She put on a black wrap top with blue jeans, after wearing a pair of Nike air maze 1 and finished her look with a charcoal woven baseball cap and gold circle studs.
"We don't want to be late for your brother's game Ivory, hurry up."
Her mum yelled from downstairs "I'm coming!" She put on a little lip gloss before running downstairs "How do I look?" she pouted her lips
"Beautiful but we don't want to be late." She continued as they walked to the Audi Q8 waiting for them.
"Sorry I took so long." She said as she got into the backseat "It's okay." Her father answered as he drove out of the driveway and overtook the slow Cadillac CT4 infront of him.
"We'll be on time that's for sure."
Ivory was certain that if her father didn't have the kind of job he had now, he would have been a star on the race track. She put on her earplugs and listened to HER and YG's slide. The drive was certain to be long because Ambrose's university was across town.
"We're here."
Her mum announced cheerfully as she got out of the car. Mason and Edmund approached them and exchanged pleasantries "Let's get seats." Robert said and walked away with Gold while the kids followed behind them.
" You're looking nice." Mason said to stop the awkward silence between them. She took a long look at the white t shirt, black hoodie, ripped jeans and black vans he had on.
"You're looking cool."
"What about me?" Edmund asked, he was wearing dark ripped jeans and a Nike colour blocked half zip hoodie.
"You look ridiculous." Mason joked but Ed shoved him away "You look awesome ... " She pointed at Mason "and he's a jerk."
"Exactly." Ed agreed "I'm gonna get a new varsity jacket at the mall tomorrow, can you come?"
"I'm gonna be busy. I have an appointment and I'm going out with a friend."
"Which friend?" Mason inquired "Fabian."
"And you didn't tell me." He huffed
"Relax. It slipped off my mind. You know I always tell you everything." He looked away but slowly nodded.
"I guess so."
The rest of the walk was quiet as they wove through the packed crowd but they made it in time for the game to start.
Ambrose smiled in their direction as they cheered for him. If he was lucky enough, he'll make the NBA draft after his senior year. The game was smooth at first but then the teams were soon in a draw, Ivory clutched her seat and screamed her head off when Ambrose was able to get the ball through the net.
Her brother truly made an amazing point guard.
After the game, they went to DeKalb county's Italian to celebrate. It was their usual hangouts after games be it successful or not, they made sure to celebrate their wins or mourn their loss in the restaurant.
As they held the menu, Ambrose's voice started "I missed you guys to be honest."
"We missed you too." Gold answered as she sat down next to her firstborn "It was a splendid game."
"The team trained hard for this mum. I miss your stuffed chicken rolls." Robert laughed "You mean you miss overeating them. They were always your favourite."
He hung his head "I lost the weight at least." The waiter came over to take their order of shrimp marinara and kale lasagne.
"Dad you should try the granita they have here."
"Maybe some other time."
Ivory scoffed inwardly remembering the first time they visited the restaurant. Ambrose was too ambivalent and didn't know what to order and now he was giving suggestions.
She held back a scoff
"How's our central midfielder doing?"
"Good."
The waiter came over for a wine order "Moscato d'ashi." Robert replied.
They always had wine for every game. "Your game is next week right?"
Mason nodded
"I'll surely be there."
"How's my lil sis?" She smiled "Fine."
"Has Fabian talked to you yet?"
"He did. How do you know him?"
"He asked for my permission to ask you out." Her eyes widened "And you gave it to him?" she almost shrieked
"Why not? If he does anything stupid, Leonard will pay for his sins." Ambrose pointed out with his fork prompting Ed to laugh.
"There he is." Ambrose added and her eyes went up to a guy wearing a champion logo sweatshirt following a woman in crepe wrap maxi dress presumably his aunt and another guy his age, maybe a bit older in black shorts and red tank tops .
She waved at him and he waved back. Sometime later, he came over and introduced himself then talked to everyone on the table for a while before leaving.
"He's a nice guy."
"Yeah. I know." Ivory answered "So are you two dating?" Ed asked and all eyes turned to her.
"No."
She answered sternly making Robert and Mason to give off a sigh of relief.
"You can't have wine Ed. I'll get you a bottle of Coke zero."
"I can sip a little right?"
"Sure but only a little." Ed nodded and watched Mason leave "How are your parents?" Robert inquired.
"They're good. Dad took mum out on a date hence their absence but they did send their regards."
"That's lovely. Sends ours too."
Their order arrived at that point. Just when a girl with violet eyes and platinum blonde hair in a black oversized side split midi jumper dress came up to their table.
Ambrose stood up and put his arm around her as Mason took his seat on the table.
"Everyone meet Olive, my girlfriend." She waved at us with a smile.
"Hi."
Gold stood up to give her a hug "Beautiful name you have there. I'm his mum nice to meet you."
We took turns to introduce ourselves "You should come over for dinner." Robert suggested "We'll come on Wednesday after school." Ambrose answered for her.
"It was nice meeting you all but I have to go meet my family." Gold nodded in understanding "Don't forget to come over to ours for dinner."
"I won't forget...bye."
They bade her goodbye and watched as Ambrose pecked her lips.
"Urrgh."
Ambrose smiled
"You have to get used to that now."
"No thanks."
Ivory countered and started eating as they were served "Like you won't be doing that and more with Fabian."
She cringed at the thought
"Shut your dirty mouth."
Finally we have an appearance from Ambrose Johnson
