I'm immune. I sat in shock staring at everyone surrounding me.
"So because they used my blood to make the serum work it made me immune?" I asked. Mrs. Elmer nodded.
"But that's good Aspen. That means you're still a Celestial after all." Mrs. Elmer said.
"Yeah. But it also means we know the serum works." Professor Nunes and Professor Milora nodded in agreement.
"So Aspen. It's your call. How are we going to defeat your uncle?" Mr. Elmer said. I smiled.
We all went to the cafeteria and sat at the staff table that was big enough for all of the professors including Lynn, Hunter, and Will who were the only students involved. Will was the one who distracted the teachers so that Hunter could come help me. He had to escape because the teachers didn't believe him so they wouldn't help him and Hunter had to go on his own. The only person who believed him was Will of course.
Lynn looked troubled when throughout the meeting and after. It concerned me because it reminded me of Emma before I found out she betrayed me.
"Lynn!" I called, after we left the cafeteria.
"Oh hey Aspen."
"Are you okay? You're not acting like yourself."
"How would you know?!" Lynn exclaimed and then stormed off. Her outburst caught me off guard and I lingered in the same spot a while longer before heading to my room. I opened the door and found my bed the same as I left it and Emma's bed neatly made and all her possessions gone. I laid down in my bed smelling the sweet smell of the linen sheets and thinking about the plan we formulated in the cafeteria. It was dangerous, but it could work. Then I thought about Lynn. I still have a weird feeling about the way she acted. I thought about it more as I dozed off.
I woke up to Hunter shaking my shoulders similar to the way he woke me up on the plane to Hippoplum when we first became friends. I smiled at the thought. But he wasn't smiling.
"Great. What now?" I sighed drowsily.
"Lynn's gone."
"WHAT!" I exclaimed now fully alert.
"She's gone," Hunter said again slower.
"No I heard you but what do you mean she's gone?"
"What I mean is I went to her room to wake her up while Will was going to come wake you up, and then no one was answering her door. Then I went to Professor Nunes because she has the special key that will open any door. She opened Lynn's door and BOOM! She was gone. Her stuff and everything! Her roommate thought she went early to breakfast not noticing her missing stuff," Hunter said.
"Professor Milora and Mr. Elmer are checking out her room right now to see if she left any clues on where she went," he continued.
"Well then, let's go!" I exclaimed. We ran about halfway to the elevator before running into someone. Garfield. Through all that's been going on, I almost forgot about her. But it seems that life decided to give me a nasty reminder.
"Oh I was just on my way to see you," she said with an amused look. I looked down at myself and realized that I was still in my pajamas. A Hello Kitty tank top and shorts. I mentally slapped my forehead.
"So why were you coming to see me?" I asked attempting to keep the topic off my pajamas.
"To see if the the rumors that you're back are true," she said. Typical Garfield always looking for new gossip.
"Uh well now that you've seen me you know that they are, but we have to go," I said. I started running back to my room and Hunter was running in the opposite direction when he looked back.
"Where are you going? he yelled.
"To change!" I yelled back gesturing to my outfit. He laughed. I quickly changed and ran back to where he was standing... talking to what seemed to be a spider. His back was facing me so I used my Gift to float the spider on to my hand so he would know I was there.
"Let's get a move on Spiderman," I said.
"I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE SPIDERMAN!" he screamed, causing students on their way to class to turn their heads in our direction. I waved them off. We took the elevator to Lynn's floor where Will was waiting outside of her room.
"There you his are. Where were you?" Will asked.
"Never mind that," Mr. Elmer cut in, "The real question is, where's Lynn?" We all nodded in agreement. I entered Lynn's room and it was just like Hunter described. All of her stuff was gone, including her. On the other bed sat her roommate, a girl named Riley whose hair was electric blue and stops just beneath her chin. She was crying.
"Lynn is my best friend," she sobbed.
"So you're positive you know nothing of Ms. Jones' whereabouts," Professor Milora said.
"I told you," she sniffed, "When I fell asleep she was there and when I woke up I thought she went to breakfast early which was unlike her but she was gone."
"Do you think she ran away?" Professor Nunes asked Milora.
"Maybe this will answer your question," said Will wide-eyed.
"Where was that?" I asked.
"It was taped to the bathroom mirror." We stared.
"What?" he shrugged. "When a guy needs to pee, he pees."
"Okay well what does it say?"
"It says: Hello. If you are reading this I am long gone. Not dead, but gone. My father visited me yesterday and made me a deal. He told me he would take care of me and love me if I came and lived with him and Dr. Anderson in the lab. I'm going to take the serum. Me being a Celestial is getting in the way of me and my father's relationship and I never realized it until now. Don't continue with the plan. Maybe it's better if we have the serum. Don't come save me. I don't need saving. I need my father. I hope you're not mad.
~Lynn Jones"Nobody said a word. I can't believe it. After all we went through together, she went running back to her father and his inhuman ways. But there is no way I am allowing Lynn to stay there. We're going to go show her who her real family is.
A/N: I won't be updating this week at all or be on wattpad because I will be on a trip so I will be too busy to write or go on anything. Hope you like this chapter!
