throwing.

"The bandages won't do anything! It's enchanted! She'll die if we don't try this!" I point at the book. "What if it doesn't work?" He says. "It has to." I reply sternly as I put my hand on the knive's handle looking at Makaela as she grabbed Halo's ankles holding them down.

"Please forgive me" I whisper looking at Halo's pained expression. Quickly I pull out the knife, hearing a blood curling noise come from her. Feeling her trying to get away from the place she was on, actually seeming stronger than the two older people holding her down.

I recite the spell on the book trying to see if anything I was saying was working. To my surprise, it wasn't. Was I saying it wrong?

I keep repeating it over and over again going into more panic, until I let go of the book and put my hands on the wound making pressure, despite Halo's cries. I recite it again, this time, eyes closed, concentrated, breathing deeply.

I felt Halo's body become less tense and stop moving around, I feared it hadn't worked. Until I open my eyes and see the bleeding had stopped. I smile and look at her face, she looked at me relieved, she had tears flowing but it didn't look like she was convulsing, and the dark veins were there anymore.

Theoden lets go of her wrists letting her get comfortable as I start bandaging the wound. She takes off the cloth managing to catch her breath. I feel Makaela stand next to me, offering Halo a little bit of water which she gladly took.

Theoden puts his hand on my shoulder, "you did it...you used an elven cure" he whispers without other words. I nod and feel Halo grab my hand as she closes her eyes to rest.

"She'll be okay, I guess Theoden was the one to be knocked down first" Makaela said putting her hand on my shoulder.

I slightly nod and lay my head down on my arm, holding Halo's hand, "I'll stay here just in case, you guys go and rest" I whisper.

She nods and puts her hand on my head before leaving to sleep. Why did they have to protect me...I'm not as fragile as they think I am. I looked for a blanket and covered Halo in it, covering myself with my coat before falling asleep, sitting on a chair, head over the table.

Author's note: I'm caught up in school so It'll take a while to upload in between days, I also need to start writing chapter 5 with the little gray aliens :] But anyways, I hope you liked this chapter, wanted to add a little more thriller to this one. I hope it came out well, though it might sound a bit cheesy type of thrill
