A/N: just a heads up that this is probably a short chapter like usual because I've been super busy

I followed Professor Nunes to the infirmary where the realization of all that has happened really began to set in. I began to breathe in and out at a panicked pace. If we don't find some sort of cure, I could lose everything. Milora cast me a worried glance. My lower lip quivered as usual before I begin crying. Then all hell broke loose.

I collapsed to the floor. And everything that happened since that day we went to the mall flooded my thoughts. Everything has been chaos since I've come to Hippoplum. But it has also been spectacular and I've never been happier in my entire thirteen years. I saw something in her face change unlike anytime I've ever seen her. Usually with a stern expression, now she had a look that told me that she actually cared what I was feeling right now. That she wasn't just going to tell me get up and stop acting childish. Instead she knelt down on the floor and wrapped her arms around me and comforted me. We sat like this in silence for about a minute until she spoke.

"Aspen. Look into my eyes. It's all going to be just fine," she said. Suddenly that's how I felt. Like everything would be okay. Even though I knew it wasn't.

"Now stop crying and follow me," Milora continued. As if my body was moving on its own I stopped crying and began walking next to Milora. Maybe I was being controlled. I gasped.

"Professor. Is your Gift..."

"Mind manipulation. Indeed it is."

"Oh okay. Not exactly what I was going to say but okay. So that's what your Gift is. Everyone's been saying the strangest rumors about it. I heard someone say that they think your Gift is probably immortality and that's why you've been the headmaster of Hippoplum for a long time."

"What? That's insane! I've only been the headmaster for the thirty years!" Milora exclaimed. We entered the infirmary to Mrs. Elmer who was sitting on one of the beds dabbing at her eyes with a tissue. She saw me and then shrieked.

"Oh- oh my goodness! Aspen you're alright! Thank heavens. Oh dear. We were all worried sick!" She exclaimed engulfing me in a hug. I mumbled a thanks in her shirt but she didn't hear.

Professor Milora pulled her aside and filled her in on what I told her. She then burst into tears again and apologized to the irritated headmaster. She set me down on one of the hospital beds and started off by giving me a standard checkup. After that Mrs. Elmer asked me questions about the serum. What it was supposed to do. How it looked like. How long it's been since it's entered my system.

"Well. Considering what I've heard the effects should've taken place by now," Mrs. Elmer frowned.

"But. Then why didn't they? I mean I don't want them to but why?" I asked.

"I don't know," she said deep in thought.

"Maybe I should sleep and see how I feel when I wake up," I shrugged.

"It's our only option. But Aspen know this. If you wake up and the serum really did what it's supposed to do, we don't have a cure," Mrs. Elmer said. I nodded solemnly.

"Good luck Ms. Grace," Professor Milora said as she exited the infirmary.

"I'll be here if you need me Aspen," Mrs. Elmer said as my eyes shut.

                                                                                          ***

My eyes slowly opened, still heavy with drowsiness. Mrs. Elmer, Mr. Elmer, Professor Nunes, and Milora were crowded around me. I quickly wiped the drool from my mouth and sat straight up.

"Aspen. You're still a Celestial. The serum didn't work," Professor Milora said. I sighed in relief and smiled but their faces remained grim.

"What? That's good isn't it?" I asked.

"Sweetie. We think there's something you left out of your story," said Mrs. Elmer. "I inspected a blood sample while you were asleep. Was it your blood they used to activate the serum?"

"Yeah." They all looked at me. I think I'm missing something here.

"Aspen. Don't you get it? You're immune to the serum."

I'm immune.
