During the three days of Hunter and Garfield's suspension, every day after school Will and Emma would help me strengthen my Gift. At first, we started with small things like pencils. Then we slowly started progressing to things like small boulders (which almost killed a squirrel that was living nearby). I grew stronger every day. I still didn't master it, but I could do enough to carry out with my prank.

When Hunter was asleep on the day he came back, Will was in his bed pretending to sleep so he could make sure Hunter was still sleeping. I snuck in their room and hid under Will's desk. I could hear Hunter's heavy breathing. I set the red-eyed teddy bears that Will drew earlier in front of Hunter's bed. Will told us that Hunter confessed he had a fear of teddy bears. I willed all my energy to making all three of them float. As part of the plan, Will shook Hunter fervently. Hunter sat up quickly in a daze. I tried so hard not to look over and see his reaction as Will pointed at the teddy bears speechlessly.

The second I heard Hunter's gasp, that was my signal to start moving the teddy bears slowly toward Hunter. He started moving back towards the wall in fright. I heard him whimper of fright. My sympathy overcame the enjoyment of the prank and I let them drop to the ground. Then I jumped out from under the desk and screamed, "DIE!" Hunter was so startled and let out an ear-splitting scream that even Emma could not create. Will and I collapsed with laughter and Emma burst through the door with the banner that said Congratulations Aspen on it.

"Is it too late?" she asked.

"Yep," I said.

"Oh. Well can I still say it?"

"Go for it," I replied.

"Aspen received her Gift!" Emma exclaimed. Hunter looked at me with mixed emotions. He looked angry and scared and congratulatory all at the same time.

"Well congrats I guess," Hunter said still flustered from being so startled. Will had an amused look on his face while Emma just bit the inside of her thumb, a new habit she had developed from being so stressed out about exams. I whacked her hand to take her out of her trance.

Sorry about scaring you. I just had to do it. And in my defense, I didn't think you would be that scared of teddy bears. Hunter let out a sigh.

Yeah whatever. It wasn't cool but I have to admit if it were me, I would have done the same thing. Also I've been wondering. Do you think we should see Professor Nunes about this mind thing that we're doing right now? I mean no one else at school never said that they can mentally speak with their friends.

I thought about this and realized it was true. No one had ever actually said anything about it. What if it isn't normal? Yes, we should, I replied. Emma and I left and went back to our rooms. Emma was super tired and would not stop mumbling about teddy bears.

The next morning after our last class, Hunter and I headed in the direction of Professor Nunes' office. After knocking on the door several times without a reply, Hunter just opened the door.

"What are you doing?!" I said, "she could be busy or something."

"Well then she would have come out and told us to come another time," Hunter replied. Hunter walked through the door. Despite my protests, I followed. Professor Nunes was sitting cross legged on the floor with her eyes closed. She looked as if she were in a trance. I don't even think she heard us come in. Beads of sweat were dripping down her forehead. It's not even that hot in there. I felt as if though we were intruding on something private. I started dragging Hunter out of the room but then I heard, "Aspen. Hunter. Come back in here," Professor Nunes commanded.

"Sorry Professor. We knocked but no one answered. So we came in just to see if you were still in here and you were doing ... that." I said thinking of a word to explain whatever it was that she was doing.

"Oh. I was just reapplying the Fog around the school. For some reason it became weakened. That's my Gift. Fog control. It isn't 'cool' but it is important," she said proudly.

"I probably didn't hear you because I was channeling all my energy into applying it. It takes an immense amount of concentration," she added.

"Oh um cool. Well Aspen and I just wanted to ask you a couple of questions about something strange that is happening to us. That's been happening to us," Hunter said.

"Okay what is it?" Hunter and I explained how since the beginning of the year, we've been able to communicate through our minds. When she finished, she looked hesitant, like she wanted to say something but wasn't sure if she should.

"What you two have is very rare. And by very rare, I mean extremely rare. A connection that can never be broken. It is called a Shared Gift. And yours is telepathy. It is when one of two Celestials has immense power and some of that power has to be transmitted to the first Celestial he or she meets. Until all the power is transferred, the Celestial's Gift would not develop." They looked at me. My eyes widened. How could I be powerful? So powerful that I had to give away that power... to the first Celestial I meet. It all fits like a puzzle. Hunter was the first Celestial I met. My Gift did not develop until a month later. They were still waiting for me to say something. Hunter looked pretty shocked too. I began twirling a lock of my dark brown hair in nervousness.

"But- why? Why me?" I managed to say.

"I guess it's your fate. And another thing is you cannot tell anyone about this. Not even your closest friends. Someone with that much power can be feared," Professor Nunes said.

"But I don't get it- I don't feel powerful."

"When you practice, your power will only grow. There is beauty in it. But also great danger. You must learn to control it. Now I must go. I have a staff meeting to attend. Just know if you have any more questions or problems you can always come to me," she said more to me than to Hunter.

Oh I know we will.
