A/N: So what did you think of the plot twist in chapters 12 and 13?
I ran back through the same corridors leading back where I came to. I could hear Dr. Anderson talking to Dr. Jones in rushed sentences. I peeked through the doorway and saw them.
"Aspen isn't here Jones! So unless you get her back, we're going to have to use Lynn," Dr. Anderson said. I still don't know what it is they're trying to do. But I do know that their plan involves me in it. Lynn looked scared and uncomfortable. She was in the same bed as me tied up. I repeated what I did earlier with the knife and used my Gift to cut her free. At first when she saw me, she was about to shout my name, but then I shot her a death glare as if saying shut up if you want to live. But that's the thing. I don't think they're going to kill us. I think they're going to use us for something far worse than death if possible.
Once the knife cut through the last piece of rope around her feet, Lynn leaped out of the bed which of course made a sound. I mentally slapped my forehead as Dr. Anderson and Dr. Jones' heads whipped towards her. They spotted both of us and my heart skipped a beat. I was fast and about to run but Dr. Anderson was faster. He gripped my arm firmly so that I couldn't escape. They retied us up even more complicated than before. And this time Dr. Anderson had Dr. Jones watch us like a hawk so we couldn't try anything funny.
"So this is your dad huh?" I asked Lynn casting Dr. Jones a disgusted look.
"Unfortunately, yes," she said also glaring at the man with balding patches of red hair on his head. He stared emotionless at Lynn.
"Okay Grace here's the deal. I never wanted a child. But then my wife convinced me that it would be amazing and would make us both happy," Dr. Jones said
"So I agreed. But then that thing was born and I was ashamed that it was related to me," he spat. Lynn cringed at every word he said and each time she looked even more afflicted.
"That's why when I heard about Dr. Anderson's plan to make a concoction that would take away everything that makes a person an Anomaly, I immediately joined him so I could assist him to make the process as fast as possible. And now it's complete and all we need is your blood to get it to work."
"B-but why my blood?" I stammered.
"Because apparently the more powerful the Anomaly is, the better the serum will work." Lynn and I looked at each other wide-eyed in realization. They were going to take away everything that makes us special. Our eyes, our blood, and most importantly, our Gift. We couldn't let them carry out with their cruel diabolical plan.
Lynn flashed me a mischievous grin and Dr. Jones squinted his eyes at her in suspicion. Then she disappeared. Literally out of thin air. Then I recalled when she got a detention from Professor Nunes for sneaking into the kitchen at night. Invisible. I let out a laugh at Dr. Jones' panicked expression.
"Where did she go?" he snarled. I shook my head with the ghost of a smile on my face. The ropes Lynn was tied up in dropped out of nowhere in a pile on on the tiled floor. My ear tickled and I heard Lynn's voice whisper in my ear, "I'll come back for you Aspen. I promise." Then a gust of air rushed by me and the door slammed shut.
